In the past few months, we've heard several groups from the video game industry give their opinions on the console war. Some of the more outspoken ones, including Electronic Arts and the President of Ready at Dawn studios, have expressed favor towards the PlayStation 3.Analysts from Lazard Capital Markets and DFC Intelligence had the same sentiments, saying that the PlayStation 3 will soon be on top in the near future.
Now, analysts from the UK, Europe, and North America chime in with their own opinions, which they expressed at the Nordic Game 2008 conference. However, instead of focusing just on how big the PlayStation 3 will be in the future, they were more opinionated on the fate of the Xbox 360 and the Wii.
The analysts from the conference expressed how the Xbox 360 will be in trouble in the coming year. DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole went as far as to say that "The Xbox 360's going to come in third place when all's said and done." Other analysts went on to say that the Xbox 360 is strong in the US, but is declining everywhere else.
On the subject of the Wii, Swedish analyst Martin Lindell remarks that the console is in trouble if it doesn't produce a steady stream of games that please its consumers. Because its install base is composed mostly of casual gamers, people might tend to shelf the console if the "fad" feeling dies down. One analyst expressed it this way:
You've got to remember there's a difference between buying and playing - the fact that you get your grandma to play the game doesn't mean she's going out to buy it. I'm still in that kind of faddish feeling about the Wii.
They also talked about the PlayStation 3 of course. They noted how the console is steadily gaining on the Xbox 360, and how a loyal fanbase is another factor to its success. Nick Parker, analyst for Screen Digest, remarks that many PlayStation gamers of previous generations hold off from buying a next-gen console because they are waiting for the release of anticipated titles on the PlayStation 3.
Strong opinions, yes? Still, nothing is set in stone, and we haven't heard the fat lady sing yet. We'll keep you updated on developments in the console war, but for now you can read up on what else the analysts have to say by following the link below.

The Wii is not a fad. Fads don't last nearing upon 2 years.
It's got plenty of people, from both casual and serious gamers behind it for varying reasons. Even if one market for it collapses, it's got more than enough to support itself for the gen as a viable console.
The PS3 thing, well, I'm not going to comment on it. I don't like the PS3 personally, so anything I said would have some bias and end up sounding antifanboyish like "Well they'd need to be loyal to buy it, it sucks" sort of thing. Though slightly more well written, and a lot less insulting. So I'll just steer clear of commenting on the PS3 bit

I think people are so caught up in this console war, that some are still prone to flights of fantasy.
the reality is, the wii is selling like hot cakes still till this day. the 360. has a lot of great games to keep it afloat.
and the ps3 while powerful and very neat. just doesnt have the game line up to apeal to.. well anyone.. :(
I say that as a ps3 owner. ive had my ps3 for about four months now. I have oblivion. heavenly sword and the simpsons game.
im not saying other people arent happy with their ps3s, hell I like my ps3 just fine. but im not so blind that im clinging on to hopes that something will come out for the ps3 that will just change the rules of this console war mid game.
im not saying this to diss the ps3. I like my ps3 and I dont care who doesnt like them, and I dont care of the ps3 is on top or not.
I'm just not dumb enough to claim the ps3 is on top just because I have one.

The 360 had a good (head) start but this year, they really need some help. They just don't have as many big AAA titles like they should and usually do.
The PS3 is actually making a huge comeback (they even surpassed the 360 in total sales in Europe). If anyone looks at all the upcoming titles and features later this year, you already know Sony isn't fooling around this year.
The only reason why Nintendo could actually make another console was because of it's portable systems. Do you really think the Gamecube was that successful? It was a distant third behind the PS2, and kinda distant from the Xbox. Both of those killed the GC, the only real money they had was from the GBA, the GBA SP, the Game Boy Micro, and the Nintendo DS. If it weren't for those, there probably wouldn't even be a Wii.
I'd love to hear what you had to say about the PS3 though. Just because Analysts say what you didn't want to hear doesn't mean THEY are idiots.
And don't call me a fanboy, because I'm not. I own more than just Sony systems and even if I only had Sony systems I still know what I'm talking about. What I just typed was a mixture of personal opinion and fact... And now I'll end my rant.

