Rumor: Low allocation of PS3s for Australia?

Australian PS3 - Image 1Allegedly, some retailers have discovered the amount of PS3s that would be hitting their shores come launch day on March 23,2007. It appears that only 11,000 units are set to be released. Now, while some would be livid at this thought, the reported retail price of a 60GB unit would be about $AUS 1,000 (about $ USD 800) so not everyone would really be able to afford the steep cost. (We're assuming import duties and taxes have jacked up the price.)

Remember, this is only a rumour. But in the case that it is true, we would be very saddened that many won't be able to enjoy the PS3 during it's release. More information when it comes up.

HAHAHA another slow news day QJ? Where did you get your info from, www.ps3fakenews.com? Sony is hoping to have shipped 6 million by march and are currently on target, I doubt that auzzie will recieve 11,000, try adding on another 0. Luckally for me the UK gets 220,000

That's probably about the right amount. The Xbox 360 broke the record in Australia for fastest selling console, 100,000 in 7 MONTHS! They aren't massive figures. Plus the PS3 is going to be AU$999, that's like US$750. What a rip off.

» Dumb Price

I haven't done the price conversions, but it wouldn't be high because of taxes, usually we get this cheaper. But because of the exchange rate and the fact Sony thinks we'll pay that much (and many might, I haven't decided myself) we're going to be ripped off.

How much are they in the US because it'll prolly be cheaper to import.

All region 4 ppl are being ripped of, how long till the price matches japan's and the US price.

» not surprised too much....

.... ummm let's see, USD $600 + 10% GST + import duties + retailer rip-off markups = USD $750. that sounds about right.

The aussie gamer's always been ripped off anyways... I mean why would a PC game like UFO Afterlight cost $64AUD when Play Asia are selling it (before shipping) $32AUD!?!?!?!?

Don't blame Sony for the markup... blame the government for the ridiculous taxes and blame the retailer for the ridiculous markups
