We've certainly had a nice chunk of good stuff coming from Nintendo's WiiWare service, giving us some gems like Bomberman and Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King. But here's another one coming up: High Voltage Software's Animales de la Muerte, and unlike the other two mentioned, this one's all about blood and gore. And cute kids and animals.
As violence-savvy kids Marco and Maria Mendoza, it's the player's job to mow down the zombified zoo animals that somehow emerged from their beloved granpappy Don Eduardo's zoo.
Several meat-and-bone processing weapons comprise their arsenal, which includes machine guns, swords, flamethrowers, and a cute pink chainsaw decorated with pink heart-shaped stickers, among others.
Don't expect the game to euphemize the violence here: there's so much blood and gore splashing about in the midst of all the cuteness, you'd be wondering if you're playing a crossover game between Dora the Explorer and Manhunt 2.
But Animales de la Muerte isn't all about decapitation or mutilation; the kids need to save the untainted zoo animals - those that aren't turned into zombies yet - by using their nets.
But those not really interested in trivial stuff like saving animals and being kind to the poor creatures can just rev up their chainsaws and hack at them; this nice chunky action is also available in glorious four-player co-op mode.
But carnage aside, the game looks and feels like a solid Wiiware title, an easily accessible diversion that instantly offers cathartic satisfaction. We'd be interested as to how Jack Thompson and company would react to this game if they manage to get a whiff about it, though.
For now, just check out Animales de la Muerte's game screenshots and artwork. Pretty interesting, don't you think?
