Now, how would you feel if we throw in a PSP2 rumor courtesy of the above-mentioned site? We know a lot of hushed talks have been surrounding this topic for some time now and Sony just watered down these speculations at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). But hey, it's Kotaku - the one who got blacklisted for being correct.
With all that said, the gaming site is now reporting that various "third party and highly placed sources" confirmed that there is indeed a PSP2 currently in the works, and it's possible that it will be out during the fourth quarter of 2007. The sources added that the big announcement will happen at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and the new features to be presented are the following:
The screen is gorgeous- The loads are faster
- Improved buttons
- Internal flash of 8GB
- Possible touch-screen
- Possible built-in camera
- Uses UMD
23 Jumps Custom firmware 5.50GEN-D now out

I could see it all being true except for the touchscreen part, unless it was XMB specific. They're not going to make a product that outdates the PSP 1.
And it's still not 100% clear if the 8Gb is Gigabits or Gigabytes, but my guess would be Gigabits ie. 1 Gigabyte.

It would have to be 8 Gigabytes, 8 Gigabits would be usless on the psp for downloaded games and movies.
I would be happy with the new features. Only one thing bothers me about psp1, ghosting. I see it int everything. The screen looks great, but ghosting is a *****.

There's no reason for the 8GB to be gigabits, GB is generally accepted as gigabytes and using gigabits there would just be weird (isn't gigabits with a small b anyway? - Gb not GB).
I hope there's no touch-screen, that would force me to buy the new one, like you said.
The lack of homebrew that is undoubtedly going to come with a redesign (at least until its hacked, which could be a while if you think of the TA-082) is also bad.

I am NOT getting one until I see the 'supports MS Duo'. I really hope it doesn't have a M2 slot instead, that would be so typical of Sony if they do. That would mean about 4 times less storage than a duo, and about 2 years behind in terms of technology on the sticks. I wonder though, if they're bringing it out to have support for the new HG MS Duos?

Antialiasing for hardware (is too hard include it???).
No ghosting, ergonomic, good buttoms like dual shock, and 2 better sticks, bigger batery, pfff sony do something good with this plz.

I am also going to start saving up. If there is one thing PSP tought me, it is to go with Sony for handhelds ALL THE WAY. Also, Dark Alex and Fanjita will probably pwn a new PSP so quickly. I am all for all of those features although a touch screen would make a protective case a must have. Obviousley the graphics will also blow out any other competitor.
Sound more like an upgraded PSP1 (1.5) rather than a psp2 - with the exception of touch screen. The screen on the psp1 is gorgous, so id like to see this one. I feel a touch screen would be rather gimmicky with sony-style products, but we shall see.
Personally, like i said, it sound more of consolidated psp1 with more features. It doesnt sound like a next-gen psp - with the exception of a touch screen - which i highy doubt.

The 8gig of flash RUMOR came from a scanned purchase order from Sony to Samsung for a very large load of 8gigaBYTE flashram chips.
Those chips are currently being used in Sony's own 8gig MEMORY STICKS, not internal flash ram......
Loading faster just means speeding up the CPU and the drive read speed, which in turn means lesser battery power......
Builtin camera means killing the sales of the already released Chotto Shot, even Sony isn't THAT stupid.....

If they were to release a PSP2 this would make it possible to drop the price of the PSP which could also increase sales to par with DS. Of course the PSP2 would have a hefty price with features like that much like the PS3 did so I really don't know if Sony would want to take another loss. With a camera, 8GB and touch screen that would around the $350 range. Now if they take the look of the Mylo and add that keyboard then it would be worth the price tag of $350 or more.

Yes small b ++ bits, and large B + bytes, but every other PSP2/PSP-Lite rumor (inclucing the supposed mass purchase of 8Gb chips by Sony) aside from this one has used the small b, which is why it remains unclear.
At the time the mass purchase rumor was made, it actually did make sense for it to be 8Gb, since 4GB had just been released.

Look at their previous second edition consoles, the PSone came out just before the playstation 2 came out, the PSTwo came out just before the playstation 3 launch. Hello!! If they could make a touch screen TV then they could implement touch screen on the PSP. You don't need dual screens to be touch screen. One is sufficient.
its there way of insuring downgrading / hombrew dosnt happen. by redesigning the entire system. they will probly alow homebrew on a linux install to kill the posiblity of iso loading. like they did with the ps3.

i have 2 agree with u m8. I have a chotto shotto and an 8 GB ms duo, and there's already a touchscreen adaptor (not an official one) but no-one uses it. Infact ti got completely ignored by the time ti was off QJ's headlines
An 8GB memory stick costs over $300 USD. A redesigned psp with built in 8GB flash memory will (hopefully) cost less than that.

Well since it's just a modified PSP, any UMD should work fine in either one. They're not likely to be making an actual PSP2 but rather an updated PSP.

