XMB Wave Screensaver - Image 1agentorange has just tipped us off on his latest update for the XMB Wave Screensaver for Windows application he released just yesterday. As we mentioned earlier, this isn't really a homebrew app for the PSP, but because it mimics the handheld's XMB, we thought we should inform you guys about it too.

And based on your responses, it seems a lot of you were really interested and even in awe of agentorange's app! So...he decided to work hard on fixing all the bugs you reported and bring you this updated release.

As for those who are asking whether their Macs will be seeing this screensaver too, here's what agentorange had to say: "Mac or Linux version won't happen any time soon, as this is DirectX dependant (for now). Sorry!" Also, he says he's still trying to figure out how to get this running with the desktop in the background.

So while we wait for that, why don't you update the one you have running on your PC's and get the following fixes and additions:

v0.95:
  • Probably fixed flickering on startup
  • Problems with hiding Mouse Cursor fixed
v0.9:
  • Added Control Panel
  • Color selection, Custom colors
  • Frequency of Colorchange, Background Options
  • Wave Speed, Wave Height
  • Fixed Several smaller Bugs
v0.5:
  • Fixed Bug concerning Multi-Monitors / Widescreens
  • Fixed Timing Errors
To install, all you have to do is (and we quote): Unpack to a directory of your choice then Right-Click "Wave_by_AoR.SCR" and pick "Install."

Update: According to agentorange: "Version 0.95 had a bug preventing it to run on Windows XP only showing a white screen / flickering. This has (hopefully) been fixed in v0.96! Thanks for your feedback and please tell me if you encounter any more bugs!"

learn how to code a simple screen saver. install & test both turn the screen grey and then fade the rest of the screen to a darker color, just like the guy above me posted.

test your apps before posting them, qj

# This doesn't seem to workGuest 2007-02-27 17:28
The first version worked but this one only shows a silver screen until you move your mouse. Then I just see a colored background with waves that don't move. Somehow they are interfereing with the other pages. Hope you get it fixed soon!

Not working, here's what I'm running:

XP MCE, 1920x1200, 32-bit, LCD. The screen turns gray and when returning it shows the waves "left over" until I refresh the screen.

Still, thanks for your work, looking forward to the fixed release :)

Im running Windows XP SP2 and been updated recently...this doesnt work for me. It gives me a grey/tan screen, then when it goes back from the screensaver i can see one of the wave image thing...but it frees there and covers your destop...glitch...btw in vista, could u see it transparent? I have vista but it lags on my computer..not enough ram so i havent tested it out.

# odd...Guest 2007-02-27 17:55
Thats different than whats happening to me. Mine gets to the wave then flickers from the color of the screen saver and white for some reason. It also "paints" my Start bar whatever color it was before I got out of the screen saver. I think I'll stick with the beta one for now...

Same as above, grey screen, shows lines on resume until you hover over something that causes the screen to change.

When i quit (mouse mouse or esc) the waves appear for a second, then go away.

# Works for me on XPGuest 2007-02-27 20:55
Unlike everyone else, this version does work for me, and I am on XP. The last version did not work properly with my dual monitors, but this one does.

This version, however, is really laggy, I'm getting about 10 FPS, and I'm running a 7900GTX, this shouldn't be a problem.

I'm sure the kinks will get worked out though, and this will turn into my main screen saver =).

Good Job.

# XP BUG IS CONFIRMED AND WORKED ONGuest 2007-02-27 23:25
Hi Guys,

i'm really sorry to hear that it doesn't work for most of you. The problem is, as Daniel guessed:

This version only works fine on Windows Vista. My main box is on Vista right now, and thats where i develop & test this app. Sorry but windows XP support is added ASAP. please bear with me while i try to figure out why this doesnt work on XP !

Damn, i was excited to try this version, but when it starts up, it paints the whole screen white and when I move the mouse or press a button, it returns with the wave and the color overlayed over my workspace.. :( Hope this gets fixed, in XP btw. The previous version still works just great!

# 0.96 Doesn't work either... :-(Guest 2007-02-28 05:05
I've just downloaded v0.96 and it does the exact same thing as v0.95 did for me. Grey screen and an error message.

“Failed to initialize Asphyre device!”

“Access violation at address 004843A8 in module ‘WAVE_B~1.SCR’. Read of address 00000000.”

Anyone know how to resolve this in the new version? I'm running XPSP2

Thanks for the hard work. It really gives my pc the "lava lamp" cool factor.

Now the .96 version of this works on windows xp. I just tried it and it is much improved since the first version. The only thing I wish is that it was a desktop background, but your working on that. I hope you get it working as a moving desktop background.
