psptunesIf you're not familiar with iTunes, we don't know where you've been but welcome back. Anyway, PSPtunes v2.0 is a music player developed by Bigbondfan and it works and looks like iTunes. This flash application plays songs in your web browser.

Below is the installation plus usage procedure for PSPTunes. The full instructions on how to use this application is included in the download file and we suggest that you read it first (why do you think they call it read me file?) before you install PSPtunes v2.0 on your console. Your PSP must have have Firmware 2.7 or later and the Flash must be enabled.

Installing PSPtunes:

  1. Extract the files to somewhere on your hard drive
  2. Plug your PSP into your computer using the USB cable
  3. Browse to your PSP drive (usually E) and copy the psptunes folder to it. The index.html in the folder should be at E:psptunesindex.html.
  4. Unplug your PSP and go to the web browser
  5. Type the following address: file:/psptunes/index.html and press enter
  6. PSPTunes should load with your songs in!

How to use PSPTunes:

  1. Hover your cursor over a song and press X to play it
  2. The next and previous buttons allow you to change the track
  3. The pause button pauses the song, and play resumes it
  4. The volume slider at the button allows the volume to be controlled
  5. The song tracker underneath the song name displays the progress of the current song. Clicking on the tracker will  bring it to that part of the song.
This is just part of the read me text and we suggest you read the whole thing first before anything else. Since the author suggests that you compress music files, he's been kind enough to include a how-to file in doing that. Also, we don't  encourage illegal downloading of  copyrighted materials. PSPTunes is a music player that allows you to listen to music while using the Internet.

» This is great

I have been looking for a way to do this, and was finding nothing. It was getting to the point where I was going to dust off my Macromedia disc, re-install Flash, and do it myself. Thanks for this guys, it will save a lot of headaches for me.

You guys are the best!

» hmmm

Nice it's for the new firmware, but I cringe at the thought of upgrading again :-S....LOL. Good job making everybody feel like a part of the scene though, bet they appreciate it greatly :D!!

by yourname - 2006-06-28 01:14
» useless

wouldn't it be more convinient to put the mp3's in the PSP/music folder and play m with the PSP, rather than manually editing your playlist everytime? Or wait for the browser to start up, or use the inconvinient mousecursor? This is a website , not an application... if you do make a psp flash site, at least make it use the psp controls as much as possible... But that would be too difficult I guess for just a rebuild of the musicplayer example that comes with flash...

» .... ok im confused

for some reason, i installed it right, it works right, the songs are there, i even added my own, copying an pasting exact stuff, looking at what is exact and whats not

...but even the songs that i click wont play... is it ONLY for 2.70?

i have 2.71.... i hope that doesnt ruin it

by B.L.A.C.K - 2006-06-28 01:35

can people please stop making flash for the psp. its a pathetic excuse for homebrew and it is leaving the people who weren't idiots and upgraded without the game/app.

by Mastenbator - 2006-06-28 02:51
» Looks Good

Well does this have to be connected to your computer the whole time, and can you make playlist with this app? Unlike the PSP music u cant make playlist u need to run all music from a folder :-(

by Buzzfarve4 - 2006-06-28 03:19
» credit

well i am the buzzfarve4 from the PSU forums that made the thread about this, i submitted the info to you guys and you used my screens and you used my download file, i would like a little bit of credit, if it was not for me nobody woukd have this thing because the site for it went down and i had a personal copy sent to me from one of the creators.

Yes bigbondfan deserves most credit for creating this, but i would like my name mentioned for sumthing, please make me feel important, lol.

Also this is not version 2.0 of the PSPtunes, the first file i uploaded was called psptunes but i had to make a second one (hence the 2)because my first one had the songs inside it and i was not allowed to post copywritted matieral.

thank you

by buzzfarve - 2006-06-28 03:24
» wait

just forget about my last statment... as long as the info gets to the community it does not matter if i have credit.... I was being greedy.. sorry.. its not like i made the thing anyway... so yea forget about my last comment

» *shrugs*

its a pretty nice app, but its kind of a hassle to format all your mp3s for. im looking forward to future versons of this

by Rhino - 2006-06-28 07:13
» Installed right, But can't Play

Just like a poster above I have a 2.71 PSP and PSPTunes doesn't work. Is it only for 2.7 PSP?

by jake - 2006-06-28 07:39
» Toooo hard

Its too much of a hassle to add songs to the library....editing the .xml or .htm file........ ill only use a future version if adding the songs is as easy as in real iTunes.

» Neat

This is pretty good for what it does, I actualy kept my songs at around 80kbs and just have them in small 40 second clips, or where ever the closest break was. I can still load most sites and have music play... one problem though, I cant scroll down. EHeheh.
