A look back at the rumored Nintendo E3 info

Link from Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Image 1We held off reporting on the rumored Nintendo E3 info (that allegedly came from a credible source) that was posted at NeoGAF the other day. Mostly because we wanted to wait for confirmation that it was true (which in turn was mostly because we sort of wanted a lot of the rumored good news to be true).

But when you're running a news and entertainment site, sometimes "entertainment" is "news" - especially when the rumors are as juicy and entertaining as these. And rather than let this new set of rumors slip by into oblivion, we might as well preserve them for the sake of posterity.

The rumors read like a Nintendo fanboy's fantasy list. We most especially love the bit about the final video that was shown at the end of the "Nintendo Media Event":

Link then appears screaming for a very brief second before the screen turns black and a tri-force slams onto the screen and smashes into pieces. If the character model used for Link is any indication of where this series is headed, expect ultra-realism, grittiness, and a very dark feel.

Oh man. That Angst!Link or Dark!Link is just going to be fodder for erotic fanfiction writers the world over. You can't get much more entertaining than this. (And what if it turns out to be true? You do know that many critics and fans are trying to pressure Nintendo into having more "mature" stuff for the Wii.) Here are some other fun parts from the rumor:
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Release date August 20, 2007. The final entry in the Prime series. New missions, suits, and weapons are downloadable. It's this aspect that delayed the game for so long.
  • The video montage.
    • Mario Kart – Graphically impressive. Looked very traditional. Controlled like other Wii racing games, Wi-Fi logo.
    • Animal Crossing – Looks very much like past titles. Wi-Fi logo.
    • Vision Red – Original Nintendo RPG. Looked similar to Final Fantasy VII in terms of character design and style of play.
    • Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball – Why this game is only available in video form is beyond me. However, the graphics have been spruced up from the Gamecube version and it controls like you think it would.
    • Wii Health – People doing a variety of exercises with the Wii Remote shown. Results page shows calories burned and a variety of other information. Mii are utilized.
    • Wii Music – A variety of instruments can be played with the Wii Remote and each performance added to others to make songs. Wi-Fi logo.
    • Mii Popularity – Looked a lot like Everybody Votes with Mii profiles. Various attributes can be ranked. Miis appear to be grouped in different classifications for ranking and ease of finding.
    • Demo Channel – Showed players downloading demos of Virtual Console titles.
E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) will be held this July 11 to July 13 at Santa Monica, California. It looks like it will still be invitation-only, where an expected 5,000 "business-minded" gaming and media representatives will have intimate chitchat sessions to plan our gaming future. And, if the rumors are true, they'll also marvel at Screaming!Link and Smash!Tri-Force and Nintendo's new "grit."

Nintendo did state that a new Zelda game was more than a year in development. Hopefully these rumors are true, especially the one about a new Zelda. A darker Zelda sounds like the perfect game to me.

This was debunked a while ago. The original poster was even banned from the site when he admitted that it was fake. You shouldn't post this kind of stuff on the site it hurts your image

As if the corny Zelda line "A love to die for" wasn't proof enough. This post should be rectified or removed

i dont care wat kind a story it will be as long the gameplay is good as the other zelda games, aint that realy matter? because in the end you always have to fight ganadorf using the mastersword with zelda in her aid. i think it dont need 2B a fancy story or make the characters in the game look cool. i hope they just balance the game right with the story, like in the other zelda games. Let the game be it self, cuz im stil gonna play it anyway!

It is VERY possible for Nintendo to be making a new Zelda Game for the Wii. Why is it not?

Consider that the last game was ready for RELEASE about 8 month's before it actually was released. So a Zelda development team has had time to initialise development idea's. Also considering how popular the series is, and how well TP sold on release, Nintendo could very well be making a new one. You are all saying 'no, no they can't be' . Why can't they be? You don't know what does on behind doors. nor do i, i really am just speculating.

But a more logical excuse for the triforce/dark link footage would be for Super Smash Bro's perhaps
