Are there enough Wii titles to support Wii? |
Ó
It's the big question that some game industry analysts are asking, and some were quick to answer. Despite the really big popularity surrounding the Nintendo Wii, many critics are still whispering left and right. Some people attribute the phenomenal success of the Wii due to it's health benefits, while others claim it's family-friendly and fun.But there have been a few negatives mentioned, especially about the Wii being "an impulse buy" or that it's just a passing phenomenon and people will get tired of it later. The really big issue that the critics are leaning on is: "are there enough games to keep the Wii up there?"
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, in an interview last October with N'Gai Croal of Newsweek, said that there will be no game drought. And as Games Radar has pointed out in their chart, Nintendo seems to be doing well for now.
But the more anticipated games, Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy, are unlikely to come out this year, despite claims that the titles "will give [Nintendo] fantastic momentum" for their launch. So what's left for the Wii fans once they've grown tired of the games they have now? Wait, will they ever grow tired of them in the first place?
We guess those who are worried can only hope that the third-party titles out there can keep the Wii show on the road.

Have we forgot that new developers still confirm projects for the Wii. Since launch, new IPs, new developper, new publishers are proud to annouce new games at least once a week. I guess that cheap and easy development, Nintendo support either with the customer and their affiliates, and desire to explore new and interesting ways are just some of the many points that makes the Wii a success. All console starts slow with games, but still have some key projects to come out in the first year, even from 3rd party devlopers. Day of Crisis, Sadness, Manhunt 2, SSX Blur, DDR... their is something for everyone. So will the Wii lack titles. I don't thinkso.
I think I wrote something like this and was berated by a few other gamers. Since the wii launch, not much has come out to tide over gamers. I think Nintendo needs to create an online game community, something to get people constantly using their wii... It's possible for them to get non-online gamers to become online gamers, Nintendo has a really great opportunity to find new fans. The problem is... it doesn't play DVD's, doesn't have HD, doesn't have enough VC games, no online vc games, no online gameplay and hasn't had any really good games since launch(besides Warioware). Nintendo needs to do something! They have this great opportunity and they should do things as fast as they can...soon the alure of the PS3's graphics, backwards compatability, huge harddrive, HD graphics, DVD/Blu-ray player, and HDMI outlet will start to attract gamers. Yeah I know you are rolling your eyes as I list "pro's" of the PS3...but the truth is that the PS3 is before it's time and costs too much money. In a few years the PS3 will probably be back on top with the Wii and MS fighting for 2nd. This will only happen if Nintendo doesn't take advantage of their new situation. I hope they do! Nintendo deserves to be on top. I was shocked they gave away the wii channels for free, what a great idea! Perhaps this is why Epic released free maps? Could Nintendo start a trend of businesses actually rewarding their customers?!
I think to a point the Wii is an impulse buy, I know it will be for me. The only thing really stopping me from getting one (other then the availability) is that i'm not seeing more then one or 2 triple A titles on the horizon (i'm thinking smash bros and mario party) and only 1 or 2 titles worth buying right now. Honestly i'm more interested in the VC titles right now, but they are still not enough to sell me. I will be waiting until some more games come out, or my GF to buy it before me....
I'm not sticking up for nintendo but seriously the system has just come out and alot of people have yet to purchase one. You still cant find one hardly anywhere. What if you got the Wii today instead of launch. Would you really say that there is no good games already? THink about the person that just got home and opened the package and started playing Zelda. They have over 70 hours of gameplay to conquer which is done over many days usually (unless you're "hardcore"). Nintendo is giving third party developers a huge chance to sell games. If metroid and mario came out then no one would be buying third party offering. I can agree that thus far third parties need to step it up a little but its nice to see that nintendo is giving them a chance. All this not enough games crap is people just wanting a particular game right now. Personally I don't mind the wait. I beat zelda and finally beat dragon ball z. It took forever to beat all the characters and story line. I also have almost completed Excite Truck and finished Call of Duty 3. I have had the console since launch and I have played almost every day. I made a pro status or two for wii sports. Now if it took me that long to go through just a couple games, with a lot more coming down the line, I think they are doing just fine. This isn't even the VC games I have plaed and not finished. The point is there is plenty of stuff to do with the console and I just don't see how there is a drought. Most people are just getting the system. If you are that bored go nab a few CHEAP gamecube games you never got to play and give them a whirl. If you never played F-Zero GX, now would be the time because it really is that awsome of a game. I just don't see how you could be bored already. There are some wii games I have not even tried. If you seriously ran out of games to play by now you need to stop playing video games and go outside. Maybe go hunt for some booty or something. I also wanted to comment on the oh so lovely remarks people make about how the extra features are pointless. I don't really think they are. I actually like the news channel b/c it is better then sitting through commercials and crap and there are a lot of reports that come in on that channel. It is actually nice to flip through the news. Its like a free paper. I mean weather/votes and the rest are not used as much but they are a nice touch to have in the least. I wouldn't consider myself a casual gamer at all. I've been a video game fan since the early 80's. So I think so far their offering are pretty good and I am content. The only thing that is gonna screw them is friend codes. A single console code was fine but now individual codes per game. That sucks my ass. That is seriously a *****ed up policy to reduce the amount of traffic over the internet. Its free but someones gotta pay the bill. At least thats my opinion on friend codes. A couple of swear words is not a good enough excuse IMO to keep friend codes. Or at least just keep one console code. It would make things so much easier. Thats all I got to say on these subjects.
