Europe                                                 U.S.

Last month we revealed the boxart for the US version, and today we can bring you the boxart for the European versions. Unusually, there is quite a lot of difference between the 2. In my opinion, the US version looks a lot more appealing to the gaming eye, showing the chaos of the Super Monkey Ball world in the background. The European versions is a bit more subtle, featuring just the Monkey on its own.

Why do they need different boxart for different regions? Sure, there are differences in the rating system, PEGI for Europe and ERSB for the US; but surely there's no need to make the boxart different. It may be that Sega think the European audience would prefer the one on the left, but I'm from the UK (Which the geographers amongst you will know is in Europe), and I prefer the US version because It stands out a lot more. If I was walking into an electronics store, and saw the European version I wouldn't give it a second glance.

First Post. With a good comment.

I love this game and the graphics amaze me as well.

If anyon wants a rolling fun game of puzzles with some storyline, then this is for you.

I prefer different boxarts as some are better than others.

Why do you morons keep saying I GOT FIRST OMFG.

BTW, Oppinions rock, huh? Nice one on posting the pics, but do you really need to impose what you think is better 'because it shows the chaos'.

Never judge a book by its cover.

I'm a British person from England :).

but on a serious note, the US box art rocks alot more the the Euro box; i mean the Euro 1 is all 'lets run around as a monkey and be all serious and do serious monkey missions like throw poo at other monkeys' but the US is more along the lines of, 'PAAAAAAAAAARRRR RRTTTTTAAAAAY!! ! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO P!' plus it show alot more of teh ingame experiences EG the glove and the monkey ball (of coarse)

and final comment :D the US box is brighter and stand out more

I'm Scottish and don't like being called British particularly.

Personally I couldn't give a flying ***** what the case looks like. I don't spend much more than 30 seconds looking at cases.

You think the forums would look better in a cherry blossom pink or a bubblegum pink? *arches his back and flicks his wrist*

The boxart's irrelevant: any serious game-player will buy a game based on reviews, regardless of whether it comes in an "interesting" case or a "bland" case.

In my eyes, both boxarts are completely uninspiring, and were I a less discerning gamer I would pass over both of them, marking them down in my mind as being yet more tat rolled out by companies producing mediocre platformers for the PSP, on the basis *people will buy them anyway*.

*sigh*

There's a lot of rebels like yourself in Belfast. Nomatter how much you moan or complain, put your hand in your pocket and lift out a fiver. See that Queens head? You're British.

Some are claiming this is 1.5 btw..

Unless you've got more money than sense, you do some research before you buy things. Only the blondest of blondes and hairdressers buy cars with no idea what it's like, just because it looks nice. Bit of a jump from £30 to £10k+, but the same principles apply.

I'm not really for independance, but it's like Gordon Brown talking about supporting England at the footy, even though he's Scottish. Total bollocks. Any Scotsman, Northern Irishman or Welshman is going to be supporting the team playing against England and too right. I don't like getting lumped together all the time, that's all. Am I making sense or did I lose the thread?

i never buy games based on reviews because everyone either rates it as "OH MY GODDDDD SOOOO GOOD" or "EW THIS GAME GAVE ME HERPES" i just get what my gut tells me to get.

The box art for these type of titles do need to "stand out".

I mean, it's not like GTA or any bloody violent games that gamers know and love and could careless what the box art looks like. We're talking about "family fun" titles. We're talking about "kid safe" titles.

What's that suppose to mean? Hell, any mom would walk into a video game store and probably the first question they ask is, "What's a fun and safe game for my 10 years old son/daughter to play?" Probably the sales guy would point to one of these titles. Now, the moms know jack crap about video games... the box art is all they got to go after. :) "Ohh, that looks fun! How exciting shooting out of a cannon and HUGE boxing gloves on a spring! I'm sure my son would love this title. Would you mind bag it for me please?"

And well, the second post guy is right. The US box art really cries out "chaotic fun".

Super Monkey is cool.

I already play Super Monkey Ball jr. on my PSP, albeit a tad slow. As I'm on F/W 1.5 using the GBA emulator.

Monkies & F/W 1.5 rule

Please can some dev update the GBA emulator to a quicker speed. An infinite thanks in advance.

# importing issue? entirely unimportant!Guest 2006-05-17 22:52
Could it be that the box art is different for the regions to make it easier for a consumer to tell if it has been imported?

Just a thought, but it isn't really important, as at the end of the day boxart's only a matter of marketing for $ony, and I personally don't care how much money they earn from making the shiny box appealing.
