Ys: The Oath in Felghana limited edition announced |

Ó
As Xseed has announced before, there's another Ys game coming to the PSP within the year. With Ys Seven out just last month, we're now looking at Ys: The Oath in Felghana. Like Ys Seven, Xseed will also be releasing this one in a limited edition package.

This package will contain the usual soundtrack CD plus an Ys-themed desktop calendar for 2011. Xseed has five more games scheduled for next year, so you can mark that calendar with their release dates when they come.
The Ys: The Oath in Felghana limited edition clocks in at US$ 39.99, just ten bucks more than the price of the standalone.

Seriously... a desktop calendar?!
I suspect this LE plan came after the launch of Ys Seven, since that one comes with a map and artbook for all the recent+upcoming YS games and now they're scrambling to get another LE out.

I dont know about desktop calendars (or much about special editions for that matter), but I was pleasantly surprised by Ys 7.
Better then I had expected.
Standard "traditional" JRPG fare, but thats plenty good enough and seems an unfortunately rare offering from all the newfangled JRPG's either attempting to be interactive FMV's (square) or changing things that dont need to be changed just to be different.
The classic mechanics only need fine tuning, engaging stories and scenario's are what makes a great RPG.
"engaging stories" of course that can be relative, but that is where at least half the artistry should be focused.
Not just taking a look at MTV/g4 and saying, "well people like that".

Actually let me replace that in hierarchy with characters.
Without a sympathetic protagonist your floating without a rudder.
Having characters that you can care about, most especially the protagonist, is only secondary to interesting scenarios to put them in.
1. Characters or scenes
2. Scenes or characters
3. Mechanics, specifically battle and then travel.
4. Overall plot
Personally I'd put decent to acceptable graphics in front of everything.
(I'm a graphics whore)
8-16 bit style graphics are just not excusable anymore outside of HB or emu's.
(Sorry working designs)
Still wonderful in perspective though, I'm playing snatcher on PSP right now.

brought ps1's "shadow madness" to mind, which is probably the only game where i hated the entire party.. needless to say, i hated the game, and many other facets to it

It sucks, plain and simple.

Overall playing JRPGs on PC sucks, not the game.

This game is a masterpiece of ARPG design, but I guess you can't expect a policeofficer to be able to appreciate good game design, they tend to be below average intelligence if not downright stupid. Probably not even an RPG fan to begin with. Otherwise I don't see how he could not like this game. I've had to burn a copy for everyone who's ever watched me play it, they all love it. Now that there is going to be an official US version, I'll be buying this on release day (I did not purchase the PC version, but, that's because it was never marketed here and is not even intended to work on non-Japanese PCs, though I have considered sending the translator some money because he did an impressive job with it).
Now, if they'd just do a PSP version of Ys Origins. Incredibly fun game. Amazingly diverse levels for being set entirely in Darm Tower as well (but hey, we all know that's no normal tower by now, guess it's no surprise there could be entire worlds hidden inside it). I'd love to know what actually gets said in the dialogue scenes, not that it's necessary to beat the game, assuming you remember the workings of the tower from previous Ys games (I and IV specifically).
