PSP Weekend Warrior: of new games, UMD suckage, and a tie-in that I just don't quite understand |
Ó

After the past couple of rumor-filled weeks, we have surprisingly little in the way of rumor mill handouts this past week. I didn't hear anything about PSP-4000s or PSP2s during the past week. Now I'm actually starting to miss David Perry. (no, not really).
What we did get though are a lot of new games, both confirmed and unrevealed. We also get a weird PSP tie-in from Sony and car manufacturer Citroen, another denial of the PSP Phone, and an admission from Sony UK that maybe, just maybe, UMD wasn't such a hot idea after all.
HARDWARE

- French car manufacturer Citroen is teaming up with Sony to make a spin-off of the C-Crosser SUV, supposedly customized to be PSP friendly. The SUV's price? A whopping US$ 43,340. Link.
- Sony: "There is no PSP Phone. Now go away." Well, they didn't exactly say that last part, but you get the idea. Link.
- And here's another one from Sony: Ray Maguire, Sony UK's senior VP and MD, admitted to a couple of things during a recent interview, like how UMD was a bit of a bad idea. Link.

- Haha! Called it! Electronic Arts has formally confirmed that EA Montreal is now working on Army of Two: The 40th Day. Even cooler, it's also getting a PSP spin-off! Link.
- We also heard during the week that Tecmo is also readying to reveal a new game on march 24. No word yet on the platform, but the big reveal is happening at the PlayStation Store at the Metreon, so hopes are still high that the PSP gets it. Link.
- Eurogamers (gamer in Europe, I mean, not the gaming website) are getting something special when Resistance: Retribution hits next week: a Collector's Edition pack. Link.
- And speaking of Resistance: Retribution, it turns out that PSP Phats (or PSP-1000s, if you're of the formal persuasion) are compatible with the game's PSP Plus feature after all. Link.
- Yes, there's a PSP version of LittleBigPlanet coming. But that's not the only thing up Media Molecule's Sackboy-filled sleeves. Link.

UMD doesn't suck. I have a 4 GB memstick and even that is far too inconvenient to replace easily swappable 1.8 GB games
I think the UMD is actually a pretty cool idea. People today are too freakin impatient and can't wait for the load times. I remember the days when I would wait 20 minutes for Tunnels of Doom to load from an audio cassette tape on my Texas Instruments Computer. Anything is faster than that. Yeah, I'm old.