With Nintendo making money off of every console and handheld made since each of their launches they dont need to make alot of games to make back any money, they make it on both ends so they arnt to worried about title quantity just like the gamecube and ds... well good games for the ds at least.
as long as Super Smash Bros. Brawl comes out this year, I'm a happy camper. for that matter, I'm happy now with madden and zelda and wii sports....and i want to get sonic and mario party....geez, seems like theres plenty of games to me...
I want one so badly, I'd could "borrow" it from someone. ^_^
The Wii is different from the Gamecube mainly because of the new controller, so of course we would have to wait a little longer for games to start pouring in. But still, there are some good games already out and about to be released, so I don't understand this "drought" everyone talks about. Unless your that gamer who plays games 24/7, you should still be able to find a game on the Wii you might wanna play. If you TRULY cant find any Wii games or VC games u want, you could always buy some gamecube game (it might be "dead" now, but there are still some great games). I think the PS3 is having a worser "drought" than the Wii, if you can even call it that. Im not trying to flame the PS3; instead Im just trying to emphasize my point that the Wii, to me, has a good library of games in it already, ranging from the NES to the Gamecube/Wii. Im still getting a PS3 for those games that are gonna come out though, although I might wait for a better model since the first model seems to have problems with heat...
I meant to say that developers now must also think about how the controller would be used in the Wii because of that transition from gamecube control to Wii-mote control. The PS3 developers already have experience with it's controller layout from the PS2/PS1 controller because of its similarities. Thats all I wanted to say on that first sentence.
Uhhh.... Ohhh YEAH!!!!.... YES YES YES YES... Enought SAID... this game is going to be Weirdly AWSOME. I cant Wait.
This game is awesome weather you're playing the adventure mode or party mode, the game is fantastic.
All nintendo have to do is churn out a few brain training style games every once in a while, and their sorted for another 6 months.
I got a wii on launch day and still haven't gotten tired of wii sports. I've also been playing a bunch of Madden '07 and Rayman. I also have Trauma Center, Call of Duty, Elebits, and Zelda, but haven't had time to get into them. It would have taken a little over 20 hours a week playing Wii for me to finish those 6 games. In which case, assuming I didn't have anything else to do, I would buy Excite Truck, some VC games and maybe Wario, Sonic, or Monkey Ball. Sure, Wii doesn't have as many games as PS3 that rock like ...uhm, oh yeah they only have like 4 good games. What do you expect though? Consoles take a year to start generating great games, especialy from 3rd party vendors. Anyway, Wii is selling like hotcakes, and developers NOTICE. Once they've actually had time to make good games, you will see them and they will be much better than anything a 3rd party could come up with for launch.
The only thing that im mad about with the wii is that SSBB and Mario party 8 are delaid. If i could get either of those games i would be happy for a few mouths i want SSBB more but that one is farth away. I remember at Chrismas i was saying the good games for wii dont come out till March but now its the good games don't have a chance till June.
If you want DVD, HD-DVD, or BluRay, buy a player or an over priced media centered that is marketed as a game console. If you want to play video games, buy a video game console. I don't even have to explain that video games haven't always been bloated with unnecessary features. As far as new games, it's only been a few months. Developing a game while keeping in mind the unique controller would be disastrous. I'm willing to wait for the developers to sort out how to adapt and innovate rather than pump out garbage adapted for use with the Wii remote (see Mortal Kombat for the Wii)
SSBB has been slated for a Q04 2007 release for as long as I can remember... I never heard of the possibility of a march release.
