An arm and a leg: Wal-Mart Wii for US$ 677

Wal-Mart's Wii bundle - Image 1One man's trash is definitely another's treasure. Trash: the fact that consumers won't be getting sufficient supply of the Wii console this coming holidays. Treasure: retailers are taking advantage of the unceasing demand by pricing the Wii gold. Cause hey, we'd kill for a Wii, won't we?

Over at Wal-Mart (which they claim to have "Always low prices. Always."), they have thought up of an ingenious sales plan: requiring consumers to buy seven games along with the console unit itself for the price of US$ 677. The operative term here would be require. It is not an offer, it is not a promo. It is not an option. It is required.

If you still haven't filtered that one out yet, it means it's either you part with your cash for a Wii and seven games (which isn't really all that bad, except that you're compelled to get them all at the same time), or you get nothing at all. Never mind if you want to buy only one particular title, you have to get seven.

Hmmm... maybe then you can get seven copies of the game you like and, you know, hang it as some kind of trophy in your den or something. Or give it away to friends. Oh, but we do warn you, and you better take heed. With Nintendo not seeming to budge on the lack of supply, we expect this mad rush for the Wii to continue on until next year.

We want our Wiis, Ninty!

Golden

Don't be salty because you can't afford to shop at Wal-Mart. Honestly, I'd never thought I'd say that. These types of deals happen all the time. I had to buy a laptop and pay extra for "enhanced security and optimization" features that Best Buy did without my consent to a product they were selling on a Black Friday years ago. You can't go into a store and buy one Orea cookie out of a pack of 24, or can you?

Dude

Dude your Oreo cookie analogy is totally different. When you buy a Wii, you have to buy 7 games that are not packaged inside the Wii game box, while all Oreos are in one package. Screw Wal-Mart, buy somewhere else.

Oh Well

I guess my girl won't be getting one for xmas if I have to buy a bundle!

Billie's folly

@ Billy inside of a package! wow! that like totally makes it different! well, consider this a package deal, just like a car or a bag of oroes or a pound of grapes the store has it listed under a certain "package deal" that you have to buy if you want the system want just one oreo cookie? you have to buy the bag - the store can't and won't sell you just one cookie I agree with your last statement though, don't like it, don't show at Wal-Mart on the plus side, owning six Wii games will put you in the top 1 percentile of Wii game adoption.

It is

Well it is different, I mean even with a pound of grapes you can choose a 1/2 a pound if you want, but Wal-Mart wants to be greedy and "create" a package deal. But it is true, if you want to buy it from Wal-Mart thats what you have to do. Come on now, your 1 % game adoption is a put down hehe

damn

damn thats like freaking too much money more than the ps3 core systems!!!

we used to do this at Sharper Image

2 years ago when the Ipod videos came out, we forced people to buy them in a bundle with Altec Lansing speakers. It sucks, but businesses do it when theyre in demand and when they know they can get the money. That said, no one spends that much at walmart unless its for a new nascar lamp or something

wow stupid!

I thought the days of ripoff console bundles were over until the next generation. The Wii has maybe 2 games even worth buying. You can get a PS3, 4 GOOD games, and have $40 left for the price of this ripoff package. Anyone who buys this needs to be shot.
