Sony Bend on bringing Resistance to the PSP

Played the demo yet? It sure feels so cool when you realize that you're playing Resistance on the PSP. That's exactly what the guys at Sony Bend were aiming for. They wanted to get that intense Resistance gameplay that we know so well from the PS3 and put it into Resistance: Retribution.

Co-director at Sony Bend Studios John Garvin takes us deep into the development stages of the game, showing us clips of what we can expect from Resistance: Retribution. Working very closely with Insomniac Games, they were able to translate the PS3 gameplay into handheld, but at the same time, they were able to come up with a unique title.

With a new hero and a new dimension to the game, I'd say Resistance: Retribution lives up to the hype and the reputation of the Resistance franchise.

Im not trying to bash Resistance or anything but through my experience, shooters don't really work that well on a psp since there isn't the 2nd analog.

Since when does a shooter need two analog sticks?

Remember Goldeneye? That Nintendo 64 game that was played using a Nintendo 64 controller that only had one analog stick? Remember that game being pretty kickass?

Ever heard of a game called Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow? It's a PSP game, it's a shooter that is basically the same thing as Resistance Retribution, only it's not a sci-fi game. Guess what, it kicked ass.

You thinking that a game needs to have two analog sticks to be playable is just plain sad.

# That is why you have two optionsphiyuku 2009-02-17 15:58
1 - Play normally without 2nd Analog stick and get aim assist

or

2 - Plug in PSP to PS3 to use PS3 controller and use its 2nd Analog Stick but enemies get more health and you lose aim assist.

If you don't have a PS3 you have 2 options

1 - Suck up and play it as it is

or

2- Go out and buy a PS3 and join the console with the best HD Experience ever with mind blowing games and blah blah blah (Yes this was supposed to sound like an advertisement.)

I remember playing Medal of Honor: Heroes 1 + 2, as well as Dark Mirror + Logan's Shadow. All of these games have 'advanced' configs that let oyu move with the Face buttons and use the Analog nub to aim. worked like a charm. Felt natural.

Wow....another one of those people who can't live without analog sticks...

Remember the era of Doom? Yeah when it was released on Super Nes/Genesis 32X...they didnt have ANY analog sticks...yet we all played those games to death AND enjoyed them.

Why can't people just suck it up and enjoy the game how it is instead of finding things to complain about?

I for one am excited that I will be able to play one of my favorite series on my PSP.

Dual analog sticks or not.

This game actually looks good, compared to some of the other titles that came out. At first, the graphics looked way too advanced to be rendered on a PSP, but, I guess they are taking it to the next level now. I think the main reason for piracy on the console was the fact that most of the titles that have come out make the hardware seem extremely inferior...especially since it came out pre ps3. We were still nestalgic about the PS2 graphics being awesome, and the Portable proclaimed being better at graphics rendering than the ps2. Then the PS3 launched...and that all went away in a flash. If they could just squeeze a little more visual juice out to aid the gameplay of most of these newer games coming out, it won't feel like a let down everytime I buy a title and see how piss poor and dated the graphics look to all consoles now. BTW i'm not thrashing the PSP. I love mine. But, you all have to admit that it is most definately outdated now. It was a shortlived attempt to thwart nintendo's dominance in the portable console market. They beat them there hands tied behind their backs, only because the technology was so much more advanced...and the size was still reasonable. Here's to the next generation Portable from Sony. Maybe a mini cell, with a more advanced gfx chip and possibly drop the UMD format? (Because it's definately dead now.) They could easily go flash memory btw, prices are low, sizes are much bigger than UMD discs can hold, and it would save battery life and reduce loading time significantly.

I guess a lot of replies here havent played it yet.

1, it doesnt need a 2nd analogue, it uses the buttons. It also has a really good aim assist which even locks on when the target isnt on screen or moves off screen.

I dont really like resistance or resistance 2 but resistance retrubition is done really well. It does look really good and the gameplay is a lot better than the PS3 versions.

I guess I will finish RR on PSP before I finish the other 2 on the PS3 as its that much better.

I hope they make a RR2 on PSP as the demo is done very well. I'm impressed. I cant wait for it to be finished.

Ok, well if you believe shooters don't work on the PSP, then what does exactly? Racers aren't exactly the brightest either btw.

It's a portable, be glad you even have the opportunity to play a quality game on-the-go. Just be glad you can do it in 3D no-less. Oh, and also be glad that Sony hasn't given up on the PSP and that they're still producing some kickass games for the best portable ever. This really brightened my thoughts on the PSP because I haven't seen a good game being made or released for this system in the past year or two so this, to me, is a reward.

Since all you seem to care about is that second analog and aim-assists, try playing the game enough to get better at it. Even though it's a game, you need to put some effort and skill into it in order to actually feel accomplished at the end. If you continue to ***** about help and assists, there will never be a good competitive game that requires some concentration. If you want easy games, go find a Wii, other than that suck it up and be grateful Sony is even allowing a game of this caliber to be released.

For a portable system the PSP is certainly not outdated. What the hell are you expecting from a device you can fit in your pocket? God of War on PSP looks and plays brilliantly.

What I can't understand is why when the PSP has so many fantastic games (a lot being well known Sony franchises either as a brand new entry or a very good port of the PS2 version, and several high quality original titles some of which most people still have never heard of) is it so looked down on? It's by far the best portable gaming machine ever made. I've still yet to find anything worth playing on the DS other than it's Castlevanias (which are spoiled by unneccesary touch screen crap) and those still aren't as good as Symphony of the Night which is available on PSP.

Can't say I'm fussed about this game. Demo didn't do much for me and I'm not a fan of the PS3 Resistance games (or FPS's in general) but I hope it sells well and encourages other developers to do some more PSP software. The lil machines still got much untapped potential.

....we made hacks for this game like the first day it was out, and they didnt do anything but change some models, if you take the demo apart in UMDgen, they have files in there dated back to 03?(i dont remember this is a while back i personally took it apart)...the file is from syphon filter from the playstation.......some simple ports, and this game is dead....i hope the story mode is good, thats were ill be playing most of my time...
