Sony Pulls 'those" Ads |
Ó

Yeah, I know you're probably groaning at the thought that this ad's in the news again, trust me, I hate seeing this image just as much as you do, but seeing as how there have been some new developments, and I initially reported on the story, and then followed through on it, I felt it only right to take the story full circle.
Game Politics is reporting that Sony has issued an official statement in regards to the whole sordid affair that reads thus:
"We... recognize that people have a wide variety of perceptions about such imagery and we wish to apologize to those who perceived the advert differently to that intended. In future, we will apply greater sensitivity in our selection of campaign imagery, and will take due account of the increasingly global reach of such local adverts, and their potential impact in other countries."
It's kind of hard to write this article since quite frankly, I couldn't care less about the issue any more, and I don't think gamers in general really should either. I still stand by my decision that it was a silly move by Sony, and one whose consequences they must surely have been aware of, yet they continued down that path just to get some cheap coverage by wrongly manipulating public sentiment. My initial posts were not intended to brand Sony racist, and despite the fact that I seem to have been branded a knee jerk reactionary by the multitude of commenter's in both earlier articles, that isn't the case, at least I don't think so. The idea was simply to point out the low depths that Sony had apparently sunk to in order to grab peoples attention, a message that seemed to be largely ignored.
Oddly enough, at the end of the day Sony wins anyway, the ad has now been seen not only in its source country of the Netherlands, but all over the internet, drawing attention even from the NAACP, whose San Jose chapter President, Rick Callender remarked:
"Sony has done the honorable thing by owning up to the fact that communication and ads in today's global market have a much further reach than in the past, said Callender. "Their attempt to contrast colors clearly created controversy and sparked painful feelings in the global community. Hopefully in the future, Sony will employ a better litmus test to their ad campaigns to determine if they will be sour to the taste of worldwide consumers. I commend them for their actions."
Whether you agree with Sony on this one or not, it's pretty clear that now's a good time to sweep this one under the rug, no harm no foul right?

Cool!
this is great
Awesome, no one cares lol... what a waste of an article.
oh yeah btw how dose sony getting their ads percieved as racist=sony makeing more money
Backing down and pulling the ads just feeds the political correct brigade. I see nothing racist about the ads. All I see is two pretty women having a batch fight. There is absolutly no racist element to the ads. Why do people make things out to more than what they really are. Can you honestly believe sony thought, "hey lets show how good the white psp is by having a poster compaign of a white woman degrading a black woman" C'mon people get real. Yes the ad features a black and white woman, but does that automatically make it racist? No! People are just too afraid in todays world of being called a racist.
does anyone have the manual for metal gear solid digital graphic novel.
Ewwww. A black person touching a white person.
If you look the black person is not touching a white person, only holding her shirt. In reality the white person is touching the black person. All I can say is it looks like a porno.
WTF!!!! ur so dumb, why u hating??? Christopher C, ur suck a flucking knee jerker!!!
I wish I could walk up to sony's PR guy, look him in the eye, and say one thing... "dumbass"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtW1vedZeUU This is forreal. Email me at lilkoolaznboy89@yahoo.com if you want details on how to do this
quite frankly i think that Sony did something smart. Regardless of Chris C.'s opinion (most writers here seem to be either biased or idiots) Sony is a company, and need to make money, this form of advertisement may not seem "moral" but I, Sony, and many other people DONT CARE!!! Morality, just as racism, is dependant of the kind of person you are, if you think these ads are racist, then that is your problem. I would expect this thing from the government, but not from inteligent (I use that term very loosely), thinking people. Nitpickers and idiots like the ones Sony are talking about should keep their thoughts to themselves and let others prosper from their ability to use their brains.
