Will PSPik Really Allow Keyboards To Be Used Via PSP's IR Port? |
Listed in: PSP Tags: PSPBrew
Ó
Just recently, we have received a tip that a member of the community at pspsource.de named Kididio has written an application called "PSPik" which, via the PSP's IR port, basically allows your PSP to receive information from your IR keyboard.A video clip has been provided which shows this application in action, but we have been told that the application has not yet been publicly released, and its current version is still unclear. In the meantime, we shall be treating this video clip as a Proof of Concept and we'll also be eagerly keeping watch to see if this ever gets released. We will, of course, keep everyone posted once that does happen.
In the meantime, and just in case you can read German, you can view the original thread here and tell us what you make of it.
A very big thanks goes to Shoesy for the tip!

Translation:Our Community member Kididio works on a Selfmade solution which that uses from keyboards the PSP concerned. So instead of the usual USB connection to receive a keyboard with IR haven genutz around the data with the PSP. Necessarily for it is naturally also an appropriate Homebrew Tool that Kididio already wrote. A first video shows functionality.

Don't know how many PDA keyboards are supported by the ps2dev version, though.

We have had a keyboard (IR) work in the past - although it was only one type that not many had. (I only know of one, and that was about a year ago
I was thrilled when I saw this post with a picture of Targus's universal (Palm and WM) keyboard as I own one myself. Although the one in the video is not that one, so I doubt there will be support for the keyboard shown :(

i´ve not think about when i upload the vid that it would be posted here. thanks. its my first psp project, i bought my psp 2 month ago, but i´ve some cplusplus skills ;)
Let me tell you what i´ve planed in future for the app eg. for the real 0.01 roadversion:
- do learning of A N Y IR Keyboard
- do an prx file, you all know what this mean...
- a in-software-database for the mainstream IR boards
- add numlock, !"§$%[...] signs etc.
at the moment there are only the lower/higher case types work, Space and Backspace ...
watch out you´ll hear from me an PSPik - IR Keyboard driver for your PSP
bye

On the bad side of things, i just want to inform you that "PSPik" loosely translates to something in the like of "Playstation Penis" in danish, which really gives you the wrong associations. (Pik is actually not a very "nice" expression, so penis is a mild translation).
Anyways, i will keep an eye on this! Very cool :)

The Keyboard i use is from ebay (original man. HAMA), for about 13 Euro, that would be ~18 USD, at that is very cheap i think better as an orig $ony, so everybody who wants to use this function on the psp, can or can`t buy one.
My first idea was an port from an x86 system keyboard driver but the usb port on psp do not support this mode of data transfer.
Ok, pik = *****, lol, i´ll think about a new name...
