Talk to the Feet: Sony's Latest Ad

PSP Feet Ad

This recent Sony PSP print ad is far from controversial compared to that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe ad we reported a few months back. This one, created by Sil Malaysia from Kuala Lumpur, shows how to do sign language with your feet instead of using your hand. The print commercial may seem weird, c'mon what kind of physically normal human being would actually do sign language with their feet right? Maybe someone who just do it for kicks or has a lot of time in their hands or feet... Confused about what this PSP ad is trying to put across?

Scratch your head no more. This interesting piece for the portable console would want to convey that you'll be so enamored and focused in playing with your PSP that you can only communicate through your feet since your hands are tied to the controllers, your eyes are just so glued to the PSP, and your mind is just so engrossed in playing whatever game or homebrew you're into.

Good ad or bad piece of baloney? Whatever you think of it, let us know through the comments section.

that's the gayest ad i've ever seen. Sony should just stop trying to advertise the psp.

Sony should just advertise that the PSP can run PS1 games and see what consumers do

Every single PSP ad I have seen sucks. The *****a squirrels, the europe scandal, others scandals in the subway, and now this.

Maybe they should have stickied with "Live in your world, play in ours."

by Ethan - 2006-09-13 10:30
» I actually like this.

I think it is creative advertising. I mean, what is gonna get more peoples attention? "Live in your world, play in ours" on a black background, or a bunch of feet up on a wall.

by WraithLeader - 2006-09-13 10:36
» Good, but only half baked...

It's creative, but whoever came up with this should have drawn somebody attached to the feet, playing the PSP. It's too abstract. My first thought was "Sony wants me to build dexterity in my feet so I can play my PSP with them?". I'm sorry but whoever is in charge of Sony advertisements seriously needs to get fired, though this ad is oodles better than the Romeo + Juliet, Dustball, Squirrels, and White PSP ads.

The ad means that you are playing psp so your feet are the only things free.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Whoever is in charge of making the ads and commercials ay Sony should just die.

by jaydogg691 - 2006-09-13 11:04
» Meh

It's not good, but it's not bad either. You can tell what Sony is trying to address with the ad and shows how busy you'll be playing PSP. But, it is not adressing what the PSP does for thoes people who don't know. I don't know if there is a language for comunicating with your feat, but if there isn't, it's creatvie for the person doing this. I know Sony can think of something better.

by wekilledbambi03 - 2006-09-13 11:13
» ummmmmm...ok

well i think its dumb. i guess it makes sense but it needs some kinda phrase like "youre hands will be to busy" under it

by Zmaz - 2006-09-13 11:14
» Meh...

The idea itself is OK, and actually kinda interesting, but the ad itself sucks. I mean, I looked at it and thought "Is this one of those funny joke sign things?". I agree with #6, please make them understandable. A lot of the PSP ads take a few seconds to figure them out, which is bad.

And honestly, if I had to learn sign language with my feet to use a PSP, I would want to buy one. XD

(Look at the picture for "D" --- Looks like the foot's flicking you off lol)

by ZeroGiga - 2006-09-13 11:15
» WTF??

Now, if it's female feet, then I might be interested...

But, it's like you guys said, it's crap.

Pure and freakin' simple.

by Snarg - 2006-09-13 11:18
» obvious

I didn't even have to read the article to know what was implied with the ad. Not sure why some people think that it needs explaining to understand.

Regardless, I still think it sucks, but not any worse than many other ads/commercials out there right now, so I guess what I'm saying is that it's on par with the norm.

Lol weird but well done on Sony's part... It's no more lame than any other number of ads out there today, and hey it's something that can at least make you ask WTF... hey maybe it's a tie-in to that new game!!!

--Databoy2k

by LNAtropic 2 - 2006-09-13 11:47
» It's Feet Language.

I think that they're ads are supposed to be out of the ordinary. They want to make you say "wtf?" and then make you want to say "What is this for?" then you see the PSP sign. If you were to see an ad with a PSP on it, you wouldn't really care much or it wouldn't really affect you more than an ad that makes you say "wtf."

I think they spend more time figuring out how to make an ad that is a piece of sh** than figuring out how to make better firmwares.. which is why it's a piece of ***** firmware.

I think its very clever, but a completely stupid idea for an ad. Most people won't get it. They're giving people too much credit, most aren't that intelligent.

by Teggles - 2006-09-13 16:21
» Pathetic

I'm not sure what's wrong with Sony's advertising division. They seem to mix "feet" and "stupidity" with "sales" and "profits". When a person has to think immensly about an ad, it has failed. Wit has to be obvious for it to work. "BUY A PSP NOW" is more effective than this, and I am not exaggerating.

by 7ru - 2006-09-13 17:02
» Brilliant

The goal is to get your attention and keep it. This does that. They don't actually expect you to do this.

Funny, I recall the same reaction from most people when they heard that the offical name of Nintendo's new console was the "Wii"

by henkibojj - 2006-09-13 21:21
» Stupid

That's the most stupid idea of a commercial I've seen for a long time. If they still are going to spend money on ads, why don't they brag about the functions in the PSP? Photo, Music, Video, Games, Internet Browser, RSS and Locationfree? Plus gamesharing, WLAN multiplayer and so on? Who would understand that far-fetched meaning of that stupid commercial?! Stupid. That's what I call it.

by crazymunch - 2006-09-13 21:34
» Weird, but cool

Ok, so the ad is weird, but at least it makes you take a second look. Now all Sony needs to do is mention what the ad means so the less intelligent among us can understand, and it'll be a great ad. Maybe they could put text saying

"With Photo, Music, Video, Games and Built in Wifi, you'll never want to put it down"

That way, it would show off their features, and at the same time make sense

by edlad - 2006-09-14 02:14

my god! I can't believe so many people have a problem with this ad. It catches your attention and then you have to think about what they're implying. Working things out for yourself gives people a satisfied feeling which they then attach to the psp.

PS ad's have always been weird, remember the original Playstation ad's "ENOS" and "U are not E". Same idea: they were puzzles.

It's worked for Sony before, people would be dissappointed with a straightforward ad from them now

So what if your hands are tied to the PSP. Except if you're playing damn NINTENDOGS. Your voice 'll still be free to make clear that you want your mom to make you some damn hot chocolate.

by Welcome - 2006-09-14 07:48

i think its a good add... it makes you go wtf is this, then you see the psp logo. Now when you see feet youll have a slight thought of psp as well.

You tend to remember things that make you go wtf than not. Youll easily pass by normal adds when you have other things on your mind, but a bunch of feet will make even the most absent minded look.

Sony wants the adds to have adhesive affects with their products. Their contriversial adds have alot of shock/wtf value that make people think.

I know i know, people dont like to think, thats why the us government can still govern how it has been for decades now. Punks, Artitsts, Writers, even Homeless people have been trying to get people to think, but tv and advertisement, the things everyone sees, the main mainstream still hands everything to you to keep you placid and stupid for the government.

Best way to keep control? Keep your people stupid and ignorant, manipulate information, and have 'good will' expeditions for a good image while your destroying another contries government to make it better in the US's image....

Sorry i got off track, keep up the ads Sony, they are making people think! ~oh the horror....~

Their PR department just sucks. Miserable PR is already doing massive damage to the PS3 (forgive the annoying tendo-fanboy-esque pun there). And all the ads for the PSP lately have been either annoying (that damn goose commercial with that yelling-mexican-pubic-hair-thing)...I thought that the finger-puppet commercials were kind of funny tho...they should stick with that for now...