Whatever happened to FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION? I think these are neat, controversy is the best advertising scheme. Too bad that backward thinking people have made the decission in this case. If only they hadn't of portrayed anger, then it would have been fine. IMO
anyone who says that these ads are rascist if retarded, you are making it something that its not. I completely agree with vibez, just because it features one light complected person and one dark complected person means nothing. does having a white person and a black person in the same image automatically make it rascist now-a-days? its only when people stop calling things like this rascist that rascism will cease to exist
Everybody remember the Wii? Of course you do, and when Nintendo renamed their console to such a stupid thing, it was all people could talk about online in video game circles for days, and even still continues to be a hot issue. Now Sony has gotten the same advertising, and by running a few small ads in small places that were deemed "controversial" they get free press worth millions. Imaging for a second how much it would have cost Sony to put ads out that equalled how much noticing and talking that already happened. Yeah, but nobody sees that, they simply prefer to think of it as a mistake, something in itself that is a big mistake.
I actually liked the ads. But I swear they look more sexual than racist.
if anyone looks at these images and thinks they are racist...then they themselves are racist...why would pick out the black woman and say 'oh no she's being touched by a white woman'... thats just stupid...for picking out the difference that there is a difference in colour, and think that as a bad thing..that is racist..im white, but im pretty sure blacks dont want to be thought of as 'different' and for people to pick out the fact that a white seems to be dominating a black (as the images show) ..people just drop it, its a bloody pic..this ***** pisses me off..just like the ***** about 'bah bah black sheep'..here in the UK you can no longer sing bah bah black sheep...its totaly *****ed...and the people who start all this ***** are whites..it makes no sense. there are other pics where the black woman is shown to dominate the white woman..i dont here anyone complain about that?! or call tht image racist...this whole situation is stupid...Sony did nothing wrong and shouldnt have appologised..theres ads, and photography was great
i agree. this isnt racist, but just can be quickly thought that by close-minded people or people who dont think alot about it before making judgements
NOTHING FREE
Sorry finally admits they are wrong, this appology is long overdue. Had they appologized from the begining, things wouldn't have escalated as far as it did. I hope Sorry learned from this experience, atleast I hope. If anyone doesn't see the racist undertones of those ads, then that person needs serious help. Ignorancem et non nominem excusat : Ignorance is NOT an excuse.
You realize Sony is being ***** whipped due to all this listening to consumers and shizit.... People seriously need to chill... society is changing, the ad portrays that... no one wants to say what cheap move Sony is making by putting out these ads cause the pictures are interepreted as something blown way out of proportion... for you bloggers, can you not input too much opinion for people that just want to hear the news? All this rimstain about "we only report the news!!!1!111!1one" and yet you guys put in your own ideas to influence the reader in some way, seriously just make the report don't add YOUR opinions, ya dig?
jesussss as they put it at ctrl+alt+del "if you stop making a big deal about race it stops being a big deal." it's two people.. why do you see them as different people? sony got the press they wanted, didn't they? you are all tools. imagine if this wasn't an advertisment but mearly a photo, for say.. an art gallery. mearly a piece of art.. i don't think anyone would think of it as bad, i don't get why though? "oh no its racist, the woman is dominating".. in the other image the black woman is dominating, what is your point? anyway, i want to know if any other images, other than the 3 or 4 shown before have been released and/or are available anywhere? i am doing a 5000 word media essay on this because it's caused so much bother. i'd like to see some of the other 100 said images so i could portray all angles.
I have lost faith in humanity, we no longer deserve to be the ones to rule this planet. I'm off to teach the sloths how to fight and overthrow our pitiful governments who are too concerned with crap like this to do their jobs...
Why is everybody gettin' so pissed over it, calling it racist? As far as i can tell, it's to hot chicks fighting. I'm I the only one who see's this a a very sexy ad? To hot chicks...in tight clothing...wrestling...oh yeah.... Oh, uh, back to the the main issue. It's not racist. If you believe it's racist, then you are racist for reasons explained in just about every smart persons post above. You may also find examples of why you may be a racist, written by silly fools just like you! Seriosuly people, chill. It's all cool. Now, back to those two chicks. doesn't it look like their about to make out...
