Really hope this thing won't cost an arm and leg to buy... also hope it's not enormous in-person... I'd like to keep the "portable" idea as something that easily fits in your pocket. Otherwise, this looks extremely promising!! Wonder if Sony listened and made a UMD-to-Digital converter for this yet for current PSP-owners with UMD collections... That might be asking too much out of Sony.

this is a new system, meaning new games... this will play NGP games not PSP1 titles.

There will be no converter. It only works with PSN-released PSP1 titles.

The original PSP cost me £200 when it first came out, so I wouldn't expect anything on the cheap. Best to start saving a little on the side right now.

Oh yeah, GTA LCS was the reason it cost £200. I remember now, it was at Argos. You're right, the console itself was £180.

It will at first for early adopters and gadgetphiles just like every new product does.

But if there is another manufacturer who is better at gradually streamlining production to reduce the end costs to the consumer then Sony, I'd like to hear who it is?!

Maybe/arguably Phillips.

MS's strength isn't improving their process more then flooding the market and absorbing the loss through windows profits.

Nintendo just makes cheaper gimmicks.

The device itself is fricking convincing, now all that matters is the battery life and the price.

"Sony also showed off a two-minute vid that displays the tech and features of their new system"

lol, my ass. all it displayed was cheesy, lame, and embarrassing acting. that aside, I'm glad they ditched the sliding screen idea. This looks pretty nice, and I like the idea of stick-based games. it may not be a disc, but at least it's still physical. hope they release some more news soon.

I can't wait to have my own NGP.

It's gonna be totally awesome.

2 analogue sticks = win!

No UMD? Doesn't matter, the games come in SD Cards which is much better and now they aren't limited any more to 1.80 GB. :-)

This ACTUALLY makes me rethink about getting a new PSP.

I had PSP 1004 for about 1 ½ years but got tired of it because the lack of the good games.

But this is badass!

Price range should be around 249.99-299.99 but im sure sony would give it a ridiculous price of 399 and up

For this beast I pay 500$ if it's that much cause I know
It will keep me going for years to come just like my ps3 has served me. Rather that then a shity device that gets on my nerve. Looking at you Nintendo crapware. Seriously this thing is like 10 times better then 3DS and tons of developer standing in line so I have no doubt it will get awesome games much like ps3.
WANT IT NOWWWWW

I hear the device is going to run Android. If so, it will be dead as of 02/10/11. So Sony, better make some last minute crucial decisions or your new handheld will end up pulling an N-Gage.

Wow I was planning on pre-ordering a 3DS but that new PSP looks pretty sweet. Even though the 3DS has 3D, this OLED display is sharper and the graphics seem to be a big step up from the 3DS hardware. I sure would like to know the price of the new PSP before I decide.

That's what I always try to tell people. I don't understand why people treat buying a gaming device like a marriage. It's especially relevant to the 3DS and the NGP, which cover completely different niches in the market.

He's probably a fanboy who wants to know which is the best side to support. It actually would suck to be on the genuinely fail side of a war.. but wars about console are retarded. Every one has their benefits and their weaknesses. Buy a console because you want it and it appeals to you, not because it has the biggest fanbase.

Well I guess buying a game system can be a big commitment.

Many people can't or don't want to buy a handheld game machine, accessories, and a library of games twice.

Got a problem with that comment, ISO troll boy?

He's got lots of problems in his life and by spending most of it harassing people on this site he must feel better.

He's what people with morals call trash.

His mother is promiscuous as well. Or, was. Good riddance, I say.

I guess we can officially call UMD mini disc v2 to go the way of Mini-Disk from 1991 Sony Dynamic Digital Sound from 1993 The HiFD from 1998 MusicClip from 1999 Super audio CD

Too bad sony didnt put out a recorder so people could put movies and music to umd...

At least sony is succeeding with blu-ray

I've considered it that ever since they trotted it back out.

:-|

The UMD was, and always will be the Achilles heal of the PSP.

(And go figure sony to try to fix it by making it even worse with the go! But water...)

Not Quite blu-ray is being pushed away by streaming movie sites, Hulu and Netflix so its not being adapted as quick as DVD took over, It's actually starting to lose ground.
