2GB+ flash is so cheap now.
Flash media also has benefits of faster read speeds and lower battery consumption. It also would be a smaller device than a UMD drive.
Sony knew that it would be foolish to have games that required online to download. They had to choose between flash or Disc base.

2) Being based on open source software =/= lack of security. That's a fallacious way of thinking if you really take a look at the details.

Flash Cards are nice because that means games can be big without any sort of size limitation.
Sony actually listened to the fans.

This.
And I sure wasn't expecting it either.
What a pleasant surprise.

But there's nothing wrong with that.
Ipods also tend to look like Ipods.
Those specs and solid state game media are the real sexy time, and thats what really counts.
Methinks Sony may have just peeped their heads out of their asses for a sec like groundhogs day.
*Whew, what a relief*

I wonder how much it'll cost.

Well I had also expected the PSP2 to look a little different, I actually kind of liked the improved Go looking thing we saw.
But as far as 3 consoles with the same controller, I suspect that may have something to do with the PS controller still being the best one on the market ever since its introduction!
Xbox controller were hideous when they first came out, then became less/smaller hideous. Gamecube was smart and just copied the PS design, (but in candy colors of course).
Thank god Sony didn't try to get smart ass and foist that batarang thing on us. That would have been a mistake.
Change to a damn near perfect thing just for arbitrary changes sake isn't just by its nature a good thing.
I suspect that has been one of the fatal design theories that has made such a mess out of FF these days.
I agree that the design could have been more attention grabbing, but I'm still a bigger fan of function over gimmickry.

You need to make a youtube video of you trying to play a Go IMO.
It'll go viral.
Luckily for the hand,
uh... "endowed",
Pelican and the like make some pretty snazzy and beefier alternatives.
I've got a pretty cool pelican aftermarket for my ps2 thats bigger, rubberized, wireless, and has tilt.
Although the tilt ended being more trouble in actual use IMO.
And I also noticed that the PS controller has become an identifiable "image".
I suspect thats also what they're attempting to apply here.
They probably should have put a bit of chrome on it or something though to make it more obviously "next-gen".

Other than personal choice factors like size, its just the most logical and smartest general shape/design of them all.

But its a trade off.
Although you may get nicks and scratches into the glass of a PSP, they are usually not very noticeable unless you unusually abuse them.
And anybody that abusive would pretty much trash anything!
The mechanics of a clamshell screen would fold under that much abusive just as quickly!
Nintendo makes up for that with a cheaper to manufacture system.
IE: cheaper to replace.
(Or: Apples and Oranges.)

Lol sure hope they dont pull that one again. It is a very sexy ass beast of a machine that looks like it can easily retail over 300. The inclusion of the 2nd analog(FINALLY! ) and PS3-like graphics is an instabuy for me.
