Sony shoots down PSP 2 rumors |
Listed in: PSP Tags: gamescom 2010, news, psp 2, Sony

Sony has once again shot down rumors that a new PSP is in the works. Following earlier reports that the Japanese electronics giant has already started demoing the next iteration of its handheld to select developers at Gamescom, the company issued a statement regarding the matter, saying it has "nothing to announce at the moment." According to the company's Europe Worldwide Studios boss Michael Denny:
"We don't have anything to announce and nor are we giving anything away if we say we're always looking at the future as well. For now, we're still concentrating on the PSP as a very attractive proposition. It's natural that in the lifecycle of a platform as the cost comes down they do skew younger and we're having a lot of success with the more child-friendly products on the PSP and it's certainly a great proposition to buy in on, and the PSP has life left in it yet. It was our first attempt at a handheld and with 60 million units-plus, I think it's been a great success for us."
So I guess well have to wait then.

How many people who plan to buy a PSP would hesitate if they knew for a fact that a successor was around the corner?
That would hurt sales.

I mean.. consoles are CONSTANTLY in development, even when another one just came out and is all the rage.

You've abandoned the PSP. We've had E3 and Gamescon and no PSP news. We've had limited PSP stock in the UK for 4 months now. Your adverts are terrible, you don't even display them in the UK. You weekly PSN updates are laughable, why do you have all this content from all different publishers right at your feet but you do nothing with it? This applies to both PS1 and PSP download titles. You say the iPhone is your "enemy of the future" yet you are doing nothing to compete with it, even the new DS has been announced and there is absolutely no retaliation from you guys.
I honestly don't think Sony realises that we need some PSP2 rumours. We need a hint that our next generation handheld 1) exists and 2) will be competitive. I'm losing faith in these guys. I just want to bang my head on the wall calling for some PSP2 news so we don't have to rely on rumours that are shot down the moment they're posted.
Get a fucking grip Sony. Get the PSP2 announced. Get everyone excited.
It's like with religion. Smart people can only go so far before they question God, if God has done nothing to employ faith then wtf, we don't believe anymore. Similar thing here. You can't expect people to blindly follow if there is nothing to follow.

We need more games and support.
PSP is only a year older than the PS3 and still the best handheld on the market.
We dont even know whether the new nintendo will be worth a damn more then another limp gimmicky mario/pokemon platform yet.

That's right, if Sony were to continue a new PSP lineup, they would discontinue the older PSP Models to 1)"Stop Piracy" and
2)To force you to re-buy some of their games(for example, the PSP GO).
Also rest assured, if Sony EVER creates a "PSP Phone," they'll program the gadget to "update" itself through the wireless network they'll supply you, that way, you won't be able to hack or add CFW to your PSP.