For PSP2 i would release 2008/2009
1) Internal flash HD or 2/4/8/16GB Flash disk.
2) More memory.
3) Extra controller stick. They could use a pop out stick that pop out from the side so it it looks like a ps2 game pad.
4) Maybe camera and microphone.
5) Buttons with LED so you can see them in the dark.
6) Remove UMD and use flash read only disks.
7) Touch screen or pop out keypad where the UMD use to be or even both. If no pop out keypad they could add a flip top keypad that also acts as protection.
9) Remove wifi and replace with network slot. You can buy card that allows user to use which ever wifi they want such as bluetooth, wifi (b ,g and n), later versions of wifi you can just buy the latest card.
10) In place of UMD space could inlcude 1 or 2 upgrade slots. Maybe for Freeview, Radio, Mobile Phone, GPS etc.
11) Upgraded multitasking OS that allows users to buy/install not just games but apps such as browsers, movie players, word processors etc.

At first the PSP came with homebrew ENABLED... This is why we can get PSP's so compatible... Sure the newer FWs that were hacked have SOME homebrew (wow, tiff homebrew pwns), but higher FWs can't run nearly as much as 1.50... what do you expect, to downgrade a FW 1.00 PSP2? The fact that we could run unsigned code in the beginning of PSP let us find out a lot about the FW of it from looking at it, which let us find out about later FWs and made it more easily hackable... it'll be nearly impossible to hack the first FW for PSP2 sony might make because we know nothing about it. Also, sony has learned it's lesson with PSP, and they will probably work extremely hard to prevent homebrew for v 1.00 so they can get it right the first time. I don't think there is any way to run ISOs on any FW other than 1.50 (correct me if I'm wrong) and ISOs are one of the main reasons why people like the PSP... they can have 3 or 4 games on one memory stick, without needing to carry around any discs... If we can't load ISOs on 1.51+, I'm very doubtfull we will be able to figure out how to run them on the PSP2's firmware, which is sure to crack down on homebrew a lot worst than the other FWs have.
This is the same site that basically approved Sony's debunking of this and said that it wouldn't happen and that's that.

ok this is excellent to correct the current shortcoming of the PSP.
1. TV OUT, like the iPod, shouldn't add a penny.
2. Touchscreen DEFINATELY. ALL handhelds have this, the DS, the iPhone will get rid off buttons in place of thouchscreen, and so on. Anyways whoever complains about touchscreen should get shot on the spot and doesn't deserve a PSP. Go stay with your crayons and playdough f.u.c.ktards!!!
3. Gyroscope like Wii controller and sixaxis. Again if the sixaxis have this the PSP SHOULD include this feature.
4. Rumble as well. A lot of gadgets come with vibration, many phones and so on. Also shouldn't cost a lot either.
5. Bluetooth 2.0, de facto standard on several gadgets. If a goddamm earphone can handle bluetooth the PSP shouldn't have a prob having it.
6. Wifi-Max a/b/c/n. Everything wireless currently is made with n draft so PSP can't be left behind.
7. ALL the buttons of sixaxis.
8. IR port.
9. USB host for multiple gadgets.
10. OLED screen to save battery.
11. Battery that lasts no more than a week, wireless charger capability. The battery should fully charged under 10 minutes
12. Microphone
13. Camera
14. Hi-Def headphones like Dolby Surround 7.1, and digital output.
15. Better speakers
16. Better resolution.
17. GPS integrated!! I almost forgot this one.
18. LIGHTER PLEASE and thinner like the iPod nano, now the thing is mad heavy, I feel like carrying a brick.
19. Instead of buttons make it like iPod, touch sensitive surface.

if sony does release a psp2, it will be hackable no matter what new "security" features and patches they put in to it-- every OS has vulnerabilities . Vista is supposed to be MS's most "secure" OS-- it wasn't long b4 hackers found critical security flaws in the OS-- soo yeah for those of you who think it will be impossible to hack the psp2(if it is even released) you are WRONG. Have you even been paying attention to PSP games coming out? Lately, we've had Ratchet and Clank, Metal Slug, Gurumin, Burnout Dominator, The Warriors, and Call of Duty is coming out tomorrow. The PSP is cranking out great games left and right..and it doesn't look like things are slowing down anything soon :)
if u have been reading any news u would know that sony is intrested in homwbrew! they would probably put some easy to hack firmware on it and let us have our way. if they don't we will hack it. think about it if every psp is like the TA-82 or the TA-86 we will all be working to hack it and do it in a lot less time.

the world is finally catching on. tablet pc's, pda's, the nintendo ds, and now the apple iphone. touchscreens are very useful. people like using them. i hope for a touchscreen more than any other feature on the psp.

well the difference being that
DS + $150 launch
PSP + $250 launch
DS Lite + $150 launch (or $130)
PSP2 + probably $350~$400 launch
Also all games workin on DSL work on DS, but if the PSP2 has touch screen then all games working on PSP2 probably wont work on PSP
Even if there is a psp2, I cant see how that would render our psp's useless. If the statements made are true then the game format remains UMD so u can still put games on ur memorystick, plus there might be even greater security on the new system and would take time to be hacked.

as with touch sentive butttons, like the ipod scroll pad thing...i dont think that would be good in gaming and might be awekard...maybe have it like the ps2 though n have touch sentivity like press square lightily to hold gun, push it hard to shoot. but the buttons on the PSP right now arent that good, they get stuck, scratches on the side of it making it hard to press... well the only thing im really concern about is that it is more stronger, the PSP right now break eaisly when u dro[ it.

