PSP2 coming sooner in 2011? |
Listed in: PSP Tags: PSP2, Sony

If they turn out to be right and all goes well, then as early as middle 2011, we might be getting it in our hands.
"The handheld is likely to be launched in middle 2011 and new market entry in late 2011. Kaz Hirai, Sony's PlayStation division boss, recently talked about the portable gaming. Hirai even divulge the features and design that is on PSP2. Hirai revealed that the PSP at this time, both variants of the PSP-3000 and PSP Go, get older and need rejuvenation effort. Not to mention a competitor Sony, Nintendo will release 3DS platform next year.
'Games are played on the Android platform and Apple are fundamentally different from the world of immersive games. Sony Computer Entertainment, and PlayStation, aims to point to that direction,' said Hirai."
Keep your fingers crossed that this be true. The sooner the PSP2 gets here, the better the chances are for Sony to regain their crowning glory in the handheld front.

No "sooner" doesn't matter much.
It need to show at least half the numbers of 3DS lined up & launch Titles.

(There are over 90 games announced)
rushing to launch earlier without strong titles won't help them much against 3DS.

Really? You want to rush it? Really?
I understand you want it as soon as possible, but it's not gonna race with the 3DS. There are no solid game announcements. The system itself is barely officially confirmed(we don't even have a real picture for it).
And somehow you think rushing it out will help.

Personally I'll probably wait, and hope that PSP1 titles plummet in price on PSN. It would be nice to have some backward compatibility as well so that any games purchased on PSN can be transferred across to the new unit.

For me, although I bought the PSP1 on release date, I'll probably hold off on the PSP2. Perhaps I'll wait for a revision to come out or an abundance of interesting games that I want.

what do you mean about regaining any crowning glory? Sure the PSP (including it's reiterations) were good gaming systems but I don't think they ever surpassed the NDS in numbers, popularity, loading times, touch gaming, or glory. It's always been second place in my mind.
So the line should read that Sony has a chance at being the portable that kicks the 3DS.
If you add in the multimedia functions of the PSP like music and video playback then then perhaps it has that glory. But in any case that glory wasn't ever lost to the NDS. As it still really doesn't have any.

games that are immersive but still accessible to the masses.
not that i'd want any of that. give me games as obscure as possible. with weird extras and strange scripts, and dashing music.
that's what ps1 was all about
show me your heart sony
