Rumor: Is Yoshihiro leaving the PSP homebrew scene too?

We've seen lot's of drama and controversies surrounding the PSP homebrew community lately, from the Dark Alex hiatus to some fake CFW coders to the flamers. But thanks to the constant update from Yoshihiro and Team GEN, the PSP homebrew scene is still alive and kicking. Now, a shocking post from Yoshi brings another round of bad news to the community.

Spotted by our forum member Twilight_Genesis over at the PSP GEN forums, Yoshiro has stated that he will no longer release any other update of Custom Firmware GEN due to some coders copying his codes.

last cfw update for me by guyz the word of this year let other use my stuff on M33 lame guyz no update for the futur games on psp3000 and 2000

just sayin.. the guy has a daughter for gods' sake. let a dad be a dad at least we know why he's leaving insted of it being like darkalex who just mysteriously left out of no-where. he has done his part for the psp community, he freakin solved the 6.00 decryption problem and made a shitload of useful plugins and a ds emulator, i say give him a break he's carried well over his weight. let him have a life ...... dammit.

There's 15 modifications of GEN's firmware being circulated as we speak.

Not to mention noobs too scared to upgrade from M33.

Not to mention the little to no credit that's been given to him for anything he's done.

I won't switch from it, and I don't really care how many versions of GEN are circulating the interwebs. It doesn't change the fact that there are no good games out that require an updated version. However, when KH comes out I will switch to whatever lets me play it but until then it's a moot point because M33 works great.

Well, let's admit, PSP is dying and most likely this is the last year, we all know Sony tried to fight piracy but always failed to do so. So I think in this year's E3 Sony will announce PSP 2 with maximum security, well, if not, so good as PS3's then.

It's normal that he got tired, in every single GEN cfw update was made, there was always a M33 vs GEN battle going on.

I won't miss him doing updates, as I've moved to 6.20 fw already.

What would he say if Sony did the same?

I mean that Sony says "we'll no longer produce nor sell any psp or psp game, because they have been using our code"

@Knutselmaaster - sony is about money. there is nothing childish in their actions.

if psp stops being profitable - they won't think twice about dropping it. if somebody uses their code - they'll likely sue him (if there is money in that).

imagine being a cfw developer.

you must know psp inside out, be able to decrypt the firmware, write low level code. you also need to somehow debug all this, and on top of it, you need to make sure your firmware works with at least 90% of psp games out there. and you do not get any money for your work.

and a reward for all your effort is :

- 99% people will insult you because newest games do not work. because they require more recent official firmware.

- 90% people will b..ch about not working ISO loader (which is all they care about);

- 50% people will moan about how cfw from some other group was so much better, and call your work a ripoff (without backing it with any proof).

- 40% people will likely call doubt your skills because your work is not based on latest and greatest official firmware

- 0.1% of people will actually show some gratitude.

(percentages do not sum up to 100%, because some people might belong to multiple groups).

how would you feel? i'd be happy to quit, without second thoughts.

i really,really respect people who make custom firmware. it's a tough task, and requires a lot of low-level knowledge, skill and patience.

Oh, this is something about rumored 5.00m33-8 (hadn't heard about it). I didn't know that Yoshihiro's code was directly used to accomplish that. But if it was hex-edited from GEN, then it's same as with M33 to GEN. If it was stolen, that's an another story. However, I think it was technically a bad move in the first place to restrict the code only to GEN if at the same time M33 patching support was possible. I do respect Yoshihiro's effort, but have actually hoped he finally stopped working with GEN. I see much more potential in his DSONPSP emulator. Hopely he's able to finish what he has started, that would be something I really do respect and find use.

If he's going to have a cry about someone stealing his work then GROW UP YOSHY!

There are too many Devs crying about people modding or stealing their work these days. Just be happy the PSP scene is still alive, JUST.

I've also gone to 6.20 with a PSP GO and I'm happy with it. I think the PSP CFW scene is now dead as DA is gone and nobody can make a CFW as good as he can so if DA never comes back its the same for the CFW scene.

As GENs firmwares are stolen from M33 in the first place I think Yoshy is just a hypocrite.

YEP! Look in the flash0 of GENs firmware for all the M33 files.

march33.prx for example. I believe that's not a GEN file. It's a M33 file so now tell me GEN didn't steal it from M33...

All say they are M33 drivers. These are from 550GEN-B CFW but I bet they are in all GEN firmwares.

All STOLEN from M33.

I guess the next GEN firmware you will see all those files edited to say GEN drivers. LOL

I've thanked you for a few things. The main release you've done that is great is GameDecrypter. Great work.

As the whole CFW scene is nearly dead ANYTHING is good these days, even if someone steals something and releases something else. I think the DEVs should not keep things to themselves and start releasing all the goodies they are keeping from us.

GEN said they have a 620GEN CFW. SO where is it? I've read their lame excuses why they never released it. I think its just proof they cant do it.

IF Team Typhoon can do it then all those lame excuses from GEN are just proof they are lame and cant do anything themselves. It looks like without Yoshy GEN are nothing but thieves and lamers.

Dude... Didn't Yoshihiro join Team Gen AFTER the first GEN release? Wouldn't that mean he didn't steal shit? Cause really he made the DS emulator from scratch and the program that allowed you to patch games that required higher firmware.

Plus I believe it is stated that in the GEN readme that that decrypted 5.00 M33 (This was when D_A was on hiatus) and went from there to upgrade it to 5.50 GEN. Then when games required higher firmware I heard the first of Yoshihiro, which was his game patcher. Next thing you know he teams up with GEN and puts it in their firmware.

