Yes Prinny, you can be the hero, and you've got 3 vids to show for it

Can he really be the hero? Yes he can. Don't let the chubby purple penguin look fool you - Prinny is a vicious hack-and-slashing demon. Nippon Ichi's Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? is a solid combination of light humor and a surprising jolt of carnage.

This first vid is the opening level with a few tutorial notes here and there. The demon penguin brandishes his tiny sword and hacks away at his foes. Even the boss got owned - Prinny's got major combos up his non-sleeve.

This next one shows our new hero invading a fortress. We see more of his sword skills, plus his other specialty - bomb-throwing. Apart from slicing the crap out of the enemy, Prinny shows that he can put the splash in splash damage.

The last one shows Prinny adding the RPG flavor to the game with the usual exploration of the perilous forest. The aerial blade attack gets old after a while, but it still gets the job done.

Either Prinny owns that much, or the guy playing it is making the game look easy...or the game is, in fact, easy. Either way, he proves that he's got what it takes to be the hero.

» I don't know about this one...

If the video is correct, here we have a penguin who only has a tiny sword and one special move...anticlimactic bosses...and no break in the action of moving from left to right (unless you count moving platforms)...no puzzles to solve...no mini bosses...not even an incentive to move in a different direction...

I admit that the graphics are impressive, but all of the eye candy that you can cram into a video game does not make it a good game if there is nothing else that stands out.

But in the other hand, I think this is exactly what PSP's been lacking: a decent 2D-platformer.

I find the graphics very detailed and suitable for all gamers (not just the younger ones) and the gameplay seems very enjoyable. It's good to have games like this which actually can make you relaxed - I know it already made me chill out and good-mooded :-p

In the 2D-arena this is the closest thing we are getting to Oddworld Abe's Oddysee. I still wish they brought back the series to the playstation as an old-fashioned 2D-sidescroller/adventure/puzzle game like the very first Oddworld, since that game kicked some serious ass :/

» What a shame....

Its quite a shame that you PSP owners don't get to enjoy such... AWESOME platformers that the DS is so abundant of.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia anyone?

I love the Prinny's from Disgaea. Perhaps the most entertaining characters. Yeah, it's a side scroller, but it's the PSP, not a console. I think it'd be a lot of fun to play between trips and such.

» Actually...

The PSP does have more much that the DS because of Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles, which not only is twice as much fun as Order of Ecclesia (you know, because it's actually two games in one), but also has more than decent graphics, which is not what i can say about the DS Castlevania ;)

Its not supposed to be flashy, but it is supposed to be challenging. That's what Prinny is. Good. Hard. Fun.