i won't say you're wrong but you can't say i'm wrong either cause it's your tv, you couch, and your time and i don't have a say on that as well as you don't have a say on mine.
and nobody is claiming the PS3 is on top... what they are saying is that at the end of the day it is the 360 who might end up in last place and i quote "The Xbox 360's going to come in third place when all's said and done."... you might say that they are succombing to "flights of fantasy" well the same could be said of people who would say "the PS3 will squarely be on the bottom".

im a very picky gamer. oblivion would have been the only game I bought if i had waited to get my ps3 untill mes4 or god of war 3 or final fantasy 13 came out.
im just saying, ninja gaiden didnt apeal to me because its the same old ninja gaiden with a face lift, drakes fortune didnt apeal to me I dont know why. something about drakes fortune just didnt apeal to me.
I was looking forward to haze, but we know how that turned out. dont get me wrong guys, in my personal opinion ther ps3 is the best console, it would be a contridiction for me to own one if I didnt think so.

if fable comes out and is as good or better than mass effect then i might just buy a 360 just for those two games that is unless i don't end up getting them for my pc.

The thing that everyone is overlooking is the fact that the PS3 has a very large back catalog of games to remake.
Everyone knows the PS3 isn't easy to make games on (at least games that are good) so there isn't much we can do but wait, however by the end of 2008 we WILL have enough AAA games to hold us off for a while.
SOCOM, which is probably the most popular online PS2 game of all time, will be out for the PS3 around September, and we have MGS4 out in just a few more days.
Don't forget that SoulCalibur 4 is set to release sometime in 2008 as well. If you haven't noticed, those few games I just mentioned are big hits on the PS2. Now they are moving on to the PS3.
So for anyone that doesn't think the PS3 will eventually have good games...all you have to do is look back at any great/popular PS2 game, because everyone has a PS2. Any game that was really good on the PS2 will more than likely get a new addition for the PS3.
When you consider this, and compare it to what the XBOX 360 has, they don't really have a lot of old games they can update for the 360 that were really great. I don't have an XBOX or 360, but all I ever hear about is Gears of War and Halo. I'm sure there are a small bunch of other titles that the 360 has which are great games, but when I compare that to the list of great PS2 games its not even worth talking about. I know the PS3 doesn't have that many yet, but everything is starting to heat up and we are now seeing these great PS2 games come over to the PS3.
Don't forget that the PS3 (and PS2, PS1) have a wide variety of different game types, while most XBOX and 360 users mainly play a handful of shooters (by handful I mean the few ones which are the best).
I won't say everything about what I said towards the XBOX/260 is accurate, because I don't own one and pay as much attention to it, but I feel that my PS3 opinions are pretty well on the dot.

These give those die hards that want the system before its ready a chance to enjoy them while waiting for Japan to get their act together and produce some Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Megaman or Tekken. Face it, beside the price ANY system would be better than Wii. All Wii has is that neat Wiimote/ Nunchuck. At the same time it is also a failure since as a remote control it has a considerable less amount of buttons and as a gamepad it suffers from the same issue. Its like disabling just the R2 button and removing circle from a ps controller. The cut in half design is neat as heck but the fact it is considered two controllers is completely unacceptable. Dualshock3 will retail for $60 while a full Wiimote will have to be sold in two pieces for more than that. Unacceptable my friends. I refuse to take the 360 seriously as they have the worst titles. Tecmo and Capcom are the only reason that system survives. Otherwise they can only rely on the Ignorant Masses that are sold by nothing more than a commercial. Their best titles are all better on PC anyway. Worst thing about 360 is its similarities to a PC. Comparing one to a pc leaves it in a very lame place. Every damn cord on the thing including the generic parts have been modded so to be specific to 360s only. PS3 Will work with almost anything you plug into those sweet USB ports!
Give up the dispute. Go PS3! If you have played any game on either competitors for over 100hrs+ then you got your money's worth. I guess the 360 and Wii arent completely wasted but.