What the f***? First of all : the way this news has been reported was abysmal. Completely biased articles enrichened with anecdotal evidence from family members... *barf* Secondly : I am black. I like this ad. There are others who don't like it - that's their deal. Why should those who dislike it determine whether it should be shown or not? Why is the media not allowed to point out differences? There are black and white people. there are black and white psps - why not make the connection?? It also seems to me that it's only americans complaining (I'm french btw). this ad was _not_ intended for the US.
Who gives a *****! Report some real *****ing news about games.
No just kidding, but be more sensitive to social issues next time, you big stupid company.
Everyone needs to quit being dumbasses. It's just a damn picture of two ladies fighting that represent PSP colors. I see no racist anything about it. As far as I'm concerned its telling you your PSP is so damn awesome it'll beat the ***** outa other PSPs. And if you consider it racist, well what about children eh? This could considered bondage or some weird ***** like that too, but it's not it's just a damn picture. Get over it you *****s.
It's obvious that anyone who knows nothing about about the PSP (one black and one white) are the ones that are offended by these ads. If you have any knowledge at all about what is going on in the scene chances are you see right through the ads to what they really mean. In my eyes those complaining should investigate what the real meaning is before they open their bigs mouths and start *****ing just to start a fight.
As the article states, "Either way, Sony wins"
quote: It's kind of hard to write this article since quite frankly, I couldn't care less about the issue any more, and I don't think gamers in general really should either. I still stand by my decision that it was a silly move by Sony, and one whose consequences they must surely have been aware of, yet they continued down that path just to get some cheap coverage by wrongly manipulating public sentiment. The idea was simply to point out the low depths that Sony had apparently sunk to in order to grab peoples attention, a message that seemed to be largely ignored. end quote so if this is how you feel.....WHY THE HELL DID YOU BOTHER WRITING 3 ARTICLES ON IT WHEN NOONE SHOULD (AND DOESNT) CARE
You know, the really *sad* thing isn't about the race of the models, it's the fact that the woman of your choice (representing the psp) can be purchased for a mere $250 (or whatever it's at now). What message do you think that sends girls that we *want* to be interested in gaming?
who cares. enough already
Sony should've left the ads up. It's not their fault that some people are too ***** to not overreact to a white woman grabbing a black woman. Or vice versa.
The women are representations, not the real thing. Get educated. It's also more of a representation of beauty then price. If it was a representation of price, then why didn't they give you a price tag? The price wasn't mentioned. Why? Because that wasn't the point. Stop dissing these ads, their really nice, and get the message out that the psp is beautiful, like women, yet tough enough to take on another psp. :P
Is that why I never see Tab Clear anymore in england? Because some over sensitive idiots made a big deal of the fact that a white, well colourless, cola had been made? These articles are a joke, and its a joke that sony have had to take their ads down, its PC gone mad
why would they do that, thats bullship why is the world so damn politically correct when really inside no one really cares. sony pr people need to grow some balls i mean they're getting scared because or loco roco and all that whatever im black i don't mind i wasn't around when this was happening this white guy next to me didn't enslave my peoples damn forgive and move on *****.
Agreed. Compare some ads that look like they promote nudity. Not suitable for children, right? But really it's not promoting any form of sexual intensions. Now stop making a big deal out of these kind of problems.
A-MEN to numbuh 5!
Did anyone notice that the white woman with the blond poofy hair that was grabbing the black womans face (the same one whos shirt was being grabbed by the black woman in the 1st picture) was wearing an upside down cross? I am not religious or anything but this seems to have satanic as well racist/elitist undertones.
Imagine of the poster was vice versa and the black woman was holding the white woman..would it be racist than??
I haevn't seen these ads until now and it looks like I still haven't seen the whole thing (just the two pics above). I'm guessing Sony was trying to make a point about the white PSP and it just came out wrong. It's very annoying how everyone is on Sony's case now and they're looking for things to be mad about.
