Looking for a new plugin to add on your list? Well, here comes Mootjeuh and Team PCT's own version of Screenshot Plugin, a nifty app that allows you to take screenshots in JPEG format while inside the PSP's XMB and in-game.

Developer's note:

Hi all, today the Team PCT contacted me and asked me if I could create a plugin that takes screenshots while in the XMB and in-game. This one takes screenshots in jpeg format, because it's in a much better quality than png images and almost the same size. So just to be clear, I coded this, but the Team PCT gave me the idea. Of course there will be updates, and they will be much more better than this basic plugin.

You need to pull the left trigger to take a screenshot.

Not trying to rip on you, but jpeg and png can be better depending on their usage.

Png is great for screen captures of text or sharp edges that don't have a lot of colors, think desktop screenshots or forum captures.

Jpeg is in fact lossy, but it also blends and softens edges usually resulting in pixelated edges when magnified, but at actual size it's pretty good for actual pictures (like a digital camera photograph)

It's all about using the right format for the job, a photograph will be a huge png file and will index each color, but to the naked eye a high quality jpeg can appear almost identical and save you 75% of the file size but should only be used with photos or graphics.

Just as well, a desktop capture at 72dpi will look like total crap saved as jpeg, the text will barely be readable and will almost hurt to read

both are correct,but i really liked the explanation, anyway in this case PNG would be better since the image is so small that space economy would be trivial

Jeez, people re-release stuff for no reason, do something innovative that'll sure be an awesome plugin/hb app.

As stated above, PNG is better. Maybe the dev meant to say that the JPG was similar in quality, and less file size?

It doesn't save screenshots in PNG because the programmers do not know how to save in PNG. A better plugin would give the user more choice in picture format, including PNG, BMP, TIF and GIF.

Also, JPG introduces artifacts such as color banding and noise around edges. JPG is useful for photographs, but the PSP mainly outputs 3D graphics and pixel art, which JPG shouldn't be used on.

Another thing, the PSP's rez is 480x272. A PNG image at that rez will only top around 100kb, which is hardly a nuisance.

GOW too uses left trigger a lot.

Custom firmware Extender 3.3, prxutilitiy++, cwcheat. screen capture isn't new, even 3.71m33 back then has a screenshot plugin

Well first of all, I'd like to thank you all for your replies.
I used the JPEG format because I thought that it was lossless, and therefor better than PNG.
Anyway, there's now a new version that allows you to chose your own combination to take a screenshot.
My guess is it'll be on the homepage soon, but you can download it directly here.
In the next version, I'll use the PNG format, promised ;)

Thank Goodness that it lets you choose the combo for ss.
JPEG is cool. Maybe next time resolution setting would be available for pics good enough to be used as desktop wallpapers? :)

But why does the notepad file 'Combo' says left_trigger ??

That's just an example of wich button will take the screenshot, you con replace that with another like "note", or "screen".

where do i put the respective files.i had tried putting both in seplugins and created game.txt. when i start a game my psp hangs. can anyone tell me where to put each files