Most of the Wiimotes buttons arent used to play games, it does have a motion sensor and IR pointer you know?

You dont have to buy the Nunchuck as most games make use of the Wiimote.

I did own two 360's the first one red ringed after four months. then I took that one back. and shelled out extra money for an elite unit, which red ringed shortly after I bought it.. maybe it was faulty wireing in my home. maybe it was something that was my fault, but none of my other consoles ever fried like that,, :(
I loved the 360. the way the console preformed. the games it had.
And i know I could have just sent them into microsoft to get them fixed. it's nice that microsoft fixes them for free.
but look it at from another angle. if you go to a burger joint. and they serve you a burger that has clearly been droped in the floor with dirt all over it. do you send it back. or leave the burger joint :(

How many things have you tried plugging into your ps3 usb ports? I have gotten 3 different usb hubs to work 2 different mouses 4 different ps controller converters and many different keyboards to work as well. None of which were specificly designed for PS3. so wtf do you mean they dont? that just shows your ignorance far outweighs your own information so. yh.. whaever .

I only refer to myself as a fan because im so happy with what ive got. Sony's consoles are the evolution of the best original consoles if you ask me. (snes and nes.) its a shame a lot of the developers i like continue to spread my faveourite franchises onto different consoles but that doesnt mean i hate them. thanks for spending so much time on your reply though.

While it is true I do not see the 360 coming in first and the PS3 will take the lead againist the 360, I see the same results as the last gen console, Nintendo in third, Sony First and Microsoft in second, the PS3 has the hardware to ensure it's longevity as a console for many more years to come, the 360 how ever will soon be releasing every major title on multiple disc or risk keeping content out to ship on one, the wii is not only a fad but an over clocked gamecube with motion sensing remotes, it has no major titles other than the first party titles only die hard nintendo fans seek.

The Wii is outselling the ps2 at the same point in it's lifetime. Onto the games issue; the Wii just like the DS had mostly crap games at the start, but I definitely see that changing.
I can't really comment much on 360 yet. I have to wait until E3, but to hold off your statement where you said the ps3 outsold the 360 in total sales isn't true, as a matter of fact since the price drop in EU 360 sales doubled.
Back to the analysts for a second didn't Micheal Patcher(the so called best analyst) Say that ps3 sales for April would be roughly 100,000 higher than 360 and that the ps3 version of GTA would outsell the 360 one. Since it's a 'Playstation' game lol.
Analysts say stupid things all the time. The Wii isn't a fad and the 360 isn't in trouble yet. I like my ps3, but it's games that'll be released this year are good, but I can't say it will be it's year at all.
The 360 still could win this year in games, it's still too early to call software titles this year. Also, I see the 360 is in a good position it has a record high attach rate and it sales are sturdy. The Wii is winning is console sales and the ps3 is in between.

The only reason you would by another Nunchuck is if your original broke. Most game that have multiplayer use the Wiimote without the nunchuck!

We just can't say which game will have the best lineup this year(wait until E3) or the next. Every Sony fanboy said 2007 will be the ps3 year it'll kill the Wii and 360, but it didn't. I probably expect the ps3 to outsell the 360 at some point, but it will never touch the Wii.
I like all the consoles and own them all, but claiming one console will be in trouble,etc. Is just too funny. We don't even know what games Nintendo will release in the Fall, or even know what's MS game plan either. New IPs, price drops? New controller? etc.
I can't make any early predictions, but I do know the Wii will the console war and the 360 will win in software sales.

The truth is his genre of games, the only console that have that diversity and with better quality is called PS3. He love his ps3 yes, but he is not a blind fanboy either. Bioshock will come to the ps3 and I can swear he will not buy it in the ps3 and me neither.

problem is the 360 is only great in USA, but in Japan Europe and every other large gaming market the xbox360 is being outsold by the PSP Wii PS3 PS2.
so if these analysts are only talking about the US market then by all means the 360 is the greatest, but i think they are just stating the facts they have gathered for the Worldwide market.
The Wii will always have a very large support from japanese gamers even if it is just for kids.
i still remember the gamecube is not that far away from ps2 here in japan.

