Wii Fit - Image 1If you know anyone who's thinking that the Wii Fit is the fun-and-easy ticket to a better shape, tell them that they're gonna have to get used to that fat gut sticking out. The American Council on Exercise has released their findings on the effectiveness of the so-called fitness game, and what they found is that, "The Wii Fit is a very, very mild workout."

There have been many doubts as to the exercise value of Wii Fit and other fitness games for a long time, but to say very, very mild makes it sound like the equivalent of the effort you make looking for the remote around the couch. The study found that Free Run and Island Run are the most effective, averaging 165 calories burned with every 30-minute session - though that's not quite the workout that Nintendo promised.

“I guess anything is better than nothing, but we were a little bit underwhelmed with the exercise intensity of some of the exercises,” says Dr. John Porcari. “The Wii Fit is a very, very mild workout.”

Will Beyonce do better?

shocking...

I've found the cure for obesity...its called a gym....go to the gym after work/college 4 times a week for a few months and your sorted....amazing the amount of people who sit on there ass eating ***** who do there 30 minute 'workout' on the wii fit and are surprised that they havent lost weight...lazy asses always looking for the easy way....hmmmm....After reading my post it seems very grumpy...I guess this is a subconcious hate of mine

I played it..

..and while in tip-top shape, found it to be a nice complement to other types of workouts. I'm not sure why the AC of E would discourage folks from doing something. I did tend to scored well in the exercises, but much of the skills were for parts I didn't generally focus. For shame, council. This balance board can help folks.

and

and for people too lazy (like me) there is another obesity cure: diet. Yeah, it won't enable you to show off your muscles, but at least you'll be slim.

Nintendo should make...

Nintendo should make some game that encourages people to do sit-ups, I'd really buy that (cause doing them is really boring, but with a videogame would be much funnier). Or a wii game that includes 22 pounds weights (which would really replace a gym), but that's not really possible xD
