This is something for the rumor mills. Apparently, PSP gamer birdman1 of invisionfree's forums, recently received an emailed survey from Playstation, and according to him after answering a few pages of the survey, there was a page largely devoted to what would make the PSP better (left thumbnail).This sounds like the Sony people are wanting feedback about possible new features. But then again, maybe Sony isn't coming up with a PSP 2, but maybe they are just coming up with a firmware update. What do you think? Tell us through your replies.

it almost sounds like every feature homebrew is bringing us (except free games and emu)

I don't think they are hinting for psp2 because they already announced who have the "best" survey can win a new psp or 5 games your choice and if they are hinting I think they would just improve the PSP.
I just took that survy. What jumped out at me was when they asked if I would like to see a mini hard drive!!! Oh ya I would!! I think the survy might be aimed more at upgrades and a psp 2. The questions seem to go in both directions.
How would they be updating the PSP with cellular possibilyties? I mean, you have to put that SIM card somewhere, and if there would be like an USB plugin on the top we would never be able to use GPS, Camera and Phone on the same time. Or maybe a small USB hub to connect all of them on the same time -_- "
The same for radio. How the heck would you connect it? The harddisk would probably be plugged in where the memorystick is normally. That already has been done Sony...do some research first =P
Language Translator? Well, there is that talking game and ofcourse a lot of websites like Babelfish or Worldlingo to translate your text.
I honestly like the PDA thingie the most, and it is most likely to be in the firmware since it doesn't need any hardware.
Video output? Oh right Sony, there are like 5 devices to do that already. Instant Messaging sounds nice, but they would probably come with something stupid like "PSPmessage" instead of the real deal like MSN or AIM.

Cellphone? That has got to be the dumbest add-on/feature EVER.

I want a camera...to be able to pull out my psp and snap shots and view them later would be sweet. Unfortunately any add-on camera at this point will ruin the form factor and it wont be pull out and take a picture, it will be pull out, hook up camera, take a picture, take off camera, put back
Oh well...and an upgraded PSP has been rumoured at already, it would kinda suck because it would most likely be more expensive then the current one, and even if they magically kept it the same price, it's still a little too pricey to just pick up another one....unlike the DS where I wouldn't mind getting the new lite version, even though it would be my 3rd DS, $130 is not alot to drop at one time, compared to $280+...
Alot of these features can be done with firmware upgrades too, or standalone progs (see ability to runs ps1 games == ps1 emu)

It's obvious that some of these are features already planned for the next firmware, (Like GPS, and the "ability to play PlatStation games on the PSP").
The PSP2 needs to be:
* A Mobile phone AND more importantly a WiFi type skype phone!!! In Jap/Eur-land mobiles are big. Free phone service around the web would be a big seller, tie in instance messing.
* Touch screen.
* Can do 3 Megapixel camera and some form of video. Even send video message to each other cell or wifi. Out of this comes video conferences for during games.
* eye-play uses the camera above
* An easy to use MP3 player with lots of storage >10GB.
* Games can be stored on the device without need for media to be carried around. But with an non-hackable system. This can be done with SSH like public private keys unique for each unit. Web distribution or free media for PC with a copy to PSP2 with web purchasing, think 'steampowered' HL2 retail except you still buy online you just don’t download the game, how cares about piracy as you still need to registers online to get it to work. DRM is the future no matter how much we hate it.
* Keep the screen the same size, make it thicker, but shorter in width. So it fits in your pocket, make the sides so it can fold into itself / protect screen. Or make the screen flexible, not going to happen anytime soon but one for the future.
* Add infrared project keyboard for web access. Or again touch screen mobile phone keyboard. Everybody under the age of 18 can do some seriously fast typing on these things.
I took this survey with GAP like a month ago. Wow if hes the only person you have thats it in that for your contacts thats sad.
Someone else saw it as well just thought I would post on it as well. It asks 1 least to 4 most yet there are 5 places to mark. I don't think sony is that dumn........ well........aww hell they are a bunch of gits but I know they can count.

Yet it is they who can't seem to count? Shesh. on a side note, some of the options could be added with firmware updates however there are a few that would require hardware. Either they are going to make attachments that are going to cost an arm and three legs to get your hands on or they would have to scrap the psp and start over via. psp2. So as I am going to count this as fake untill I see sony say otherwise.

Sony can obviously make those kinda of upgrades with simple firmware upgrades. Firmware upgrades can do anything! I mean, nobody expected the LocationFree player. Nobody expected the RSS Feed.
Plus most of these questions shouldn't even be in the survey. Sony will eventually come out with a Playstation emulator and Sony will release a GPS accessory. There is also an Eyetoy camera coming out.