Sigh, Sony being bullied around by oversensitive people that the ad wasn't even intended for. Companies should NOT have to worry about "increasingly global reach of such local adverts, and their potential impact in other countries." This is just "justifying" people's assumptions that everything is racist. One thing that does show a sign of improvement are the many comments on previous posts that agreed the ads were not racist. Oh and the author of this article said "I hate seeing this image just as much as you do" when many comments previously stated that the ads were well done and the photographer did a good job. Many of us are only tireing of the image because of Cristopher C. continually calling it racist (or if not 'calling it' racist directly, implying it to say the least).
You think Sony is stupid? They obviously knew the advertisement would be percieved as racist, and so they released it to stir up contraversy, which in turn unintentially brings more attention to the Sony PSP.
As for all of you who keep saying "Oh why do you notice the color of the person?" THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THE ADVERTIZEMENT! That one woman is white, and she is advertizing the white PSP by slapping a Black woman. How can you not notice the nationality of the person? It's not suprising that it's only white people and "house negros" who pretend to be "color-blind," when in reality they are just looking for an excuse to reincorce the oppression of Black people.
lol, what's more important - black will kick white ass XD
This whole thing is pretty silly. I think the fact that Sony went and used our naturally contrasting skin colors for design a sign that we're PAST this racism business. Really, you take things too seriously. I mean, there are just as many images of the guy beating up the girl.
This adverts are just cool, i think that people who thinks that this is racism are racists themselves....im a proffesional of photography and this photos are nearly perfect...and i think that show clearly the fight between black and white psp`s.....i just see two psp´s not a white woman and a white woman fighting....do i have to go to the psycologist? i think you have to....everything i see now is that people dont have anything to do, just say that adverts are racists, films for kids convert people to gay(im talking about shrek 2) you people have a big mess in your brain...this is so pity.
That chick looks like something out of the 80's...
somone is holding poop in thier mouth...
Its funny how the one with the black woman winning isnt classed as racist, As I see it neither are and i dont think the OP shoud post "I hate seeing this image just as much as you do" I personaly like the add's. Its not my fault the world is full of morons who interpret everything incorrectly
20. » Finally Sorry finally admits they are wrong, this appology is long overdue. YOU sir are the problem. NOT Sony. Its not Sony's fault you have a HUGE problem with YOUR color. Get over yourself already! Oh sorry......didnt mean to opress you "brotha"
This is not racist. Lynching a black person is racist. For gods sakes its an add. Get over it. If you think this is racist. Go jump off a bridge.
Guys, just because you are not offended by these ads, doesn't mean the ads are not offensive or that those complaining about them have no right to do so. #54 you use the 'race card' comment, but that is exactly what Sony were doing with that ad. They knew what they were doing, so stop acting as if people are being over sensitive to an innocent ad campaign from Sony. If an ad depicts one group against another, such as men vs women, or Nazis vs Jews, or abled vs disabled, or gay vs straight etc, then such an ad runs the risk of causing offense, just like this ad from Sony. It's the same thing. Benetton used similar techniques in the past, producing controversial ads which they knew would be offensive to some, but with the knowledge that if it grabbed the headlines in newspapers and TV, then it would reach out to a wider audience. Once the message gets across, they can then apologise for the ad saying they didn't mean to offend anyone. This ad from Sony is no different.
Sony = evil for approving that ad. Not cool at all. Take time to reavulate yourselves if you liked that ad.
That's a bit strong joe. ;) There're not evil, they're just using a tried and tested advertising technique, where Controversy = Publicity.
you are the reason why people from different nationalities can't get along. Lets face it, black people are not the only race to get pushed around and enslaved by other races or countries, so get over it. When I am face to face with another person of a different color I give them the benefit of being treating like an equal. This whole issue is bulls*** , and either way, Sony wins
I think that anyone who has/had a problem with this AD has a stick up their butt. The AD was OBVIOUSLY balanced. Both side where getting a beat down from the other WHICH PORTRAYS EQUALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone that can't see that is ignorant!
