Hmmm... it seems that Star Trek: Tactical Assault will be speaking a new language, and it's definitely not Klingon.Well, if you're talking about firmware speak, that is. 0okm reported that this game will run on 2.81 firmware, which makes this it the first UMD game to make use of the latest firmware.
Now, the question is: Will it run on DevHook? Let's quote PSP Hacks' take on it:
Although its been reported that many 2.8x titles function fine under DevHook v0.46; this apparently is the first UMD to utilize 2.81-specific PRX modules. “libfont.prx” is the module in question, thus missing fonts if attempted to emulate via DevHook.
Some guys claim that it worked on them, some say it didn't. You can always give it a try, but do so with extreme caution. After all, you don't want to accidentally brick your PSP or anything, right?
Anyway, we're guessing that if you're a hardcore Trekkie or a Trekker, you won't let mere firmware numbers deter you. After all, Bethesda's spaceship shoot 'em up game has been on shelves since last week, so you're probably hooked to it by now.

Wow... Ookm is late on this one. This is so yesterday. The game started floating around yesterday and people started to notice that there's no in-game text. With that said a few people already posted a fix for this to run under 2.71. Someone needs to get the next version of DevHook happening here.... you know who you are. ;P

works fine on 2.71 SE all tho intro is abit choppie not bad rest of game runs smoth.
There was already a fix for this game. The game that nwont work no matter what is that African hunting game or whatever it is.
i dont think we have to worry cause this game looks lame and if you want to buy it well ure probably a sad clown who isnt allowed to buy "M" games or "T" games
That would be Cabalas African Safari Does not work, and "patching" has not been successful so far.
Some of the funnest games are the ones that are rated E (Sonic and Mario just to name a couple) I say any game where you get to blow things up has to be at least a little fun.
Works fine, just get a ripkit from Maxconsole, there is a fix included.
yeah well im more of an fps gamer, so someon tell me an fps that isnt rated "T" or higher
well sony went after the author of dev hook and since then we have not had an update so it wont come as a shocker if there are no more updates. although the program does prove that this concept of firmware emulation is feasable so who know someone may make a new dev hook and will all be happy again.

There is a fix and yes it works....game runs fine with dev hook. Played it already this afternoon.

I'm using DevHook .46 and 2.71 firmware but it says I has to update to 2.81 :? And I also used to patch. Any ideas ?
I bought the game as it came out (yes I am a nerd), dumped an image of the game, patched the game, and it works fine.
Never let anyone think that you're a nerd for buying something that you like. I commend you for actually paying for it. What most people tend to forget is that everyone has different interests, and everyone likes something that others would consider not so cool. You should do things that you enjoy, rather than be a slave to trends. Go hotdogs.
I specifically bought the PSP for the homebrews, so I don't much follow UMD games. However, this makes me wonder something: if I were interested in a game that had a patch like that, where would I go to find out? Someone posted a URL for this particular patch from psp-hacks.com; would that be the place to go to potentially find other patches as well? Thanks.

Replaced fontlib.prx with the one from daxter and the other *.prx with the one from ghosts and goblins and everything worked fine on 2.71 fw.
i cant wait till it is released in the uk,whare i live.i already have fw2.81 but a freind of mine likes star trek too and he can play homebrew on 2.60 and he doesent want to upgrade
Well, I wasn't pertaining to running devhook per se, but tweaking your PSP in general. ^^
in devhook Go to umd sfo version in other and change it to 2.XX to 2.00 it will then work
