PSP phone concept - Image 1Amidst all the concept art, the discussions and even the denials, rumors of a PSP phone live on. According to Mobile Entertainment, insiders have suggested that Sony Ericsson is indeed exploring the possibility of a gaming-centric mobile phone.

Those clamoring for a PSP phone, however, will have to wait a bit longer, it seems. As Mobile Entertainment noted, Sony Ericsson's gaming phone - which is reportedly scheduled for a February 2008 launch - will not carry the PSP branding.

What it will have, though, is motion sensitivity for "Wii-like gameplay" on a handset - despite some recent mobile handsets already implementing tilt and vibration detection using their built-in cameras. Meanwhile, the new Sony Ericsson phone will also reportedly have a games-oriented UI and style as well as other technical innovations.

Will this new gaming phone end up as a potential PSP competitor? Sony Ericsson has already built a good reputation with its Cyber-shot and Walkman phones, while the PSP is expected to enjoy higher sales numbers this month when the PSP Slim hits.

What do you guys think about this possible competitor? Leave a comment below and share your thoughts.

Why the hell do you need a PSP phone? Not only will it costs hundreds of dollars, but there's no point in having one.

You can buy a mobile phone and a PSP for less!

Now we should be watching for the PS3 Slim with

BlueRay RW built in, Video conferencing over IP,

200GB Serial ATA and a wireless Gigabit card built

in.

» it's a matter of opinion and taste.

Jest because you see no need for it doesn't mean

others don't. You sound kind of like your about to

start flaming. In case you haven't noticed, a lot of

technology is merging, this concept being a good

one and doable. So I ask you, Why Not!

this isn't a NEED. it's just a big big WANT.

I should have a cell, but I dont, because I am poor. go ahead rub it in losers.

If I'm at work or on the road, i don't wanna talk anyway. And when I DO get a cell, it better be something like this.. games included.

» Nokia N-Gage?

Nokia tried to create a new mobile phone gaming platform and failed. Why would Sony be any more successful? Sure there will be a few games but they won't be anything you can't get on another quality cell phone. If games need to be specifically made for this expect only a handful, most made by Sony.

» Pretty retarded blogger.

How could it be classed as a competitor when Sony inc. own sony erricson and sony psp? Pretty stupid blogging if you ask me.

» yeah

this is o it would be awesome thing, but that'a bout it, a psp phone would be at least 300 or 400, sick of gadgets fanboys The best cellphone is a little one how're u gonna play in there think for a second no worth it

Inter-division competition does exist. Sales of the Sony Ericsson gaming phone can eat into PSP sales and vice versa.

» Pretty retarded blogge

definitly plus Sony already did one of those things with the mylo wich is a phone with lots of stuff withouth games and it was like 400 so people is getting way ahead with this , not saying it cannot be done cuz it is but mmaking one would cost so much at least 500 or 600 imagine a processor handling a videocall while in game plus be fast at it , you don't want to miss a call i think if they ever make one it'' be 2009 or 2010 when parts are cheaper

Yeah they are but if an Sony Nice Network player wins over a psp that woulf be fine(Not related), but if Sony Ericsson uses the Psp seal then it's not much a Sale fight cuz they made it up together. For example the Cyber-shot Phone it's a SonyEricsson And Cybershot divison Sucsess. Anyway that's the way i see it, correct me if i am wrong, but it doesn't hurt to recognize you made a mistake.

The Sony Ericsson phone won't be using the PSP branding, though. At least that's what the rumors say. Still though, you're right. The wording may have been a bit unclear. Thanks for pointing it out in a nice way. :)