This is not discrimination, this is advertising. The goal of which is to make something memorable that sticks in peoples's heads. If it was descrimination, they'd have the white hooded KKK member hanging the black man/woman (whatever that person is) saying white is better. Even if it was, everyone gets descriminated against get over it. Unattractive people, fat people, retarded people, poor people, it's all discrimination and they don't whine, *****, and complain about it. I think it's an excuse for a black person's problems. It's because the white man puts me down! Often it's harder for a qualified white man to get a good job at many large companies thanks to affirmative action. I applied at GM and learned I was among hundreds of applicants there was no chance to get a job- unless I was a minority. Law enforcment is the only thing in the US that's racist. Guess what there's a lot more racism in other countries than here. Here it's just such a big deal people are afraid to say anything anymore even if it has nothing to do with racism. Grow a brain and think before you accuse!
nocomment
As a white man if you do not know the implications of institutionalized racism. Heck, I know you and your friends are not bigots. Yet you are given opportunities that are from the cause of racism. Yes, there is affirmative action. You yourself have shown #61 that we are so low that our morality has to be controlled by government made law. So you lost the opportunity to a GM job ok but if there was no law to help the minority, would you not have the job? Why was affirmative action instituted for? As a man who is not balck I know that I benefit from racism in this world. I in no way deny it. Also as a man who is not black I know that as I was younger I had the PRIVELEGE of not having so much as to investigate in the matter or care because I thought it did not affect me or that the people who complained have just as much opportunity.
Since this topic has gone to hell I figured I would inject a few points to ponder: 1. I am 50% German and 50% Hungarian. To look at me I look like your average white guy. But am I? When I enter conversations like this I have been accused in the past to of had ancestors that ENSLAVED the BLACK PEOPLE. BullCrap! Don't include me in that BS! My families weren't even in this country over 100 years ago. So I ask you...what am I? When I fill out a form the only option for me to check is either white or Caucasian. I say I'm 100% light skinned American which makes me WHITE! As for the slavery thing...you can kiss my white a$$! Since I'm not white in the slave sense do I qualify for the "United Negro College Fund"??? Or is that for blacks only? Wait...can I start a United White College Fund? I'm pretty sure not a single institution in the US today is allowed to accept whites but not blacks. Hum.... so why is blacks but not whites ok? Where is the: United Hispanic College Fund United Chinese College Fund United Japanese College Fund United German College Fund United Hungarian College Fund United.................................. I think I can stop now Black history month? Where is: White history month? Hispanic history month? Chinese history month? Japanese history month? German history month? Hungarian history month? ................................ I think I can stop now. I once heard the argument...every month is white history month....BullCrap! I was class of 94 in SoCal and we leaned ALL history. My school REJECTED the concept of black history month because we already covered it! So we have: Black History Month and United Negro College Fund...there where others but I forget at this moment. Seems to me the black community does NOT want equality. They single themselves out more then any other nationality. If they want equality then they need to knock it off!!!! Don't take it from this white guy, take it from some black community members as well. One quick example BILL COSBY. These are all HIS WORDS!!!!....and you thought they where mine :) Check this out...as soon as Bill Cosby started to publicly communicate his view (more wide spread then usual) BLAMMO!!!!!!!!!!! he was falsely accused of rape. Figures! Hung by his own community. Don't even get me started on the whole "African American" crap either. At the very LEAST it should be American African. So call me American German Hungarian. Gee how STUPID is that???