As for those of you who still go on about 'casual' and 'hardcore'... STOP. Games are not casual or hardcore. GAMERS define that depending on how much they play their games. So, for all of you that still go on about the Wii being rubbish because it's less powerful, only suited to casual f***ing games, blah blah blah... get a goddamn grip.
What is it with fanboys? I'm a Wii owner, and a long-time Nintendo fan. My brothers own a 360 and a PS3, of which I can see the merits for (although certainly more for the PS3... MGS4. 'Nuff said). I don't flame other consoles with ridiculous Nintendo fanboy propaganda, nor should anyone else with ANY console. It's not cool, it makes you look like a pillock, and it takes away from the purpose of the comments box... to discuss the article (I know I'm guilty of digressing). I can't remember ever reading a comments list without someone starting an argument over something as trivial as the fact that they don't like the Wii, so Nintendo fans are gay, or the Wii is a ripoff, or the 360 is 'too similar' to a PC (WTF?), or the PS3 only has crap games...

sony will always be the big kid on the block. just accept it. we need good competition to make us better. otherwise the product gets stale. wrestling fans know what i'm talking about.
the wii is a fad that made alot of money. you cannot change the sport you're playing but with ps3/360 games you change missions, characters, etc. so your interest is still there. i don't like the 360 but the sales numbers don't lie. playstation might struggle at times but will come out on top.

I think the PS3 will easily catch up and even surpass the 360. I will admit, however, that the 360 has a big enough install base at this point that it will never be considered a "flop" or the "loser" (like the last generation).
As far as the Wii goes, I still think that the PS3 has the ability of catching up. I am not completely putting my money on because of the huge install base that it has already built. I will say that if you are still playing the Nintendo Wii in 2011 (much like I will still be playing PS3), you are a *****ing loser.

I was surprised that the Blu-Ray victory didn't push up PS3 sales at all. Even more shocking was that GTA IV didnt seem to be have the impact in hardware sales that a lot of people (including myself) had predicted. I cant see MGS4 moving much extra hardware if GTAIV couldn't.
You've got to look at the Wii and think how much of it's install base is eatting into that PS2 install base. I know quite a few people that owned a PS2 that now own a Wii. That's definately a big problem for both Sony and MS. No wonder they are both working on Wii like motion controls.
I can't see a flood of people flocking to the PS3 this year without another $100 price cut. When you have 2 very popular and successful products selling for cheaper, it's not going to be easy.
I dont think MS is in trouble. They have a lower priced entry console and have guaranteed that nearly all major third party titles will arrive on their platform. They've only had to price cut $100 vs Sony's $200. If the PS3 does start to push ahead I expect MS will finally get more aggressive with pricing.

As for the 360 being in trouble...well that would probably only be true if they stop signing exclusives (like Sony did with the exception of a few titles - they should have signed GTA IV as exclusive to instantly boost their position in "the war"). Just my two cents worth though

