3rd Parties Gushing Pink About the Wii |

And that's as pink as the pink DS Lite. These third parties are all praises for the Wii, citing its innovative approach to gaming, its broad appeal across the audience, and its accessibility to the masses as reasons to get its games in line for the new console. Of course they've been hard at work developing all the confirmed titles for the Wii that we've heard up to now, but we'll bet that's just the beginning, and behind those closed doors at EA, Sega, Konami, and elsewhere, new and radical ideas for Wii games must be brewing up a storm.
The only thing that remains to be heard now are those quotes from ordinary gamers like you gushing pink about the Wii. But that'll wait until November 19. In the meanwhile, check out what the third parties have to say about the Wii.
Larry Probst, Chairman/CEO, Electronic Arts
- I believe the Wii will attract new and casual gamers to the world of interactive entertainment. ItÂ’s a fun, easy and economical system that will become a bridge to gaming for mainstream audiences. At EA, we are putting more support behind the Wii than any Nintendo hardware launch since the Super NES.
- The Wii is changing audience interaction, opening up whole new experiences that have never been possible in video games. With the instinctual control of the Wii Remote, Nintendo is advancing the gaming experience to the broadest audience of gamers. Activision is excited about the launch of the Wii and the opportunity it offers. So much so, we plan to have five titles available at launch - our strongest lineup ever for a new console. We have more development resources devoted to the Wii than to any previous Nintendo platform. The Wii is likely to have a profound impact on the size, growth and overall opportunities for the video game market.
- The Wii control scheme opens up unexplored areas for our talented teams to innovate when creating games. ItÂ’s invigorating for us. We believe that it will help create a new level of interest in video games and engage more players around the world.
- NintendoÂ’s strategy is expanding the market. We are thrilled.
- NintendoÂ’s vision perfectly aligns with our strategy to broaden our portfolio by allowing us to create new genres that have strong global appeal.
- Video games are becoming more of a mainstream phenomenon than ever before with virtually all members of the family playing different games in the living room. NintendoÂ’s strategy of ease of play and mass marketing pricing is perfectly aligned with Disney.
- In order for our industry to continue to grow, weÂ’ve got to think about gaming and games differently. ThatÂ’s exactly what Nintendo is doing.
- For established publishers, the Virtual Console model is a tremendous opportunity to extend our classic brands. Nobody ever thinks of a good book as retired - why shouldnÂ’t great games live forever, too?
- With escalating costs for both developing games and for consumers buying new game systems, we applaud Nintendo’s drive to spread gaming to the masses – and we fully support that approach.

Wii = $250
3 Wiimotes = $180
Another Zelda Sequel = $50
Total $480
Nintendo is selling the same 5 year old crap with a dildo controller for a next-gen price. And $50 games? WTF? Who would pay $50 for games that aren't even Gamecube quality, let alone next-gen. Thank God (not that I belive in fairy tales) that the PS3 is coming out 2 days earlier. Even the *****box 360 would be more worthwile than the Gamecube 0.5.

Do yourselves a favor. Get a job, get a PS3. That is, if you're not some 10 year old pokemon fan.

How the heck is 30-40 bucks a 'fair price' for the Wii when you pay 40-50 easy for a PSP game? PSP isn't even as powerful as a PS2 which was THE WEAKEST of the consoles last gen.
The Wii is more powerful than the original Xbox and people still pay 50 bucks for those games. And people who keep griping over the Wii graphics. Remember that the Wii is roughly twice as powerful as a Gamecube and Gamecube brought beautiful games like RE4 and Baten Kaitos.
Keep in mind this is first gen Wii graphics (which most look great and people just hate on). Remember how bad some old PS2 games look compared to games like God of War?
Be patient and stop hating.

If you can't afford a PS3 just wait it out. There's no need to waste money on more Nintendo crap. The Wii offers nothing that hasn't been done and failed before. Then again, I guess failure is what Nintendo's best at.

I want a Wii first and foremost for the games, new gameplay and fact that Nintendo makes quality products at a low price. I plan on getting a PS3 or 360 as well...maybe both. But FIRST I'm getting a console I KNOW I want.
I've seen maybe three games for the Wii so far I wouldn't want to play: Cars, Final Furlong and...I can't think of another at the moment, but there's one or two more. Wii has the best launch of any system in history. I'm sure that after a year or so PS3 will have some noteworthy games, but right now I'm not going to spend 600 bucks on Heavenly Sword and FFXIII.

