Did you guys get this survey? Apparently, Sony is asking PSP users whether or not a gaming rental service via the PlayStation Store is an attractive idea. Could this be a mere "We're looking into the possibility of it" or is it more of a "It's more likely it's gonna happen so we wanna know if it'll fly with you" kind of thing?

Nope, no rentals here...

In the survey are probing questions pertaining to your familiarity with the PSN store, gaming role, and more. There was also in inquiry there regarding monthly plans, as well as memory space, monthly fees, games on demand, etc.

It's not that far-off an idea, actually. After all, they've already started digitally distributing games, so being able to rent one out via their PSN is the next logical step to go, yes?

Sorry about the images. That's really as big as they can get. If anyone can get a better screenshot of the survey, it'll be much appreciated!

» definitely!

For a fair price it would be a great idea! I only hope for the same amount of games in all the PS Stores, right now the mexican store is a joke!

This would not be a good idea. 99% of all games can be beaten within a 5 day period. If people can pay just a few bucks and download the full game, beat it, and delete it. What's to make them actually buy the game?

» replayability

games that you never get tired of, games that can be played over and over again, either because of the extra content you gain upon beating a game, or simply because of what you think of the game (like i play FFX once in a while, from start, even thoughg i've completed it 4 times or more)

» Subscription

When I took the survey all of their rental models proposed were subscription based.

Also I could see this reducing potential revenue lost to the used video game market and piracy.

On the survey, there were also questions about the frequency of homebrew downloading/usage and whether or not a rental service would impact it.

» Price?

Rayman 2 is about $6 US dollars on the PSN

it would depend on the price for rental for this to go well...

me Id rather pay the 2 extra dollars to own the game

I think the appeal is that you would pay a monthly fee and be able to access up to x number of games from a large online catalogue.

That would give you the freedom to play games for as long/little as you want contingent upon your subscription remaining active.

It'll be interesting to see how this all works out. Hopefully the pricing will be reasonable.