I've been a Sony fan for most of my life, since the PS1 wowed me nearly 15 years ago with Ridge Racer (it was cutting edge back then) and subsequently through the PS2 and then the PS3. Don't get me wrong, XBox and the Xbox 360 are great consoles, but the Xbox came out after the PS2 and I wasn't going to own both (what's the point?) and I decided I wanted a PS3 and not an XBox 360, mainly down to the ridiculous reliability problems I'd heard about with the 360 machine (RROD etc). I mean, my mate has had a 360 for 4 years and has recently received his EIGHTH console. That's simple unacceptable for me and turns me off M$ straight away, surely they'd have fixed such a major issue long ago in the manufacturing process? Apparently not.
So, IMO the PS3 is going to surpass the 360, there is no way the 360 with it's DVD's can compete with the next gen titles the PS3 is going to offer (imagine fitting MGS4 on a DVD? Exactly). The PS3 gets stronger every month with new titles released and will continue to get stronger and continue to snatch sales away from M$. Look at GTA4, which had to be developed for both the 360 and the PS3. This caused major problems for the developers because they were dealing with two totally different platforms and two totally different sets of code. Subsequently this delayed the release fo the game by six months. If GTA4 had been PS3 exclusive then you can bet that a lot of the 'missing' features from San Andreas wouldn't have been missing at all, they were simply removed because of lack of space (on the 360 DVD) and they probably felt that by adding them to the PS3 version only would annoy 360 fans and probably breach some sort of agreement with M$ (possibly regarding DLC). Anyway, long and the short of it is, next gen gaming is going to be increasingly biased toward the PS3, until M$ relase their next console (the 1080 or whatever).
As for the Wii, I'd have to agree it's a little faddish. Sure, it's fun for a couple of hours playing Mario Party or whatever, but compared to the other two it's way behind, the graphics are mediocre at best and the majority of the games seem to be designed specifically for the casual gamer. Fair play to Nintendo for the way they marketed the Wii, and the fact they don't import enough seems to be a way of artificially generating demand, I can see the Wii continue to lead the way as far as casual gaming goes, but as someone above stated, just because your gran play's it doesn't mean she'll buy it, I will NEVER buy a Wii because they are the equivalent to me of air hockey. Fun for a quick bash but devoid of any long term appeal.

1. If you judge your console by how many "pretty buttons" it has, you're some kind of stupid that I've never even seen before.
2. Nintendo doesn't have many 3rd party alliances because they have so many exclusive franchises in the first place, which is why people keep coming back to them for more.
3. Dude, it's Microsoft, of course they're going to make everything they produce work exclusively with their products. Get used to it and try to enjoy the games.
So yeah, get over Sony, stop trying to say they're the end-all-be-all of gaming, because they're not. Nintendo saved gaming in the 80's and Microsoft jumped in so quickly and was still a hit; so I think each company is respectable in their own right.

My thoughts:
The Wii will either keep selling strong or slow down and keep up with the PS3 and 360. It's just to big of a hype....good console in terms of sale and innovation, but not so good in terms of about everything else.
The 360 will stay at the same rate it's been going now.
PS3 will keep rising, and have a boom when MGS4 and KZ2 are released, but nothing to big. Then it will slow down and keep at the same pace it is now.

2. Even if they did take something worth taking from the competitors, consumers would turn around and say "OMG THEY COPIED! UNORIGINAL WTF"
3. That must be why Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii are getting fantastic scores on most all gaming sites/magazines.
4. Why should they? They're already the cheapest console on the market? Most consoles wait a few years to lower prices anyways, so chill out.
5. I just looked through my library of games and I saw Dolby printed on the back of nearly all Wii games I own, and plenty of GCN games as well. DVD players would only drive of that price you're so concerned about. For being the first console of their to support online capabilities, they're actually doing pretty good.
6. Supply and demand. limit the supply to extend the demand. Foundation of the economy, dude. (Of course US economy is down the ***** hole right now, but Nintendo is Japanese anyways, so it really doesn't matter)
7. Like Nintendo can control the effort the 3rd parties put into their games. Nintendo has plenty of 1st and 2nd parties that make fantastic games, so if the 3rd parties want to short change Nintendo, that's their loss.
8. Yeah, and look how the PS3's Sixaxis turned out, clumsy and unresponsive, good luck, Microsoft.