My DVD player is top notch so I wouldn't want one that's in a console, and when I go HD, I can chose the format I want. So why pay for ANOTHER DVD player. With a PS3 I HAVE to have BluRay unless I want to fork out for an external drive (Assuming the PS3 will handle them) which is even more stupid.
Where #2 got the idea that the Gamecube was garbage I dunno. It failed with games cause of a balls up by Nintendo. The machine itself blew the PS2 away. People did a lot more cooler stuff with the Gamecube than the PS3.
And you know what? Most people I know getting Wii's are NOT the people who need to "get a job" to buy a PS3. They are people with 6 figure salaries (Myself included) in their mid 30's who have been playing games for over 20 years, since the industry started. We have experienced EVERY type of game machine, game genre and control method there is.
The Wii gives us:
1) More money to spend on games, rather than money going to another DVD player I don't need and HD which I don't need to enjoy myself.
2) Virtual console to play all the old favourites
3) Access to arguably the best games franchises in the world (Zelda, Mario)
4) New controller method that will allow games that can't be done on current consoles control systems easily.
5) A wicked array of launch titles
Thing is, who cares. Play your PS3 and have fun, play your Wii, 360, or *****ing atari 2600 if that floats your boat.

I completely agree with you wholeheartedly. Heck, I'm 22 myself and have been playing games longer than half these fanboys have been alive. And as you said, we've experienced every type of game out there. We want something new, not just another shinier Halo.
We know what good games are about because we have grown up with the best of the best. I've experienced everything from Atari on up and #16 probably remembers the Commador 64 and Pong so he's seen it all.
As I said before, I'm probably going to get all three systems eventually, but first and foremost I want new and fun gameplay and I can get that best on the Wii.

The Wii is obviously different and innovative, it's a more obvious buy than the PS3 that doesn't offer anything different other than improved graphics and the bells and whistles that doesn't even belong in console gaming. It distracts from the actualy gaming.
What do you need movie playback for. Features like that are proven to lessen the life of your console. Buy a standalone one. I never used the PS2 dvd player since it's proven to lesses the motor life.
Graphics is obviously really important but can you fault how games like Metroid looks on Wii. If you're so loaded with money that you can call people who doesn't want a PS3 jobless, why don't you buy a highend PC with that new 15k graphics card nvidia is realeasing.
Anyway dl the highres vid of the movie that shows Metroid3 played using expert control on IGN (or some mirror ;)). It's awesome, 3rd person shooter on a console with the control and feel of a keyboard and mouse. What the hell is wrong with you people?!?
I have yet to see something about the PS3 that makes me WANT to get it. You can NOT dispute this fact. It's probable that the PS3 can get some sort of space detection controller like the Wiimote and clone/improve some games. But right now thats not apparant. And I right now I want Wii more than the PS3.
Speaking of WANTS.
You say you have to get jobs to get the PS3 and brag about it. I don't see what the big deal is. I for one never worked in my life and got everything I wanted. You say your paycheck can pay for a PS3 and people who want the Wii are jobless vagrants. Maybe so, I don't a have cent to my name but all I have to use my voice and ask for a Wii and I will get a Wii. If I WANT a ps3 I could just txt msg someone and then I'll get both for the fun of it.
I'm not bragging and i'm not even proud of that. I'm not old enough to work, or should I say I'm concentrating on my studies and thankfully I don't NEED to work just yet.
The reason why I'm saying is this, people here, are so quick to judge the reason of people that are getting Wii's is because they can't AFFORD a PS3. Maybe and maybe it's not like that at all.
Get a clue.