your all forgeting were not supposed to care about this
"The AD was OBVIOUSLY balanced. Both side where getting a beat down from the other WHICH PORTRAYS EQUALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Except, both ads do not appear side by side, so of course people are going to react depending on which ad they SEE. As I said already (in #56), it's no point looking at these ads and pretending not to see why it may cause offense to others, because rightly or wrongly, justified or not, the content was always likely to offend. Whenever you put one group against another, you are likely to offend people. I mentioned a few groups already in #56, others could include 'Muslims vs Christians', 'Americans vs Asians', 'Capitalists vs Communists', 'Germans vs British' etc. Can you imagine the response to a Christian vs Muslim ad in today's political climate? It doesn't matter if both sides are represented equally, offense will be caused by atleast one of the ads. This ad is deliberately controversial and therefore likely to offend as I explained in #56. It's a method of advertising which, if used correctly, can often be very effective. Personally, I do not like such manipulative ad campaigns. :|
@66 "offense will be caused by atleast one of the ads" That's THOSE peoples problem. To hell with them. How many people did this offend versus how many it didn't offend? You will ALWAYS hear from people that have something to gripe about more then the other. Life shouldn't be this hard and to those that make it this hard... FACK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"That's THOSE peoples problem. To hell with them." I see, so of all the groups I've mentioned above (and much more), anyone who is offended are the one's with a problem, regardless of what is said and done. R-i-g-h-t! In otherwords, you can say and do whatever you like, no-one has the right to complain. Hmmm. In future, you may find yourself to be one of 'THOSE peoples' who are offended by something in an ad. :| "Life shouldn't be this hard and to those that make it this hard..." You should always be considerate about the feelings of others. Doing so doesn't make life hard, if anything, it makes life easier, especially in the long term.
so apparently people of different races aren't allowed to fight eachother any more because it's considered to be racist there's something very wrong here...
@68 I NEVER SAID they didn't have the right to complain. They can complain all they want. Then all Sony has to do is explain themselves fully and correct themselves in making sure EVERYONE sees ALL the ADs. "You should always be considerate about the feelings of others." Yes you should, however this AD is not inconsiderate. As it's already been proven, anyone who finds this AD inconsiderate or racist is either an idiot, ignorant or just plain stupid...they can take their pick. Let's use another example: If Sony has to stop displaying this AD then every single Christian in the entire world has the RIGHT to rip off any Darwin symbol that uses the Christian fish thingy they see on any car or any other surface. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! Just because something offends you doesn't mean the other person doesn't have the right to display it. So right off the bat your whole liberal offense campain is shot to hell. Why aren't other situations attacked just like this one? A movie came out recently, the only AD for the movie is an upside down cross and 666 displayed across it. How many people do you think that offended? Yet the AD remained up for months. The only reasons Sony is being attacked as vigorously as they are: 1. They're Sony! 2. Because even today NO ONE EVER is allowed to associate any negativity towards the black community EVEN IF equal negativity is being associated with the white community (or any other). Had a new BROWN PSP been released with the same ADs (hispanic instead of black) everyone would be LAUGHING and there wouldn't be an issue. And THAT MY FRIEND is the facked up part about this.
Shut up and stop acting like your opinion is so godd**m important. It isn't. What? Do you seem to somehow want to give the impression that these ads were pulled becuase of YOU? Or becuase you're some, snotty, stuck up moron who apparently likes to whine and complain about the rights that advertisers have to produce ads like this. Just becuase tools like you have overactive imaginations that screams "OMG RACIST!" when you're apparently looking way too hard at something, and getting something out of it that wasn't intended. Also... what harm do these ads do to you? I mean BESIDES your pathetic sense of self decency that shouldn't mean a damn thing to anyone else but you? I wrote in your last "article", pretty much laying it down the way it was and giving you more than a large slice of humble pie, but it appears you havn't learned anything at all. You're exactly the kind of puke that goes around censoring and destroying the right for people to have the freedom of expression without your prudish, and overblown, exaggerated self-importantce dictating the life and the choises of everyone else. In short, you are shaping up to have a very good future in politics. So congradulations on being a selfish, self centered ***hole. P.S: If you really didn't want to make this article, and want to "sweep it under the rug" then why did you write it? I'll tell you why. You wanted to get in one more shot at whining and drawing attention to yourself. You're pathetic, and a tool, and you know this just as well as I do. Go kill yourself before you end up getting elected to congress, you selfish, self-centered, know-nothing, censoring, pig****er. It is, people like you that personify EXACTLY what is wrong with the world today. So, it is my sincerest hope that either you shut the hell up or blow your own brains out before your stupidity and ignorance gets spread to too many other people.
