29-year-old burns house down after mom trashes his Gundam collection

We know that they went a little Gundam-crazy in Japan last month, but this is taking crazy to a whole new level. 29-year-old factory worker Yoshifumi Takabe has been put under arrest for burning his house down, all because his mom trashed his precious Gundam figure collection.

Lots of problems with that one: a) he burned the place he goes home to; b) he still lives with his mom; c) he's gonna share a cell with a dude that'll treat him worse than a Gundam toy.

Okay, so 29-year-olds still living with their mothers are perfectly acceptable in some countries, especially those with family-oriented cultures. But for Takabe's mom, she should've kicked him out when she had the chance. Takabe, as the story went, intended to kill himself after getting into a fight with his mom over his Gundam figure collection. Apparently, mom disposed of her son's precious Gundam collection for reasons unrevealed.

In an attempt to kill himself, Takabe soaked his room up in kerosene, got a lighter, and burned their two-storey 2,700sq. ft. house to the ground. It's worth noting that despite this thing being a suicide attempt, Takabe made it out alive and unscathed. And yes, mom made it alive unscathed too.

so the guy lives with family... with a 10% unemployment rate i doubt it's that uncommon.

mom shouldn't of touched another adult's possessions, son should of realized it wasn't the end of the world...

i can see burning down mom's house... eye for an eye and all (yes i'd rather everyone be blind, not just the victims) but killing yourself?

My uncle lived with his mom even he is lawyer because she is a single mom and he actually cook, wash and clean etc for his mom. I think he is a great son. Not like me.. I moved out and I am now full of debt +P

Well I can actually understand a connection to the gundams even though I've never actually owned any and was never a fan of the hobby collecting, toy painting scene. I have a cousin who was into them and he actually bought them and put them together and painted them and all that and there were gundams that ran hundreds of dollars. The Gundams obviously meant a lot to the guy and they probably were worth thousands and took hundreds of hours.

But, I don't care how much you love a hobby, if someone destroyed my life's work I wouldn't try to kill myself (seppuku!!!) This guy is a loser. Not because he lives with his mom (he's got a job and probably could have moved out if he wanted), not because he burned his house down when he lost his Gundams (I'd have gotten revenge too). He's a loser because he tried to kill himself with fire and failed. If his aim was to burn the house I'd tip my hat to him for getting back at a woman who's onviously a b*tch lol.
