Riviera: The Promised Land's promising screenshots |
Ó
Riviera: The Promised Land has come a long way from WonderSwan Color, to the Game Boy Advance, and now to the PlayStation Portable. The newest port boasts of new CG sequences, audio, and more. Today we've got some eye candy for the RPG lovers who've been waiting for the popular title.
For those who aren't familiar with the title, Atlus' Riviera: The Promised Land's story centers around five main characters: Ein, Fia, Lina, Serene, and Sierra. They are tasked to stop the demons from overrunning their world once again. The role-playing aspect of the game has a unique twist that makes it all the more fun: players can choose different actions or replies. In the screenshots, we see some of the interaction and then some.
Riviera: The Promised Land is set for a North American release on July, so here's to hoping the screenshots can tide you over until then. Enjoy!

Cant wait, the GBA edition was great.. to bad they didnt really boost all to much of it, but the full speech will be kinda nice
So far, it's looking pretty good. I heard that the music for Riviera was good, so I'm pretty excited about them using the soundtrack tracks for the in-game music.
I didn't get to play much of the GBA version, but what I've played of it so far, I liked.
BTW, on Atlus's RivieraPSP site, they mention something about a Riviera diorama being included with the manual on the first prints of the game. Anybody know any more info about this?
the gba version of the game isnt that good but the PSP version looks great!
What do you the psp version looks better it looks almost the same as the GBA version
not that that's a bad thing the game is great and you can tell how much effort people put into making the game just by the rom size
can't wait for release
its 97% the same game.. how can it look better
I already played on GBA and it was really bad. It's a game for kids, you "learn" to play RPGs in this. It's like a tutorial, lol. They even explain that it will attack when you select attack, lol. The game is bad... is WAY to easy and simplistic.
and i suppose you are the master of all RPGs? And are too experienced for games like these?
40% of all the RPGs i've played show you in the tutorial how to attack. Does that mean they're bad? No. Tales of the abyss showed you how to attack and it was a great game. FF tactics on the PSX showed you how to attack. and its the best FF game around.
It isn't just like the GBA game, at least some changes were made for the PSP's higher resolution screen. The drawn artwork at the very least has been re-rendered and has more detail. The backgrounds look like they have just been filtered up though (look a little blurry) and the sprites suffer the worst, I think they were only minimally manually touched up for higher resolution, they kinda look like an edge filter was applied to them...
I loved the GBA version. If there's much added stuff to this game I might try it, but otherwise, it's just playing the same game again...
The guy who said it was "for kids" didn't stick with it -- it gets quite a bit more challenging as you go on, especially if you are trying to get everything. It's *not* an RPG; people who put it in that category don't understand the game or can't come up with a better moniker. I'd say it's a tactical strategy game with very (very) light RPG elements -- it's about as deep as the average Japanese "dating sim", only without the porn part. I guess you get some different ending depending on which girl (did you notice all your companions are chicks?) you are nicest to -- I played up to the last level then got sidetracked by the latest shiny thing. Still, I'm glad about the time I did invest. Probably won't bother with the PSP ver unless they change more than they're saying they will...