If Sony really wants to make their PSP(2) a real multimedia-wonder they've to add these things. The PSP(1) has good ideas, but all in all they're not implemented that good. I mean: the PSP has a MP3-Player. But with a case (and you need it for sure) the PSP is that big and heavy that you have real problems to put it into our trouser pocket. And if you have it looks stupid.
A hinged solution would be the best. The screen in the upper part and the controlls on the lower one. Just like the DS-Lite has.
A PSP(2) with the size of the PSP(1)'s screen would be as big as an Ipod (ca.); that would fit pretty well and protect the PSP's inside (screen, controlls etc.)
They also shoud not make an high gloss surface, you can see all fingerprints. And if they do, not THAT glossy - I know there're ways to let a surface look glossy without having fingerprints (saw that on an MP3-player that wasn't too expensive).
The screen should be non-reflecting, the PSP(1)'s sreen is a pain to use in the sunlight - and a handheld you NOT have any problems with that!
In terms of Game-mediums like the UMD I'm not that unhappy with a disk-solution like that. But 1.3 Gb are simply not enough for big games. But with a mini-version of a BD-rom this problem should be solved.

I dont honestly think that this will be for a psp2, I honestly think that these features are to be either available in upcoming firmware updates, or as miniature add-ons. They already plan on making the psp a cell phone attatchment, a gps system, a microphone, camera they are already planning demo downloads and tests for upcoming games (A hint of this was seen in the 2.7 firmware update that featured a test version of LocoRoco), there is a playstation emulator in the works through sony, which would allow you to download ps1 games onto your psp but for a little price. There is also a 4 Gig hard drive already out. I think if in fact this IS a real survery, (Which i dunno, but im just sayin) Then it looks more like a survey for either:
A. A future firmware update
or
B. Looks like a survey that was taken a WHILE back, because mostly ALL the features (Including a TV connector cord, there are a few out right now) are already either announced to be on their way to the original psp, or they are secretly in the works for upcoming psp updates.
Thats just what I think.
Sony could, and most probably have, people browsing forums etc to see what people want which is why the selections in the questionaire seem to be what people want from the PSP.
But a questionaire is more focussed and actually gives them definite figures for what people really want. (whoever filled in the form for the screenshot is just not helping with all those 5's)
I like all thsoe features, hopefully we will get them eventually

I just filled out the survey last night, and was entered to win 5 PSP games and didnt even notice anything wrong with the survey.

A few of you are debating rather or not they could/should do a tv adapter, partly because there are already some out. But, look at it this way, if sony wanted to make one they could embed a driver for a usb powered adapter for instance. If sony did this im almost positive the screen that it shows on the television will be much easier to look at. Alot of that other stuff seems possible too.
I filled out the survey a couple days ago, it's legit. With that said, I'd assume the survey was for possible/planned future firmware updates and accessories.
We already knew there was going to be GPS, Cams, and other such things. But when dealing with production, things need to take priority. I'd assume that's what this is for, and I'd also assume that they already have all of those planned/implemented for the PSP.
Why would sony release a new system yet? They haven't even come close to tapping the PSP's full potential.
How can ppl say this is definately fake just because some numbers don't add up? m ; |. Anyway.. a PSP2 would be a surefire way to piss of psp owners. I saw this floating around months ago, they annouced some of the stuff just afterwards, so I'm guessing we're in for firmware updates + hardware.
I'm not going to upgrade from 1.5 though, unless the PS1 emulator is spot on, we get FF7+8+9, and there isn't a good N64 emulator around. There may be a homebrew PS1 emulator in the works anyway.
Yeh i took this poll in Australia, sony Australia emailed me cos i registerd my PSP and asked me a bunch of questions like that

I really cant beleave i have to fight this point, this about it people, if you had a cellphone feture you would not be confined to a wifi hotspot. you could surf the internet,multip lay,email,I.M, and RSs were ever the hel you are.
with only haven to pay one company. with out haven't to scan and seeing 3 wifi internet perviders and playing the who is cheaper game. not to mention some WIFI hotspots have those damn pay pages that dont always pull up.
sony need to release a cellphone adapter and also fix the hole cache thing.

Must be an addon type thing, but I can also say this is real and not fake I was sent the same survey last night and it had like 13 pages of nonsense. questions like "would you consider umd's as durable". Dude i like snaped my ridgeracer umd in two just buy pulling it out of the box.
I think the tv thing would be nice since it will probally be better than the ones out now plus it won't viod your warrenty to add it.
I would like it if sony were to make it possiable for the psp to read more than 4gb since I have the 8in1 neo pad and like 12gb worth of chips for it it would be nice to use more than 1 at a time.
Also @42 not that it will happen. But how the heck can sony get sued for bringing out a PSP2 so soon after the psp has been released? People don't have to buy the thing if they didn't want it. As long as it was backward compatable I would not mind getting one.After all it was not that long between the the GBA advance and the SP just two years.

