PSP2 craziness continues: rumor confirms, debunks rumors |
Ó
Now the rumors are being doused down with more set of rumors. It's getting crazy, and this ought to be just as exciting as the nearing Hatton-Pacquiao boxing match. Earlier, we posted an article on more juicy Insider Info on the PSP2. Is it or is it not real?
Now we have a post from PlayStation LifeStyle, and really, this could have passed as just another of those sites dishing out info through their anonymous sources. And their info does come from an anonymous source - one (or two, or three, or more) that they "are not at liberty to divulge."
What piqued our curiosity, though, was how matter-of-factly they dished out their info. Without the usual caveat of, "We'll let you know if we hear anything official from Sony." Instead, they pointed their attention to this article by PSPWorld that was with the objective of straightening out the "fact" versus the "fiction" in the growing PSP2 drama. They even have a matter-of-fact Artist's rendition of PSP2:
Wait..isn't that... an i...Phone...no, no. It can't be...
Here's what PSLS pretty much confirmed and concurred with as "facts" from that post:
- UMD is dead. Sorry folks, UMD IS dead, they got this one rightÂ…
- Touch Screen. PSPWorld states that this is a given as this seems to be the trend the industry is heading towards. Well Sony boasts it’s “Like No Other” and that is the truth, Sony doesn’t follow trends, it sets them. There will be NO touchscreen in the next PSP.
- “Monstrous Hardware Specs” If that were the case, it WOULD be the PSP2, and the next PSP is NOT the PSP2, it’s not the PSP-4000 either. In fact it’s something entirely unique.
- Release before Christmas 2009. We donÂ’t know an exact release date, but itÂ’s much sooner than anyone is expecting. One thing we are sure of is that itÂ’s definitely Going to be before Holiday 2009.
- Internal HDD. If UMD is dead, how exactly does PSPWorld think we are going to get our games on the new PSP? Sure Sony could pack in some form of memory stick with the new PSP, but that isnÂ’t practical. As Dave Perry has mentioned in the past, look for some type of solid state memory on board. It will also take some form of removable flash memory.
- Phone included. They got this one right also, but it wasnÂ’t a hard guess. There will be no built in phone in the next PSP, however you can always use Skype.
- Sliding Screen. They call this fiction, and unfortunately we cannot comment on this. We have to leave it at that.
- Dual Analog Sticks. Nope, not happening, at least not until the PSP2 which this isnÂ’t. Adding a second analog stick would alienate the current PSP lineup, which is going to get much more robust later this year. A lineup, that will play just fine on this new PSP, which is based on current PSP tech.
Last thing we would like to leave you off with isÂ…
We all know E3 is GOing to be filled with HEAVY announcements, potentially COLOSSAL even if weÂ’re lucky. DonÂ’t let all the MASSIVE amounts of rumors RAIN on your parade. ItÂ’s a great TIME to be living the PlayStation LifeStyle, so TUNE in as we bring all the news, LITTLE and BIG to you as things are set in MOTION every step of the way.
And the mystery only deepens.
They think they know, or they know for sure, either way, we're tagging this as Rumor for now.
If anything, the one thing for certain here is that it's E3 who's benefiting the most from all this. I think we just might see the best E3 yet.
Please, do not disappoint.

First post xD.
Hopefully this comes to be true. It'd be a new addition to my portable gaming systems.

i love how he was like...the next PSP is NOT the PSP2, it’s not the PSP-4000 either...dude doesn't know what he is talking about. It has to be either. It is either an iteration of the psp or the psp2. THEY may not be using those terms, but to say it is not and iteration or the next generation means that it does not exist. Something seems out of place in the whole post. My guess is it is a psp with a sliding screen and no umd. No other real changes. Which would make it the psp-4000.
Then it's probably a higher number, and the 4000 was an enhanced Brite, possibly with certain 'features' removed...
Also, what's up with the- *checks the source* -oh.
So uh, does this mean LBP PSP and stuff will be revealed at E3? Shadow of the Colossus port? The only thing I can get out of that last part is Heavy Rain and LBP. Ah well, guess we'll see when the time comes.
STOP POSTING RUMORS AS NEWS.
this ^
but please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, use TEMPERED GLASS! Plastic SUCKS! It's like my only request...do whatever else you want...but damn I hate the plastic screen. I would pretty much buy the next psp if it was the exact same thing as the fat but had a glass face.
Suck, and tend to be wrong.
That source website is also terrible. Just to put that out there.
sony puts out a new psp every 6 months. they wonder why last year they lost 2 billion. sonys starting to fail unfortunately
Nobody claimed it was real. They claimed it was a rumor. I like rumors, they are fun. Of course, I'm not stupid enough to believe them.
It is always funny when some idiot posting "First!" gets beat by someone else posting first...
Or were u being sarcastic?
could mean go!cam for US??
psp 3500. sonys rollin out psps faster than firmware updates
after so many let downs I'll have to wait until I see a real product but all these rumours mean something is for sure in the works and I am excited since sony will have "all your base are belong to us" in the handheld industry
im kinda crushed inside reading that the psp2/4000+1 wont have dual-analogs
I was being sarcastic ...
I hate people who write to be first
I mean come on, do you REALLY think the PSP2's going to release this year? And NO WAY can it not have 2 analogs.
When PSP slim was first announced. That thing is just a fusion of pictures from Google.
Oh yes by the way the concept design looks awful AKA looks pretty bad to play PSP with the buttons in such a small proximity.
Sony knows how badly we want dual analog sticks, this they know and they know well, they won't be forgetting about this.
So this whole rumor is bogus.
Oh yes, it does look good in one way but someone needs to fix the button layout.
Really come on, thats a bad concept for all those buttons to be so close.
Free and fear are right. Stop posting crap to start flame wars. Sure, it gets a lot of hits, but not because people are interested. Its because the internet loves a good flame war!
at least have support on the 3g networks e.g HSDPA or HSPA+ (i know it's still in experimental stage) for wireless internet connection at high bitrate both for net-browsing and multiplayer instead of relying on wifi/ wifimax
Yipeee 21st to post! Anyway, i've always noticed that the stronger Sony denies something exists, the more likely it's true, they usually make very few comments normaly, and now they got their 'angry' head on we know something's up.
i would say to mod it yourself rather than relying on Sony to make that request come true, that way you can have any PSP model you like
Don't think it's gonna happen 2009. Maybe christmas 2010, but never 2009.
Why?
1. They would pawn themself. The -old- PSP is still selling very good (especially in Japan) and it wouldn't make any sense to release a new machine, while the other one is still selling. Maybe it's no DS, but come on: half a million per month is not bad at all.
2. There would be much more rumors going around, especially from developer side. Either the PSP2 or whatever it is going to be called will come out without any launch games or the different developer are so tight-lipped that we do not hear any thing about the launch games. Christmas 2009 is in half a year! The production cycle for a launch games is much bigger, so the developer should have gotten dev kits like one year ago. Never.
I predict a price cut for the PSP and the PS3 and maybe in a year or two a new platform.
