2K prez: Wii flooded with crappy titles |
Someone had to say it. In a recent interview, 2K boss Christoph
Hartmann remarked that the Wii market is flooded by "crappy titles,"
making it hard for the real gems to shine:Where people go wrong in the casual market is that, while the development costs are exploding on the casual side, they're treating the Wii like the old PC market - making cheap, accessible games.
They think if they make ten titles and two are hits, they will finance the other eight. But they forget these eight crappy titles will flood the market and will lead to problems in terms of production - and upset retailers. Also, the consumer will be pissed off because they'll be confused.
2K's own Carnival Games, which got meager, if not downright stinky, ratings from critics, was a commercial success. Hmm... I honestly don't know whether Carnival Games would be considered a "crappy title" or not, based on those facts. Anyway, on the success of the game, Hartmann comments:
Had we released it last week, it would have been much tougher. ThereÂ’s far too much stuff in the Wii market [now] and itÂ’s hard to shine. While the Wii is the strongest growing console, itÂ’s a risk not to have well known brands in your games.

The 360 and PS3 have TONS of bombs as well.
If you look at the number of crappy games compared to the number of games overall the Wii is by far the leader of crap. The problem is that the Wii is just a gimick kids console with the exception of a handful of games there's nothing worth playing. That's why the 360 has the highest attach rate in consoles. The biggest problem is it's cheap to develop for so the game makers can keep churning out crap since it's cheap to do so on a Wii. People buy a wii to play Wii Sports and believing the hype that it's so wonderful then after a month it's a dust collector and takes a back seat to the 360, PS3 or even the PS2 if the person has one. Just face facts, there are no great games on the Wii and the supposed motion controls aren't as they seem unless you buy the new addon that makes the movements accurate. I wouldn't recommend a Wii to anyone, I haven't played mine in 6 months or more.
I didn't say anything about about who has more. Don't ASSume information. I said they all have crap.

I didnt read it but I have to agree with the title.
The Wii does have a LOT of crap games. a LOT arnt worth buying and are priced way to high.
I'm not comparing the games to PS3 and 360 but if I did they wouldnt even come close to the quality. The Wii has the lowest quality of games out atm. They look really bad. I also hate the controller. I prefer a controller like the 360 or PS3 compared to the wiimote which is a very uncomfortable block in your hand. Next time make it fit the hand kinda like the nunchuck which still needs work on it. At least the 360 controller is comfortable to play with.
As for the games, there are too many new devs making poor games and flodding the market with crap. How about combining about 5 of your games into 1 and make a good game.
Flame me all you want but its true. Get a game on the PS3/360 and compare it to the Wii version. You wont finish the Wii version as its crap compared to the PS3/360 version.

I bought the Wii in 07. It sucks to me not just because of the games its but because who wants to pay $50 for low quality games. If they sold the games for say around $30 from the start then I wouldn't say ***** about their games. $50 for the last gen level of games is steep. I know we can't compare the Wii with Sony and M$ because it's pointless. But the Wii is the Cube with a new dress on. My kids play more Cube games than the Wii games. In the last 6 months they maybe only played it twice. People sadly mistake the sales of a low costing system for quality. If Nintendo had the funds to make a current Gen system they would have. They lost plenty of money on their Cartridge era. That's why we have the Wii now. It took them to long to adapt to the disc age. I liked the gamecube its self but to make a gamecube 2 with out it being better than the last wasn't to smart in my opinion. The Wii has its small perks but it certainly is the best thing on the market.

You can't see that the "MAJORITY" that Nintendo targeted were three-year-old boys who scream every night for McDonalds and should be playing on a LeapFrog console. But, they want the flashy white box that lets you be lazy and play sports like tennis, bowling, etc. for free in your living room. The parents buy it for them to avoid temper tantrums for a week and when the child realizes the Wii is boring as piss, it's back to the "I WANT ICE CREAM" tantrums.
Every single console that has been made have always had crappy games, every single one. IMO, Super Nintendo was the console with the least crappy games.
Now, in this generation, if we are to meassure up the amount of crappy games (that is, games that are barely even worth renting or looking at), it might amount to this:
XBOX 360: ~30%
PS3: ~40%
Wii: ~85%
I also agree with Cristoph Hartman, with so many crappy games on the Wii, more people will be discouraged to try and develop good games because other people might believe that it's just another worthless game. And a great amount of the people in the gaming community is losing respect for the console and even Nintendo. And when a gem of a game from a third party will arrive to the Wii, people might ignore it. That is a real shame, but it's the truth and you have to stop being in denial. I, like many, bought the Wii out of loyalty to Nintendo, but I haven't played mine since November (I bought Animal Crossing: City Folk and was extremely dissapointed).

Pretty much every gaming site not affiliated with Nintendo agrees, the Wii is host to more crap shovelware both in numbers and percentage than any other system in recent history.
The MAJORITY of sites, the MAJORITY of Wii owners, and the MAJORITY of non owners agree with me. It's obvious to anyone that has ever shopped for Wii games. You can even tell from the games' titles that they are completely worthless for even 5 minutes of entertainment for the $50-$30 that you must pay.
