Sony teases "exciting PSP plans" for Europe

Despite the announcement of the NGP, Sony insists that the Next Generation Portable and the PSP can coexist. True enough, even with a more powerful successor on the way, the PSP is still getting some love from its makers. In fact, SCEE teases that they have "exciting PSP plans" for Europe throughout the year.

Unfortunately, they're not getting into the specifics of these "exciting" plans. Asked whether or not they'll follow what SCEA has done, a spokesperson told CVG that, "We have nothing to say at this time regarding the price of PSP within the SCEE region. PSP has been performing particularly well in Europe so far this year and we look forward to sharing some exciting plans that we have for PSP throughout the year."

Just recently, Sony gave the PSP-3000 a price drop in North America, bringing the handheld's price point down to just US$ 129.99. This new offer is also accompanied by new titles on the discount line. You can get Dissidia: Final Fantasy, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and others for just US$ 19.99 through the Greatest Hits line. For the Favorites selection, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs: Fire Team Bravo, and a few other titles have been marked down to just US$ 9.99.

SCEE hasn't made any such announcement for their end. It's possible that their plans for their region may intersect with what SCEA has done, and perhaps go further. They did say "throughout the year," so that would probably involve more than just a bunch of price updates in one go. The "exciting plans" will be carried out in preparation for the launch of the NGP, which is expected arrive in at least one territory in 2011.

The announcement for Europe is probably PSP drop price.

$129.99 converted to pounds is £79.92 but it'll end up costing about £100.00 or so.

I wish it'd really cost £79,92 (around this price) and not £100,00 but it's due to extra charges.

i bet they're gonna have a price drop of their own as well, but not the directly converted price from the US. but i do hope these "exciting plans" are indeed worth looking more into

Thank you for going back to single paged articles, I will now stop going out of my way to link to the source instead of you guys when I repost it elsewhere.

Now you just need to stop forcing the editors to make garbage replies to EVERY single article they post even when they dont have anything to contribute.

their definition of exciting and mine tend to differ, although I'm hopeful.

Who said it would actually run PS3 games?
Maybe ported versions but not direct.

All I heard was it had the power of a PS3.

Not even. Graphically games look comparable to it, using various techniques, but you need to account the screensize/resolution etc.

If it had the power of an actual power of a PS3, the ps3 slim would be the size of a wii.

OtherOS, that'd be a waste of time on a portable without a keyboard and usb ports for a mouse.

Just be happy that it does what portable gaming consoles did well in the 90's; play games.

I think the lower screensize and res is how it can compare graphically.

haven't you heard of bluetooth keyboard and mice? the best thing that can happen to NGP is to have a virtual machine emulator. just imagine Windows XP on this. i mean the scene ran Windows 95 on psp, XP would fly on NGP. and that's the way to a portable San Andreas :D

PS3 Slim didn't come with OtherOS, so it was a matter of time before Sony officially removed from all PS3's.

OtherOS on NGP? Very very unlikely, Sony will try hard to keep it "hack-proof", but we know it won't last long secured.

that's why i think people should just jump on the first gen! the hardware+firmwa re it will be full of holes, eventually exploitable, but they will get covered in later revisions.

gtfo troll. The NGP probably has the ability to play the lesser resource using ones and why would it have OOS when it is Sony you are talking about?
Back on subject, I get the feeling that the exciting plans might include a price drop for PSP-Gos and probably something to do with PSN.

The way Sony is behaving lately, the only exciting thing that comes to my mind is that they send the police to your house at night, waking you up to check if your psp isn't running custom firmware...
