A first trailer of Red Steel multiplayer mode

Red SteelRed Steel is one of Ubisoft's big launch titles for Wii (Americans can expect it November 19; it'll be out early December for the rest of the world), and its multiplayer mode has now been revealed in the form of a trailer. The trailer showed four people ("excellent" acting there, hehe) "playing" Red Steel.

The katana-geeks here were disappointed that it only showed the firearms side of the gameplay (as you know, Red Steel features both sword-fighting and shooting). But it's a good video.

Red Steel was one of the first games for the Wii to be heavily marketed, and a lot of news was released: at the time, we were impressed by the immersive nature of the controls - if you twist your controller, your weapon twists as well - and this trailer shows that.

We didn't see any AI here, so we're not sure if you can have multiplayer mode with bots thrown in (for added fun), because bots would be nice if you're a noob and still trying to get the hang of the Wiimote (it is a launch title; few of us who will try this game are "experts" on the Wii remote). We'll have to wait and see - there might be more videos; as Matt Casamassina (the guy some of you think is Perrin Kaplan's boyfriend-to-be, which is so not true) said at IGN (where we got this video - thanks, IGN!) that this is only the first trailer of the multiplayer mode in action. (It's Ubisoft; they're real good when it comes to marketing and releasing videos.)

One thing you should notice: these people are waving their arms about even though the screen has been divided into four parts. No, just because your character's only in one-fourth of the screen, it doesn't mean that you have to control your actions to be one-fourth of your normal movement.

That's good design: the Wii won't be much fun if its games aren't intuitive.

This just gives me another reason to get a wii. the multiplayer looks great. I just wish that nintendo launched its Wi-fi on the day of launch so we could play with others. Although, this would be great to play at parties and birthdays. This game is going to sell like hot cakes. A must buy launch title.

Isn't it? Imagine how tough it is for us writers! We see so many cool games (and not just for the Wii - for the PS3, too). Even though we don't have the time to write about all of them, every new bit of game news makes us wish it was November NOW! :)

Shame nintendo couldn't launch wifi in november to restate the obvious. Alll the Otaku at game day in anime might disapointed when I bring no news of dueling yet (I wanted to duel as well without having you know...drawing my blade and killing them) I want to see how they work the katana dueling out whiether they will enable duel blades (the function to use both the tanto and katana seperatly or its stuck or a unlockble or unable too this would be a shame.) Good job Ubisoft but I want some decapitation and blood to make my steel...run red.

So, what? They are going to have console multiplayer but not include online multiplayer? This seems like such a waste of a good game. I have been having second thoughts about purchasing it. First the talk of the controls being clunky... Have they said anything about adding mp in a future patch or something? Can you patch on the Wii?

The gameplay reminds me of Goldeneye for some reason... Who knows, but it looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to play this with my friends on launch day.

Sounds cool hearing the Wiimotes in action with the announcer telling you who is the target. I bet it'd get pretty fun and frantic with a lot of friends playing and you go from being the hunter to the hunted in a matter of seconds.

And I like how it seems you can create characters or at least choose many different types that seemed to be either not in the game or NPCs.

All in all this is looking very cool. I just wonder how the wii doesn't get confused with all those hundreds of motions going on by four different controllers at once.
