There seems to be a huge division among PSP gamers concerning the PSP version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Some love the fact that it's getting a PSP release, other hate it.

So far all we've seen of the game are screenshots, but now we can see how it moves thanks to this debut trailer from Rockstar.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will hit PSPs this month. On October 20, in fact.

» wait a second...

highest rated game on DS? I CALL BULL*****! I mean wouldn't pokemon or something equally as gay be the highest rated on DS?

» Like it or not

It's true. It looks alot better on PSP though. And I personally don't giv a damn if they use overhead view, as long as it's damn good!!!!

I have to admit it - I am quite impressed!

I have this on DS and thought it was great, but this version looks so much better!

The lighting, for one thing, is a lot better! Look at the lights on the bridge and the cars!

It looks like we'll be getting tanks and helicopters to play with too (which wasn't included in the DS version)...

Can't wait!

» ok prove to me that it is the highest rated game on

ds. how many sisters/wifes/pre teens would buy GTA?

Well it looks alright I guess. Still not convinced by the view. Didn't enjoy this much on the DS but that's partly the DS itself at fault (I hate using those things). I'd like to try this before I buy it though.

@Mikal_rokz:

Highest rated game does NOT mean most sold DS game. There are plenty of high quality games that sold dismal, not only on DS.

» forgot something....

I predict first week sales to overtake DS overall sales.

» wtf o.0

are they seriously gonna release a sky view (primitive) GTA game for psp, they seriously be smoking something bcuz they released 2 3rd person GTA games and i thought they were both good, what they shouldve done is outshine the DS's version by making a better version of this new one but i still cant believe theyre seriously gonna have the balls to release this for psp

by RetroGamerX3 - 2009-10-08 15:21
» Kool =]

well i think its pretty cool that they ported it to the psp.

im really looking foward to playing this.

...and i think the reason why most people arent really liking this is because they wanted it to be a NDS exclusive. TOO BAD =)

» this is bullshyt

this game is bullshyt and it should have been kept where it belongs,DS......they makin some 2-d bullshyt for a 3-d running system....u n!ggas must be on krakk cuz u *****kin stupid as *****!

» calm down dear

its just a commercial.

» You might appreciate it more if you

played the first bunch of top-down gta games when they were hot. Because back then, that was gta. Oh well, good for us open-minded folks either way. Change is good!

by bbunner2012 - 2009-10-08 17:26
» shoulda stayed on ds

this isnt gonna be a good psp game... if they wanted this to sell on psp they should have redone the game completely and made it from a "behind-the-gun" kind of view and gameplay... this looks like a remake of GTA:II for PS1

by psp2 - 2009-10-08 19:20
» Worst...GTA...EVUR!!!

looks like a mini game

so much wasted talent

by deathmetal - 2009-10-08 19:55
» Wow

You clearly know nothing of what you say. This is 3D, captain.

by hammered - 2009-10-08 20:00
» the view shouldn't be an issue...

UltimaArmorX has a point, if u played GTA 1 and 2 when they were released that top-down view was the best at the time. It might not be a modern technique for GTA at the moment but to see it go back to its roots...wonder if it'll be any good like the originals were, dont be scared of the view, worry bout the gameplay

by hammered - 2009-10-08 20:02
» haha crack up +P

obviously you dnt know the difference between 3D and 2D +P it is 3D, but ur view is top-down...GTA 1 was 2D, this is 3D haha having a spaz bout the Dimensions when there was no worry in the first place +P

by Musev - 2009-10-09 00:08
» ...

The view and controls were the bad things in the first Gta games. imo and Im not someone who played them after playing III +

On the psp, I cant understand why theres a need for it to be like this.

the ds i assumed it was only done that way because of draw distance problems surly the psp can handle it, at least at lcs/vcs levels considering those cities weren't even designed for a handheld let alone the ds

probably couldnt be arsed to make the effort to actually fit the game to the psp and just ported it with some slightly higher res textures and vertex colouring

then again maybe its just an art thing and thats the "character" they want this game to have to make it stand out from the others

....maybe somewhere in between??

"GTA 1 was 2D"

GTA 1 the map was 3d just with 2d sprites for peds vehicles etc you hipocrite

Thanks but no thanks Rockstar. I've already played this on the DS. Still don't get how they're going to emulate the touchscreen stuff, thats what (partly) made the orignal!

Yet the iPhone version won't have standard controls either.

DS. Best of both worlds!

by Acteon - 2009-10-09 03:34
» Hmmm...

The DS version was widely acclaimed, the fact that we're getting (what looks to be) a superior port should be a good thing.

Might be worth a look anyway. Some of my favourite games were top down perspective (Mercs for example).

that looks like worst that the first gta

» What a bunch of kids

Surely the point is they've tailored a very nice version of GTA:CW for the PSP, it looks great, the widescreen will suit the game, cinematic as it is.

The game itself was great on the DS, no reason for it to fail here.

The effects look very nice, the only question for me is how comfortable will the PSPGo controls be?

Perhaps a game better played on the earlier PSP iterations.

Still, the UMD should also give us an even better selection of radio stations and material to listen to, another GTA staple.

I, for one, can't wait for this to be released.

It's be great to see a PS2 version though *fingers crossed*

» sorry..

sorry for the typo i meant looks worst that the first gta

by florinzgtrst - 2009-10-10 02:08
» it's kind of nice

it's not all about graphics and how much you can see, cause

if the game is good, the you wont even care. i, personally like the feel of the sky view camera, just like in the good old gta's. gives a different game play/tone and has a special nostalgic aura. (hope it has a lot of night missions, abandoned warehouses, dark alleys kind of stuff)
