Red Dead Redemption appears to be banned in the UAE. Or is it? We haven't heard any official word from Rockstar or the UAE government about the ban taking place, but the buzz on the street is that yes, it has been banned from distribution in the region.

UAE retailer Dubai Mall has reportedly told customers that the game has in fact been banned in the country -- which should come as a bit of a surprise considering that we have not really seen anything ultraviolent in its screens and trailers. Unless of course they have a thing against cowboys and whipping horses into full throttle.

Meanwhile, local UAE distributor Red Entertainment can only mumble a very useful PR reply of "no comment".

Red Dead Redemption is set to gallop out to Europe and PAL retail stores on May 21st, 2010.

Wow... UAE must have been missing out on a few good titles. Wasn't there a few other games banned, from a few months back?

Horse racing is too big in that country to care about whipping them. More likey it's the bar maids. These will make what we got in GTA4 looks like child's play.

There is no sex in the game at all. When trying to approach a lady for sex, John Marston always says, "Sorry miss, I'm married." However there are some curse words, rape inuendos, hangings, and lots and lots of hunting. There's also cannibalism....Perhaps this is why they banned it. Either way, this seems like one way piracy will benefit a country....

Living in UAE, i understand a lot of games being banned (like God of war, and GTA4) but i dunno, i mean, theyre probably gonna come up with a typical reason like "too much violence".
Shame, but i can always buy it out of the country :P