So dude, stop your bitching. You should be THANKFUL he even offered his time from his family and helped the PSP scene live on for just a few more months when it could have just died off. Seriously, all you've posted is your bitching. You say D_A is better, and I will agree with you there, nothing compares to him, but let me ask you this. Where the FUCK is D_A now? Where the FUCK was he when Team GEN had to make their on firmware because he just abandoned us. Face it, D_A just isn't as reliable as he use to be. He has a family now. At least Yoshihiro is letting us KNOW he is leaving. He has a family as well, but he STILL tells us that he is leaving.

Might be time for me to re-arrange my PSP hardware collection. It really is a shame, because all I want from Sony (and CFW) is the ability to play the UMD's I own digitally, and the only way to do that is rip them using CFW or pay for them a second time at rip-off prices from PSN.

If it's true, then thanks Yoshihiro, you certainly gave my PSP a lot more life. Hope you find something new to interest you in the future :)

how is 5.50 GEN a hex edited 5.00 m33? i mean logic would dictate that m33 is a 5.00 fw and GEN is a 5.50 fw. two totally different versions, and 5.50 was never touched by m33 publicly?its like saying ford ripped off chevys corvette when they built the GT90. two totally different things that both accomplish the same end.

anyways, *I* am sad to hear him calling it quits. I've waited with bated breath for his last 2 or 3 updates. i was so sad when i couldnt play my tekken 6, and WHOA! Here comes Yoshihiro with the save. alas, no more it looks like. Well have fun being a daddy. what more could you ask for out of life? ;]

GEN firmwares are hacked and adapted versions of M33. Thats why team GEN cant make a 6.xx CFW. Stay with 5.00 M33 and have a pandora setup and upgrade to OFW's for games that need higher versions and flash back for pirating and homebrew. I just with DA would come back to the scene

I see what you mean Yoshi, i didn't look at it like that.

Now i imagine that their are some advantages in it for you (the gen site is well visited and therefore the adds must generate some steady income, and you have access to the newest hardwares as soon as they come out (sponsored?) and it's a great way to show off your capabilities wich will help you to get a nice job in the "industry") but i believe that it isn't enough to make you rich or even feed your family.

But why do you make these codes, is it for your pleasure or just to serve the users?

I made several websites (i know thats way less complicated, but for me it was quite an achievement) and found out that other people had copied content and code directly to their site. First it made me mad but after a while i realized it's somewhat of an honour. Because it shows that people find your work the best, otherwise they would copy the work of someone else. And it didn't change the fun i had making it and the satisfaction i had when i finally finished it like i wanted it to be.

Thats probably why DA left. He didn't like GEN stealing his work and using it as their own.

How can they say they don't like people using their work when they do the exact same thing?

I think GEN have to go and a new team come out and replace DA.

I've owned a psp since 2006, and I had cfw a month after purchasing it. My psp has been sitting in my closet for two years mostly untouched, I haven't played a game on it in a looong time.

The novelty of the psp wears off after time, ever when I did use it daily I mostly used it to watch videos.

Honestly, if this guy wants to stop making cfw... it's his choice, guess you'll either have to:

a)Stick with old firmware and sacrifice new games

b)weight for someone to take his place

c)Go with official sony firmware and actually PAY for games.

Since when did any coder sign a contract that said they were required to release new CFWs or homebrew in a timely manner? Remember back before CFW when it was all about Dev hook? Nobody believe they were high and mighty, or were entitled to anything they wanted. Now all of a sudden, its about stealing code and making fake CFW just to get noticed. Dax and Yoshi wasn't the beginning of the end here. It ended as soon as the community felt they deserved more. Anybody who says the GEN team didn't do a good job is completely retarded. You didn't release a CFW did you? No. So Yoshi leaving is nothing spectacular. Get over it and move on. Homebrew is dead.

He did a lot of great work on psp and look how 80% of the community treats the dude "F*** gen m33 is the best gen is buggy ill just wait till they release this for m33" but maybe someone would like to point me to where dark alex is atm, oh thats right he is nowhere to be found. as far as i know who heleped during our summer drought who was the one that coded something up so we can play our games, damn sure wasn't dark alex the small amount of hope the homebrew community had, is now gone all because of these m33 co/k suckers that want things their way. Its not enough that they get to play their newest games they also want everyother little thing handed to them on a silver platter. Dont get me wrong clearly not every single m33 user is like this. Some understand that there is a choice to be made their games or their homebrew but others have nothing better to do than piss and moan when this choice comes and (BEG) have other m33 bitches use this code and port it to m33 all the while not even giving yoshi the slightest bit of credit. SO good luck to you yoshI and may your skills take you somewhere where people will appreciate you.

For instance Nakedfaerie has trolled every board going badmouthing these great developers, and has been banned on several boards and warned on others.

There is a trend towards scaring off developers like yoshihiro, possibly sponsored by Sony itself.

The scene is clearly in a decaying state.

It needs someone with rhinoceros skin to withstand the trollish splutterings of such imbeciles like Nakedfaerie.

PSP Gen is a mess. Each one requiring constant re-flashing, corrupting game saves and not even being able to load old games.

It really shows how few actual CFW dev's there are.

Yoshi, Dark Alex and anyone who has made significant progress with PSP CFW:

Custom firmware sucks now. Glad I'm getting a job and money soon so I can buy PSP Games now and I won't have to use the lame custom firmware (Yeah I pirate just like 95% of CFW users do, the "I buy them then rip them" shit is as true as Obama fixing America before 2012). OFW is 20x better imo now. Yoshihiro SHOULD quit for being a lil bitchass baby. Team GEN should also quit because nakedfarie is right they are stealers, he has good proof and I think they are the reason the great DA left the scene and unfortunately he is never coming back. (I remember the good old days where updates would come out 1 week or before the OFW came out and I was excited and whatnot...the man was a genius, he was cool..)
