Console Wars - Image 1Before anything else, let me remind you folks something. Fanboys suxorz, iz teh n00b.

As you know, console sales are important in the life cycle of a console. Perform poorly, and this might happen to them.

We don't show you folks sales numbers just so you can b-slap each other. It's for those who are concerned for the performance of their consoles on the market. More sales, more games after all.

Now that that's over with, here are the latest data on how your preferred consoles are doing.
Here are the relative sales for each of the consoles in their first 26 months in the market, for comparison purposes:
  • Wii: 17.5 million
  • PS2: 15.9 million
  • PS3: 6.79 million
  • Xbox 360: 9.2 million
The Wii is set to become the best-selling console of all time (no duh), beating even the PS2, based on their performances in the 26-month time frame.

Venture Beat also pointed out that in its first 26 months, the PS3 sold as much as the GameCube did in the same time frame. Which doesn't mean that all is lost for the PS3. It might not make a startling comeback, but Venture Beat notes that Sony might still have a profitable generation with the PS3 thanks to its power and shelf life.

So?

sony could have made a low-def gaming system like the wii and have done the same thing. they had that gun for duck hunt how many years ago? so now they have newer technology to do it. big deal. the PS3 is an HD gaming home theater. sony put out a high quality system. wii put put a cheap last gen system. microsoft put out a low quality system and charges you to play online. oh yea and your system could get the rrod.

Hmmm

You can say whatever you want to say, but what matters are the numbers and they do not lie :p.

PS3 OWN

Ps3 still has a chance the console war is no where near done becuase of the price cuts and sony atleast made the mart move to leave ps2 games in the making they were expecting for a high priced system to be very low in sales so they will keep making ps2 games until the ps3 is at a better price and makes more people want them .

.

I can see another big videogame crash coming, all thanks to Nintendo. The message this sends is: nobody cares about quality games, everyone just wants crappy overpriced hardware. Atari did the same thing to cause the first videogame crash, inferior hardware and crap games.

NA numbers?

Are these just NA numbers? Why aren't they using worldwide numbers if they're talking about the title of best-selling console?

XBOT Here

I dont care what you guys say. I bought the xbox not because it was cheap. I bought it because I knew about the community that comes with it. The Xbox Live. MMO'S Gears 2 Halo 3 Fable 2 Left 4 dead. Too Human Halo Wars Trust me when the Ps3 gets a 100 drop like Micro did on the Xbox360. Ill be the first in line to get one. but as for now XBOX360.

Crash?

What do you mean by Crash? If you mean hold back truly Next gen graphics based systems then, yes, possibly. But that is not a crash, crash would be the video game industry being declared unprofitable and Sony and MS pulling out along with Nintendo going bankrupt. As it is Nintendo are raking in the cash because they sell the wii hardware at a price point where they make a proffit. MS are breaking even on hardware and sony are selling at a loss, but no one has said they're going bankrupt. What it means is that MS and Sony have learnt a very hard lesson, they need to have game systems that are new and revolutionary, not just through more clock cycles and fancier graphics into the system. What this article also doesn't cover is the fact that it is very common for 360 owners to also buy a wii and vice versa. I'm waiting on a report that shoes the number of people that own what console and what the numbers are for those combinations. Atari sold so well because people loved the games that were on the old 2600 systems. They probably contributed a little to the lack of sales for the Sega Master System, but Sega went broke long after Atari 2600 had all but disappeared completely off the shelves. The Sega Dreamcast, Sega's last hope was a generation equivalent to the PS2. However it was in competition with the much cheaper and larger games library of the PS1. The simple fact is if you're not offering something new and interesting you're not going to sell as much as you could. Pretty graphics only count for so much and the wii has proved that quite well.

Fair Enough...

I agree with your sentiment, you chose the 360 because it was the console for you. I chose the PS3 for the same reason. Can we leave the war at that? Choose your own console and be happy with it!