It would be cool if the touchscreen they're talking about replaced the buttons, so the entire surface of the PSP was a touchscreen. That would be an innovative new thing for gaming. Custom buttons come up on the screen for every game. Fingerprints might get annoying, though. I personally believe the DS did a terrible job with the touchscreen idea. On every game I've played on the DS, the touchscreen is optional to use instead of the buttons. You can't really use the buttons and the touch screen on the DS at the same time, either.

SOny could have had this in the making for a little longer than we think, maybe, middle of last year, and is trying to stir up some anticipation so if it does come out, and it has thee same price range as psp, most likely sales will go up. Then again, they qould lose alot of money (sony's lost money with every system they've made; heard it on the news)

it seems like all this speculation is more what you HOPE Sony will do rather than what you KNOW Sony will do. let us not forget what happened with FW 3.00 speculation (for those who have been around long enough). those altered pics of the FW back in the days of 2.0 and 1.5 looked nothing like it actually is right now. just b/c Kotaku was blacklisted for something correct once does not mean that every time after that it will be true again. as well, if Sony stated that they were not developing a PSP2, and they actually were, the company could be charged for corporate malpractice, and that would damage Sony's rep. keep dreaming all you want, but it really just seems like another hopeless rumor. and btw, if all that stuff were added, Sony would have to redesign the whole thing anyway.

ok so many features you said... would probably make a psp over $1000. Secondly you cant have rumble and sixaxis(the reason being that the sixaxis had rumble removed to integrate the sixaxis motion sensing.). If you need sixaxis buttons how bout you buy a ps3 or just the controller to play with the buttons.
To the article... 8gb thats pretty big... now we can expect to pay $400 for a psp with all the 8gb flash and possible camera... this potential psp2 would be a big flop and sell a lot worse than the psp does... not that it sells all that bad anyway.
All these features that people want... they don't wanna pay any extra for it... so whats the point of wanting more stuff if you can't afford it?
i think adding touch screen would make a great addition to the psp. i could use ir shells universal remote better, otherwise a second analog stick is a much better idea, and mabe a couple of more buttons.

homebrew would never be disabled. Like the PS2, xbox, xbox360, wii, there are modchips. and even the snes and nes, ds, gba had those modified game cart that could hold a ***** load of roms.
OOPs i accidentally broke your PSP2 because it scared me because of the rumble and i dropped it... but yea ds had it. also there are some mods with the sixaxis controller with rumble and it wasnt too bad, and split fish is making some rumble add on thing for thosecontroller , they also made tilt devices for the PS2. although they look awkard...but thats off topic

Please no touch screen! First of all, way to many people would just complain about how they just take nintendos deas and stuff like that (like nintndo is the first ones to invent touch screen. They wasn't even the first ones with motion sensors, I'm not sure if it's worth anything, but i know i have seen a golf and fighting game on PS2 using otion sensors. Eye-toy is kinda the same thing too.
Tat's the first thing about it, but the other thing s that touch screen just ain't that fun. It works as a even more uncomortable analog than the PSP's analog or you could draw. Nothing really cool I think...

Don't you think Sony will have enough on it's corporate plate trying to calm the waters of the Euro launch of the PS3 (What a farce!), without trying to launch a PSP2 (be it lite or other wise).
Besides they have got to try and claw back some revenue from the PS3 before they even start to consider launching a new/redesigned handheld.
and remember that Sony want to try use the PSP to expand the funtions of the PS3 (bit like GB and GCube?) But what would be the point of such an announcement if a new Handheld was in the works?

I misread your post, but that gave me an idea: sony should incorporate a TV tuner into a psp. Sure, it would cost them an extra $15, but hey, who wouldn't mind paying an extra $20 or so to watch TV on the go? I mean, if cellphones can do it, then why not PSP. LOL, I remember when the PSP first came out, and all the rich kids had one, I had heard that it could play TV. When I won mine at a raffle, I was slightly disappointed that it didn't have any TV... The screen also looked a lot smaller once I actually saw it...

Think that was a place holder for a second nub? I think the PSP2 might use an extra nub there. BTW, what do you guys think of the possibility of a clamshell design?

I doubt it, I'll not be buying it anyway.. I dont see the point in them doing another PSP when this one asnt even lived up to its potential. Big Phil said they're not planning on making a PSP2 any time soon anyway.