Last time sony put the most features on the psp was when 2.0 came out. I remember the article that showed the gps and camera programs secretly in th ver. 2.7 , I beleive sony is putting these programs out now because they would be too big for ver 3.0: ONe can already judge that the SOny is making many more features available.

I think the only way to make some of these features a worthwhile add-on (cell, camera, gps and flash HD) would be to make an all in one attachment that fitsonto the back and makes the psp as thick as one with the datel HD.....because honestly I wont buy sh*t if I have to swap out accesories everytime I want to use something....

I remember reading this about a month ago on a blog somewhere. Oh wait thats right it was THIS blog. It would be nice if the people that post the "news" actually read it themselves instead of posting anything that is sent to them, I think I might report an exploit found in v1.0 that allows you to run unsigned code and see if they are dumb enough to post it.

First off, the picture is actually from the REAL survey. Why 5 was put for all the questions I'm not sure, because I put some low scores on that part because some of that stuff just isn't interesting. Like the being able to put the PSP stuff on the TV, it's just not interesting.
But I despise the thought of a PSP2, because I got mine like late last year, and for Sony to think they can just make their customers pay for another one is just ludicrois. If they were to put out one of those "Bring your stuff back and we'll give you a refund or the new thing", sorry I forgot the word but it's at the tip of my tounge. And they'd have to yank all the original PSP's off the shelves, because you'd HAVE to be an idiot to buy the first one when the next one is already out there with those features. I'd opt to buy a Xbox, over a 360 because the 360 has no actuall "Next Gen" games out, and there's more variety on the original.

Get over yourselves, Sony DOES actually want customer input on whether they think all these rumors are good ideas (If they aren't already products in development.). And I doubt a PSP2 is coming any time soon considering the small gap in graphical power between the PSP and PS2 already.

Sorry, no you can't downgrade any PSP with firmware higher than 2.0. But there is an exploit that you can use with the GTA game that will let you run most homebrew as long as you don't upgrade to 2.7 firmware. Although I really don't know how easy it is to use since I have a 1.5 PSP and have never used it. I am sure if you look around on the forums you will be able to find all the info you need. There are very helpful people on the forums that are willing to give you the answers you need since everyone was new to the homebrew scene at one time or another.

Besides, few downgraders have been created for 2.01, only that they have a very low success rate and are very hard to find. I was only seeing if someone with a little bit ok intelligence or knowledge can give me any information whatsoever about any downgraders they've found. And thanks, akuma2099. Not only have you posted a helpful comment, but you can also effectively use the English language with proper spelling and grammar. I really do with that there were more people like you out there.

this is a firmware thing. Sony realesed a timeline where it would get gps, a camera. Vonage and Sony could partner up an make psp into a cell phone. The playstation 1 emu has been a rumer goin on. i jus took it. There lookin for ways to improve the next update they wnat to make it better now.Sony probably knows about the dissapointment of the 2.7 update, which i have and hate. The flash player is old as hell. weel oh yeah, sony needs some better games

It mentions about the ability to connect to the playstation 3. sony have already mentioned that the PSP not PSP 2 will be able to connect to it via wifi and use it as a controller or spare screen. Also, sony releasing a language translater in around june called a TALKMAN. That is especially for the psp.
I also heard about gps add on and camera add on for the PSP. It even mentions about the gps on yourpsp.com And most of the others including the PDA can easily be added as a firmware update!! Including Radio which could be used via wifi.
this has to be a firmware survey cos Sony would be sued and almost deffo hated amony psp owners and Sony would do anything to not lose their customers to Microsoft. PSP already connects to ps2 i have done it with Socom 3 and Socom : FTB.
If they did a mobile phone compatability it would not be VOIP it would be an attachment that you would buy from your Mobile Company Provider e.g Cingular (U.S.) or O2 or Orange (EU).
Big companies like Sony know what they talk about and would never set an explanation in grids like this.
+ Their work is still secet because op concurrence.

i don't think they should make a new one unless they can make downloadable updates on a website i just paid $250 for it and if they are comming out with a new one i just wasted my money and i worked for that i think they should make the upgrades downloadable for free or or mabey like 25$ or somthing atleast that way we get the new one without having to spend another 250$. Or they could let us trade in the one we have for the new one that would be better.