i have ben reading all the posts on here and wanted to touch on some subjects so here i go (take em how you want).
1)if you do your reaserch WELL and indepth you will find that atari was not the first gaming consol out.. it was just the first major and most notible one out.... the original to my knowladge was a nintendo based company created by the japanese.
2)in my opinion the wii has more loyal and die hard fans then any system for the fact they have ben around longer and developed more games (some VERY big).
3)allthough the 360 may have more "better" games do to bieng out a year earlier it also has alot of failed bombed games as well.
4)to me sony has more backups to keep it going for years to come as the 360 has very little and has to keep thinking of new ones (witch is not allways a good idea,but can be great at the same time).
5)sony also has a better character lineup as well then the 360 and wii-just becouse nintendo has ben out forever doesnt mean it has allwas done good...
6)if your open minded to gaming as i am then youll find that ps3 has quit a few awsome games to keep you goin and havn fun... but if your only sticking mainly to a certain genre then its a different story.
7) AND in my personall opinion i would rather have few failed games on the ps3 then a GREAT number of 360 CONSOLES failed on me witch i can just play other games on ps3 to decide from or buy a new one for 65 greens ones at max price rather then paying either another couple hundred dollars to purchase a new 360 or have it fixed for cheap (but you could also spend just as much as a new 360 if yours keeps failing and keep having it fixed)- i had a 360 and liked it for the time i had it but of course it failed on me w/the rrod TWICE might i add.
8)and my lastly opinion is that i truly think the ps3 will reign in the end do to the fact that sony is not only developeing more AAA titles in the future they are also at the same time upgrading hardware and focusing on more then just the games but on the technology and power the sytem produces-sony has more available harware options to creat so much for and keep advancing as the 360 has to make multiple consoles to grade to the other type of gamers on the 360.... notice i havnt mentioned the wii.... thats becouse from the start nintendo seperated themselves from the console war and are a stand alone console that plays its own judgement-the only "war" thats going on would be between the 360 and ps3.... and btw nintendo DOES have a pretty strong relationship with sony and has worked wiht sony PLENTY of times in the past (dont know about now).

PS3 the most powerful you can use the internet on the damn thing!! but...its game selection that is exclusive on the ps3 is very bad there will be a few high notes with MGS4 and... killzone? yeah right w/e but other then that there really isnt any killer app type games for it.. but....MGS4 alone to me as enough of a reason to buy it but thats just for mgs fans
The Wii there isnt many with it either but as more and more people go to friends houses to play SSBB wii sports wii fit wii, wii, wii people are starting to relize that being able to control your character down to the T makes the game so much more fun where as on 360 all controller and the PS3 has the sixaxis which is ok but not many games use it
The last but not least the 360 the Systen much like the Xbox made for shooters it was the first system with triggers that slide back will probably forever remain the shooter system there hasnt been a single million dollar making shooter for any of the 3 systems that was exclusive Halo 3, the upcoming bioshock trilogy, Gears of War, Left 4 dead and numorous others. thats just the begining with other games ninja gaiden 2 and many more no lie the PS3 Wii and 360. ps3 being the best looking with no games in it, wii having the best control, but with out the games it all means ***** theres over 50 really good 360 exclusive games that are being played online as we speak but on the ps3 you have resistence(mayb e), UT3(soon to be Live!!),COD4(mo re people are on 360), and umm hmm i think thats it
not to be an anti-ps3 person cus i sure as hell will buy one at the end of summer after i geta wii in a few weeks because its the ***** but it in the game area has no power where as a console it has the most

90% of american games blow. most have a half-life of one year before being replaced by a sequal. the others are usually themed on lame movies made by lame devs. us games give us mostly fps, racing and sports.
i have plugged in controller adapters and mics and mice and keyboards into the ps3. thats great and also i suppose wii are great too for doing that. wait usb on wii? theres no usb on wii is there?
ps3 runs any usb mouse and keyboard was my point.

PS2 is a pc becasue it has a addon to run like a pc.
xbox is a pc because it carry's the same HD that's on everybody's computer. Just makes it as PC but tighter security so nobody steal games like PC games are now.
xbox360 is a pc but carrys like a laptop HD and it reads KEYBOARDS and REMOVABLE STORAGE but its just like the regular xbox but more powerful and usb ports.
PS3 is a PC and allows you to use OS so it is a pc too but not windows, just linux.
Wii, really who cares? PC possible?
