Germany's flag - Image 1Even with all those April 2007 NPD charts around, PlayStation 3 fans shouldn't lose hope. Sony's next-gen console is still fighting, in Germany at least.

Here's the console sales for Germany, month of April:
  • Wii: 20,000
  • PS3: 16,000
  • 360: 9,500
That's a lot different from the units sold at launch, which Xbox 360 dominated. Here are the numbers:
  • Xbox 360: 262,000
  • Wii: 222,000
  • PS3: 70,500
The question still remains: Will games make it to Germany? With the government aggressively banning violent video games (or at least removing certain parts), we can only hope for our German gaming comrades to receive titles such as MGS 4 and DMC 4.

» PS3 games are region free

If their gov bans some games they can at least import, assuming they understand the language.

by whoelse - 2007-05-19 21:26
» Well

Well if they would choose to buy those games in germany but cant, then buy them somewhere else, then i assume they do understand the language. It would be no different from buying a game in Germany. Except if the game's default language is different to what it would be.

Anyway, germans have good english language skills usually.

» good news!!!

taking baby steps... get it on gear Sony!!!! so that we can start with the really good stuff!!!

I personally doubt those numbers.

Never trust statistics you didn't manipulate yourself. My math teacher told me that in 11th grade.

But yes it doesn't matter if "our" government prohibits good games because those games usually belong to an adult audience which is free to choose to import games from other countries.

I wouldn't want a 13 yearold to play Gears of War or such.

» I'm German , living in GErmany

I have to say and clarify here that metal gear oder devil may cry will never get banned in Germany, they are not considered as violent games, Games being banned are titles like Quake, Manhunt maybe that are really violent. It's really a few and only really violent games that get banned and anyways you can get them from Swiss with German language.

I was wondering what the Germans had against Sony, I forgot Europe has not had the ps3 long.

by Shatterdome - 2007-05-20 07:13
» haha...

Yeah PS3 will win the next gen war with German and Japan alone....haha right....

It HAS to start selling more then 360 in NA and ALL of europe...those are the places that matter...

It's amazing what crap QJ will post....oh yeah it's a "slow" weekend....ie, all the real gaming sites aren't posting news for QJ to steal...

» re

yes, german can easy get the games from other countries because 8 countries are next to it.

by flopo - 2007-05-20 08:51
» re

the problem is: germany, as one of the more important european countries, sets the level. therefore -in most cases- there is no 'special german' edition of a game, but a european edition that fits into german laws. and as long it's not possible to legaly play imported games, that's not an option.

» woop

Woo thank god I live in Britain where we are an island and don't follow any European rules ever! Sure we may be in Europe but do we ever listen to them? NO! lol. They can shove their righthand driving, metric system, euro coin and any other rules up their ass!

» dumb ass

you think NA and Europe is all that matters, u are a dumb ass do you know that Japan is the most important factor, check your facts right *****

» Noin you can only dream

LOL is it? why have you forgot the other headline in the USA etc the most the PS3 sold was 80,000 compared to 360 180,000 and Wii 200,000 +, Germany is low seller for consoles even in Australia the PS3 is dropping out..

But at least Qj have also added

- is still fighting, in Germany at least.-

so I suppose that equals up the misleading headline where in Germany is only put in brackets.

by dave - 2007-05-20 20:27
» Looks like you are the dumb ass

The USA is far the most important market, its there where consoles make or break go look at the software sales and compare the SMALL amount of software sold for the same game in Japan.

And lets look at weekly software sales -

Xbox 360 USA software sales - 452,230

PS3 USA software sales - 142,913

Japan weekly software sales

Xbox 360 - 6,864

PS3 - 6,523

PS3 is selling less software in Japan than the 360 and is getting thrashed in the USA.

Then why did your goverment became a european union member in the first place?

They certainly did not ask for your opinion!!!

If they dint get something out of it Britain would be on it own right now...You British are so opportunistic...

by Viktor - 2007-05-20 22:06
» Facts

Those statistics displayed are ridiculous. Everybody knows that PS3 sells better than 360 in Japan. Fact is, both Europe, USA and Japan are important markets, period.

by Max - 2007-05-21 03:37
» Why?

Seems a little harsh, why are we opportunistic. We pay a hell of a lot for Europe and give more money than we take. Hardly seems like we are only in it for ourselves.

Back on topic seems very promising for the PS3, it is clearly making progress especially in Europe. And with such a good line up of games coming end of 2007 and 2008. Things are looking up.

One step forward, three steps behind. North American PS3 sales down 82% for the quarter.
