PSP Go - Image 1

This is just a rumor folks, but we've come across word that Sony's pricing scheme for the PSP Go, currently set at a pretty high US$ 249, could still change prior to the handheld's October 1 launch.

This comes from PSP World, who supposedly has a corporate source at Best Buy who says that there "is likely to be some wiggle-room in pricing for Sony's PSP Go." The same source also reportedly said that their product displays for the PSP Go, which will feature the handheld's price, are still being finalized -- probably because the final price hasn't been decided on yet.

If Sony does lower the price of the Go, maybe to around US$ 200, then good for them. I somehow kinda doubt it though. These are the same people who launched the 20GB PS3 at a US$ 500 price point, after all.

Hope

C'mon! Lower prices are always a good thing! And maybe keep the $250 price except add a 32GB version to take that.

.

I think a $199 price point would be the sweet point, but I don't see it happening. If any drop is made it'll be to like $239 or something dumb like that :P

Beat me to it..

Agreed, 100% PS3 has bluetooth, 120gb hd, bluray support, dolby 7.1 digital, HD capability, and more for $300. PSPgo has bluetooth, 16gb SSD, dolby 5.1, is portable, and has a gimmick for $250. Which would you buy? Then again, a gimmick worked well enough for the Wii...

179.99 core, 199.99 bundle of sorts would be NICE although unrealistic. My 2 pennies.

Not only that...

But you can get a 2000 or 3000 for $149 and still have $100 to put towards a PS3 Slim.

AUD

I dont know the conversion rate atm but I will not be paying over $200AUD for a PSP GO. And that's AFTER a CFW is released for it. If it cant play the games I already own then I wont get it.

PSP Go isnt really a NEW handheld.

Its an old handheld based on new design with a smaller screen AKA 3.8. Sony really thinks they can compete against apple, thats sad. This has the same graphics and CPU chip as PSP. If this was a new handheld with graphics and CPU chip thats as powerful as PS3 or so, then I would understand a 250 dollar price point but its added nothing new to the table except add new things to it like they did with PSP 2000 and 3000, which is blu tooth. Itouch outclasses this in alot of ways. touch screen, better sound system AKA volume is louder, so on. Sad truth about PSP GO design is its made to look like an Itouch. Its perfect design for a touch screen. If they did release it with a 200 price tag, I would buy it for one reason, its lighter and smaller but like with the recent PSP's. Sony seems to love bringing out NEW PSPs every year. So I would expect another PSP GO next year with a PSP screen and NOT 3.8 and probably add more memory.

"Then again, a gimmick worked well enough for the Wii... "

Well enough for both Microsoft and Sony to try and copy it, yup.

meh

I buy it when it can run homebrews and have CFW on it. Now sony calls Homebrew, PSP Minis; A brand new omebrews , but this time legit that come from sony. These are going to be mostly games, mini games than apps like most of the homebrews from the scene. Which its good, Sony its actually taking this serious, Apps = homebrews. PSP Minis = Homebrews, just from Sony, and Licensed Devs. Again, I buy it when it runs homebrews from the PSP OLD Scene, still PSP minis it wouldnt be enough, unless they release a free SDK, and support to the customer. But only apps would be for sale if they pass a market evaluation and also that sellers/devs have to pay for a seller's membership in order to sells these on the PSP Minis Store. That would be great, I can think that would be better than the Apple Store and the incoming Zune Apps World. Still will buy if: Sony does what I just explain above... or This PSP gets CFW to at least run Hombrews. That would be the only two conditions that needs to meet. Thanks ! :D

.

This would have to be true. Even Sony should know how much money they'd lose if they don't drop the price, especially considering things about the Go's price problem (less to produce and $80 more) was everywhere, even on Yahoo. With such widespread knowledge on it, Sony would have to do something about it. The $500 20Gb PS3 at launch actually makes more since than a $250 PSP Go (at the time of the 20GB PS3, production costs for it were pretty high). Now, the other problem limiting the Go is the downloadable game prices.