Man, none of you actually read the story, did you? If you had you'd have realized that big names in video game development, who know a hell of a lot more about successful video games than you do, tend to think the Wii is awesome. And BTW, how much do you think the crappy PS3 controller will cost? Probably the same as the Wii and Xbox 360 controllers. Meanwhile, anyone who says Twilight Princess is the same old thing is a *****ing hypocrite if he/she plans to buy any of the Final Fantasy VII/XIII games, Halo 3, Madden 2007, Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA 4, or any of the countless other games that are part of a series.
Lest we forget: the PSP was a big high-end device with multimedia capabilities and great graphics, and it's losing out in worldwide sales (which I know even though Sony's only brave enough to publish the units shipped because that's still lower than the number of DS units sold) by the DS, a low-end, single-function device with inferior graphics and a "gimmicky" control scheme. Let's also not forget that since E3; the press, developers, industry analysts, and polls have all been pro-Wii. One more thing to remember: the best technology for a game console NEVER WINS. (NOTE THAT IN THIS NEXT SECTION, WHEN I SAY "INFERIOR" I MEAN IN TERMS OF PROCCESSING POWER AND GRAPHICS; DON'T TRY TO BE CLEVER BY INTENTIONALLY MISCONTRUING MY WORDS TO MAKE IT SOUND LIKE I'M SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT OVERALL QUALITY). The NES was inferior to the Master System, the SNES was inferior to the Genesis/Mega Drive, the PS1 was inferior to the N64, the Game Boy was inferior to too many competitors for me to list, the PS2 was inferior to the Xbox (I'd rather get into the debate about its power compared to the Gamecube), and the DS is inferior to the PSP. Yet all the inferior systems have come out on top. Heck, the Dreamcast was already on its way to failure before the current gen systems came out.
And finally we come to cost. Let me explain something to the people who say people who don't like the PS3 price are just cheap: my family is in a lot of debt right now. Years ago my dad invested everything in an idea that's only now coming to fruition. We can't afford as many luxuries as we used to, which is why my dad is pushing as hard as he can to make this work. I don't have my own job, and it's not because I'm too lazy to get one; it's because I'm a late bloomer when it comes to driving, my parents can't drive me to work every day, and there's nothing walking distance from where I live. The only thing close is a nursing home at which I do volunteer work. My point is that I really can't afford to pay 600 dollars for a system with only a couple worthwhile games and innovations limited to better graphics and tilt technology that's very limited and has been in use for ages. I can, however, afford to pay 250 dollars for the system I wanted most in the first place, with many awesome games (both original and in some of the highest-rated series in gaming history), support for a portable memory unit I already own, a new and interesting way to play games, and a free game in the package. Yes, an extra controller is expensive, but I also don't have to pay for a game if I don't want to. Plus, as I said, a PS3 controller won't be all that much cheaper (if at all).
On the subject of money, unlike the 600 bucks I'd pay for a PS3, the 250 I pay for a Wii won't go to a company notorius for racist billboards and representatives who treat customers like morons, say that people who can't afford the more expensive configuration aren't true gamers, tell people who can't afford it to work harder, steal ideas and technology from other companies, deny that their screwing up the controller was for revenge, claim battles in ancient Japan were fought with giant enemy crabs, use misleading numbers to trick people into believing they're beating t

Meanwhile, what's notorious about Nintendo? A name of which people made fun for about a week before the joke ended (minus some stragglers who never realized that nobody's impressed) and a couple bad ideas in the past that tend to get lost behind all the good ones. Nintendo also isn't ashamed to admit its mistakes.
This b.s. has got to end. To be honest, I've wasted all the time I spent writing this. I only did it because people don't want to think about these things on their own. There are two solid things that back me up and that nobody can deny, both of which I've already mentioned and have been brought up before me. First, Sony and Nintendo's philosophies for handhelds are the same as their philosophies for consoles, and Nintendo's on top. For the second, just read the story to which we're responding. We won't know for sure until after both systems come out, but the majority of the evidence thus far is pointing towards a Nintendo victory.

Glad to see I'm not alone here. I'm 23, employed and college educated. I'm also planning on getting a Wii, but not a PS3. Price is not the issue since I can easily afford both of them. I'm choosing the Wii over the PS3 because I have had nothing but bad luck with Sony products and customer service in the past. I had 2 PS1's break and 1 PS2 break. Sony's response? Too bad. It would have been cheaper to buy a new console than for them to repair it. On the other hand, I've owned every Nintend console (NES, SNES, N64 & GCN) and have 0 problems with any of them. As for all you whiners moaning about how "the Wii sux!" or "its for babies!", get a life. Chances are I've been playing games while you were still in diapers. You're nothing but spoiled, graphical fanboys who have no appreciation for gameplay and the history of video games.
