1. Sony's NGP - an early look at its software lineup
2. The third party lineup
3. Yakuza 4 and Unreal Tech demo

Want some more NGP stuff? I know you do, so here you go. Fresh from the interwebs comes some leaked footages of the device running some third party titles. From Monster Hunter to MGS 4, and upcoming titles from Epic Games and... Activision's blockbuster series, Call of Duty, it looks like the true PSP successor is out to deliver the goods.

Revealed earlier at Sony's press event in Tokyo, NGP (Next Generation Portable) features:

  • Multi-touch 5-inch organic light emitting display (OLED) as the front display
  • Multi-touch pad on the rear of the device
  • Dual analog sticks
  • Two cameras (front and rear)
  • Software titles on small, dedicated flash memory-based cards
  • Three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass
  • Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity
  • PlayStation Network access, including ““LiveArea”, “Near” and “Activity” log features Trophy Support
  • NGP will be able to play PSP titles, minis, PS one classics, video and comics from the PlayStation Store.

And as we reported a while back, it will be sporting a quad-core Cortex-A9 processor and a quad-core Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX543MP GPU under its hood. But what about it's software lineup?

Since the ngp has ps3 quality games..that probly means that psp pirates will have a pretty tough time; ps3 games take up a hell of a lot of space, so trying to get pirated ps3 games on a handheld will be a no Go lol. smart move SONY

The games are gonna be on flash cards so I doubt that the games are gonna be any bigger than 8GB (remember that it is not "exactly like a PS3", were talking less polys and less detailed textures since it will be played on a 5 inch screen). Large games won't stop piracy... soon enough 60+ GB flash cards will be affordable... and if that tech is affordable enough for sony to sell games on then they will be cheap enough to use to pirate games. I will buy this device and use it exclusively to pirate games :) I will not give Sony another dime for software... and since they are losing money (more times than not) on the hardware, it makes me feel really good that the hardware is all I will need to play sony's software for free. I give it less than a year before this beauty is haxored ;6

PS3 games take up a lot of space mostly because of uncompressed 1080p video, hi-res textures and padding to make it take up more of the Bluray.

With flash cards, publishers can't afford to do any of those things with the sole intention of deterring pirates, because a pirate who's willing to download a game that large obviously wasn't deterred at all, and a pirate who was deterred obviously didn't care enough about the game to begin with.

isnt that ironic since he didnt care enough about the game to pay for it in the first place?

The line I'll draw between this, and the 3ds relies on that sole fact alone. Will it have PS2 backwards compatibility? It may take a while to discover, but until we do I'm $250.00 dollars richer, and perhaps that much closer to affording one of these bad boys.

they can easily assign the touch panel at the back as those buttons when playing the ps2 games

Does the device have pressure sensitive face and shoulder buttons? I've never seen a game where it was needed, but I would miss it.

Looks freaking awesome!!! I can't wait to buy one. They are saying they can easily port PS3 games to this!!! I hope all other PlayStation games become available for this too. I do hope they give us some Fallout and Call Of Duty on this. Awesomeness!!!

IBM Cell /= ARM architecture. I seriously doubt it would be easy to port current games to this new console. What will be easy to port is current ARM games (such as iOS games).

The developers said it would and they demo'd it in the meeting last night with Lost Planet and MGS4 making an appearance as port demos. Now whether they port cleanly is another story. Lost Planet looked not so good while MGS4 looked great.

I think current-gen devs have gotten the hang of porting games between different hardware platforms, given the sheer number of multiplats there are. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if it came with a lithium ion battery but running a quad anything will drink up some fierce amount of battery no matter how you cut it but this is where they should have been about 2 years ago when it was first possible but in this game there's no such thing as better-late-than-never. they need to step up if they want developers to keep with the system.

There's my 2 cents, later all.

I sure would like to see PS2 support.

But since thats not even happening on the PS3, I guess I dont expect Sony to be the one to supply it.

I'm fairly certain it will not be called the PSP2 (instead something like NGP) because of this:

Basically, sony released three iterations of one generation of psp: PSP, PSP Slim, PSP 3000, PSP GO. So, if dumb customers saw PSP2, they would, most likely, assume it is another iteration of the same handheld, rather than an entirely new device.

I know PS1, PS2, PS3, but they never had the re-releases like the original PSP.

the ngp will first retail around $300 or more. sony consoles are never cheap at launch.

sony has said that the ngp does 720p and not 1080p.

the ngp will hit japan first at launch and then it will make its way to the states.

ngp games will be downloadable instead of being distributed in physical media.

no the ngp will not be that easily hacked either.

what the hell are you talking about?

it will be at least $350 USD
yes the NGP will hit japan first then trickle through the rest of the world
NGP games are on cartrages AND dowlnoadable
yeah, the NGP wont be easy, as sony has learned from its mistakes... kinda lol. as always, NGP OFW V1 will be buggy as hell hopefully!!!
