The speculations never end. Even after Sony has officially unveiled their new PSP model, the NGP, it's still wrapped around with controversies. What everyone's wondering about now, of course, is just how much it will cost.

It's a fact that Sony most probably sealed the fate of the PSP Go to failure with the launch price they gave it. The launch of the PS3 was patchy too, largely thanks to the blinding amount of ka-chings it required. Are they going to make a repeat of that history?

So says Sony, that won't be the case this time around. Talking to tech news sites earlier, the company, through SCE president Shuhei Yoshida, made it known that they have learned their lesson from that past experience. It wasn't the easiest way to learn, it yes, but the important thing is that they did.

they've been pretty defensive about this whole pricing think, don't you agree? whatever it is, though, am just hoping that they do make good on their promise that it's not going to bleed out their market dry.

Of course it won't cost too much. It'll cost as much as Sony sees fit, which will be too much for what they're trying to make it out to be. I'll stick to my phone, thank you.

My thoughts exactly.

What they see as a acceptable price range may not be acceptable for us.

Practicality. That's what it has to do with it. Big flashy expensive portable gaming devices lost their practicality when smartphones started getting big.
And now that gaming devices have to be made to out-do the standard iPhone or Droid, the prices of them are bound to skyrocket. Until the hardware inside them is surpassed by phones, the price is going to be way too high to do
The true selling point for me is if my friends can afford it. I don't much see the worth if there will be no friends to play with, either over wifi, lan, or 3g. And if Sony doesn't let this one flop like they've been getting into the habit of doing.

The PSP, released in 2005, was stronger than every smartphone released after it for 4-5 years and costed a lot less than the average smartphone, so yeah.

And about that "removed feautre" please don't let it be the original PSP games support!

Xperia Play, without a contract will easily be $600. Nowadays cell phones are a fortune.

Phones have progressed amazingly over the past few years. Just think, ten years ago, Neo's cutting edge phone in the Matrix was the size of a brick.

This doesn't sound good.

Don't screw this up Sony, NGP's a beast in hardware and software.

Now it's up to you to make it a success or a fail, Sony.

Despite all of Sony's talk about NGP not costing you an arm and a leg, or being "reasonably priced", I still think it's going to be too much. If it were priced even remotely close to the 3DS, say $249-$299, Sony would have announced the price a long time ago as a big "in your face" to Nintendo and potentially killing any hype the 3DS had.

The original PSP launched at $249, and back then people complained about the price. With all the tech included in the NGP, do not be surprised when Sony tells you that you have to pay anywhere from $349-$399 for the 3G-less version, and at least $50 more for the 3G version. Also be prepared to pay home console prices for some games.

So you're betting the NGP will be $50-$100 more than the current PS3?

Not only is that prediction insane, but sony really would have to be insane to charge that much.

lol Would it not be totally hilarious if they made it cheaper than the 3DS? I know it will probably not happen but it would make me laugh all the way to amazon for the pre-order! :D
