Rumor: PSP Phone announcement next month?

Speculations about the long-rumored PSP phone have been circulating since last year and then again early this year when blurry images of the supposed device leaked online. Now we have another leaked image of what looks like a press invitation, in which, an image of a phone were placed next to the four familiar symbols of the PlayStation brand with a December 9th date.

According to Mobile Crunch, the information comes from a reliable source and assuming it´s true, the Playstation Phone maybe announced sooner than expected at Sony Ericsson's private event in France next month. Here's what the tipster revealed to Mobile Crunch so far:

Yes, the invite is absolutely real.
The screen is “mind-blowing”, on-par with the iPhone 4′s retina display. The person giving the tipster the rundown on the display indicated that some of Sony’s Bravia technology has trickled in here, with Sony Ericsson considering leveraging the Bravia brand when highlighting the display.
It won’t ship in time for the holidays, with the tipster saying it was “no where near ready”. According to their Sony-Ericsson rep, the company is off-the-record-officially aiming for February. At this point, a launch scheduled around Mobile World Congress is nearly certain.
Sony Ericsson currently has the off-contract price floating somewhere around US$ 500, with that purchase including 5 free games.
It’s unclear whether the “Playstation Phone” is capable of running actual (downloaded) PSP games - but Mobile Crunch predicts it will not, given what they heard so far and the amount of emulation work that would be required. The device will likely be sporting a new, independent line-up of games built specifically for this platform, which might explain why Sony Ericsson is reportedly planning on pushing this handset with the XPERIA brand rather than the more recognizable Playstation brand. Sony Ericsson is heavily leveraging Sony’s licensing partnerships, though, with names like Tekken being thrown around.
Games will purportedly be priced like mobile games, not like PSP games. In other words, expect sub-US$ 10, not sub-US$ 40.
The tipster confirmed that the “Z-System” name so oft thrown around the rumor mill around is still in play, and that Sony-Ericsson reps used it to describe both the gaming platform and the distribution center. It’s still unclear (even to Sony-Ericsson, it sounds like) whether the game distribution will be done in a standalone application or through the Android Market, but our tipster was told that Google was working closely with Sony Ericsson to try and bring it all into a section of the Android market exclusive to these devices. It’d be highly beneficial for Sony Ericsson to have Google on their side, here, given that the latter has considerably more experience with payment processing (and relationships for things like carrier billing).

The tipster then went on to add that they were very impressed with the gaming experience of the device, going as far to say it was “the best gaming [they've] ever had on a mobile device.”

So... I'm guessing we won't have any large budget games hitting the new PSP phone. I'm just gonna' wait and see, I highly doubt the brains at Sony are stupid enough to release a gaming device that the big name developers are going to ignore due to the greedy mobile market (people move from phone to phone pretty quickly...).

Here's to hoping that even if the prices will be that low, we'll still have some high quality games.

They wont market that device with playstation brand ?

What are we buying here, a mobile phone or a portable console ? Sont totally confused imo. There are lots of mobiles in the market if Sony want to sell me a device its console functions has to be in front of its connectivity. I cant believe that Sony wasted a huge expectation of PSP2 in return for a weird device which wont make happy non of us. People say device will have more RAM than xbox-360 and 2 joysticks and than saying that games will be 10 $ ! This is like claiming Ferrari will have a new model with VW Bug tires.

Your confused. There is going to be a phone with gaming capabilities, with games around $10 then then later in the year there will be a psp2 with 2 joysticks and the ram your talking about. your combining two diferent hardware units

Probably you're right but where did you get the information that there will be 2 PSP devices in 2011 ? One PSP-phone and a PSP2

And also both of the leaked images of devices have 2 joysticks just the later one had a ball in the back in addition. Obviously we have images of 2 different prototypes.

think of it this way its going to ruin the ipone because it will be a phone with the gameing platform of a psp witch means while iphone can play bubble pop then make a call you'll be able to pause your assassin creed and check your messages don't be confused by the awesomeness that is the psp phone

I dont know why the people believes in rumors, i think its very stupid do that and then begin to talk about specifications jaja when the gadget doesnt exists peolple wake up, and wait if somebody of sony talk about of this, not a simple image. Where is PSP2? where is?

Total fabrication. A phone PSP? Give me a break, everyone want's next gen.. I'm 100% sure that if they released something like this the quality of gaming would be low. Hey I'm paying 40$ a month for my service, I want a 60$ game.. hmmm. Doubt a lot of parents would fork out 100$ on this thing monthly. I think some backstage noob over heard a Sony Ericsson conversation and with PSP in his head along with the words, "sony", "phone", this is what you get. Might see some psp titles used to release some mini games for their phones most likely. Maybe loko roko on the erricson, not assassin's creed.

I want next gen gaming on a handheld, not texting and degrading graphics with small short games. I still say sony will scrap the psp and make something new down the road but this here would cost way to much and a lot of people wouldn't buy it or just stop renewing subscriptions which this thing would need to thrive.