seems as if the people who want this ad to stay up are know that this ad is racist and offensive. The reason want it to stay up is becuase they are racist and want sony to continue advertising messages of white supremacy. Don't be fooled by people saying its some artistic masterpiece, they are really just KKK members behind masks. Otherwise, no one should care if sony wants to pull these ads or not.
"I NEVER SAID they didn't have the right to complain. They can complain all they want." Then don't get so angry over their right to complain. "Then all Sony has to do is explain themselves fully and correct themselves in making sure EVERYONE sees ALL the ADs." Which goes back to the point I was making about deliberate controversity followed by apology. "Yes you should, however this AD is not inconsiderate. As it's already been proven, anyone who finds this AD inconsiderate or racist is either an idiot, ignorant or just plain stupid...they can take their pick." This ad is inconsiderate, and deliberately so (as I've already expalined). As nothing has been proven because it's just opinion, hence people having different opinions to your own doesn't make them idiots or stupid. "Just because something offends you doesn't mean the other person doesn't have the right to display it. So right off the bat your whole liberal offense campain is shot to hell." Except I didn't say they didn't have the right, I said they should be considerate to the feelings of others. To repeat what I said earlier, Sony KNEW this ad was controversial because that was the purpose of using it. To suggest that Sony didn't know it was likely to cause offense is rather naive. "The only reasons Sony is being attacked as vigorously as they are: 1. They're Sony!" Attacked because of the ad, not because they're Sony. "2. Because even today NO ONE EVER is allowed to associate any negativity towards the black community EVEN IF equal negativity is being associated with the white community (or any other)." Just as it's not acceptable to associate negativity towards women, disabilities, religion etc. Can political correctness go too far at times? Yes of course it can, but I prefer too much political correctness to the 'good old days' of unchallenged bigotry (which I have personal experience of). :|
"Then don't get so angry over their right to complain." 1. I'm not angry. Where did you get this info? Quit making ***** up. 2. I never got "anything" over their RIGHT to complain. This whole complain thing was brought up by you. So you are arguing with yourself. "Which goes back to the point I was making about deliberate controversity followed by apology." So what? Of course they KNEW it was going to controversial. Do does anyone else that posts a Darwin fish. Again, what's your point other then the fact that you have nothing on this? "This ad is inconsiderate" That's your OPINION. "As nothing has been proven because it's just opinion, hence people having different opinions to your own doesn't make them idiots or stupid." Bull! Any black person today that takes offense to something THAT NEVER HAPPENED TO THEM is an idiot, stupid, ignorant..... If you want to hate the moon because you hate the color green then that is your own STUPID, IGNORANT and IDIOTIC opinion. I said they should be considerate to the feelings of others. Oh boo facking hoo!!!! Again you have no point. Is ANY smoker ANYWHERE considerate of the feelings of those around them. FACK NO! This whole considerate argument of yours holds no water and is completely bogus. FREE SPEECH does not have to be considerate. If you don't like it...THEN DONT LISTEN. "Attacked because of the ad, not because they're Sony." Bull*****. Had it been another company it would not have been as fierce. Either way you missed the point. The point was "as vigorously as they are". "Just as it's not acceptable to associate negativity towards women, disabilities, religion etc." Again, Bull*****! Had this been anything else it would have been fine. To state otherwise is just plain ignorance. "but I prefer too much political correctness to the 'good old days' of unchallenged bigotry" There is a fine line between "political correctness" and the extinguishing of your constitutional rights. Don't be so quick to get rid of them.
I'm done now, it is VERY late in my part of the world (*yawn*), and to be honest, this discussion isn't going nowhere fast. You have your opinions and I have mine, and so we'll just have to agree to disagree. Anyway, thanks for the discussion just the same, perhaps next time it will be on something we both agree on. :)
GO KKK KILL THOSE BLACK PEOPLE!
Well, the ads weren't MEANT to be racist, I understand that. However, it's all about interpretation. It's easy to see how someone would interpret this as racist or touching on racism. Everyone should remember that it was Sony's decision to pull the ads, not anyone else's. And no, they weren't being bullied like some people seem to think. There have been a lot of people clamoring for Sony to allow homebrew for over a year now, yet they haven't - that's their right. It's apparent that they felt it best to pull the ads. They could have just as easily left them, it isn't as if they were breaking a law. Speaking of which, the reason this could be offensive to some is due to the fact that many countries of the world, not just the U.S., had problems involving a class of whites ruling a large population of blacks (specifically apartheid in South Africa and other parts of Africa). Despite the fact that the campaign in it's entirety may "even out", the risk that some might only see just one of them is one they don't want to take. And to the "FACKER" above, remember that while people have the freedom to say what they want, others have the equal right to contest it.
what's with all the facking? i guess thats to be expected from the likes of you ,but i bet if they made the ad with nazis instead you would care wouldnt you ? cause your half german

54. » Idiot! 20. » Finally Sorry finally admits they are wrong, this appology is long overdue. YOU sir are the problem. NOT Sony. Its not Sony's fault you have a HUGE problem with YOUR color. Get over yourself already! Oh sorry......didnt mean to opress you "brotha" by Fed up with CONSTANT race card pulling! (Unregistered), at Jul 12, 2006 at 02:34AM I kinda have to agree with that... Too much people are oversensitive about the racism issue, if everyone just treat eachother equally regardless of their skin color AND stop feeling so offended AND stop trying to offend people, solve any misunderstandings nicely... this would be a better world... 55. » Retarded This is not racist. Lynching a black person is racist. For gods sakes its an add. Get over it. If you think this is racist. Go jump off a bridge. by CertifieDorK (Unregistered), at Jul 12, 2006 at 06:23AM That is also agreed... only partly... this would be non racist but sony might just use this add in full knowledge of having people offended to capture attention... like this: 56. » #53, #54, #55 etc Guys, just because you are not offended by these ads, doesn't mean the ads are not offensive or that those complaining about them have no right to do so. This ad from Sony is no different. by Wake up and smell the roses! (Unregistered), at Jul 12, 2006 at 06:56AM Even tho sony used this kinda issue this way.. dosen't make it so that some people ARE'T infact too oversensitive... there are too many cases where some comment were entirely menant different while another person feel offended by the fact that it contained some issues that could be considered racist... in that case, the person that is feeling offended just set him self up ... he consider that racist while the person dont even mean it, sir THAT is the problem nowdays, wel combined with all the uneducated scums that discriminates...
I think judging from the comments above, most people think intelligently about racial issues (with a few exceptions #76 I'm lookin' at you buddy.) The thing to ephasize is EQUALITY. When black people (I don't call them African Americans because that goes against equality.) accuse people of being racist without good reason, they are fueling the fire. Yes racism still exists, but come on it's not everywhere! I know for a fact the criminal injustice system (judges, cops, etc.) is, but everyone hates them anyway. I think there is something mentally wrong with people who choose a career consisting solely of ruining people's lives. That's where you're likely to have racists. Their jobs are fueled by hate and prejudice since it has nothing to do with helping society. You could almost say their job is keeping certain people oppressed. Sorry I just love ripping on cops because they're worthless for the most part.
