Homebrew coder BuDdA has dropped by our forums to release a new version of HostCore, a handy homebrew app, originally coded by Poison, that allows you to access music files, videos, games - on your PC straight from your PSP. The latest update now supports custom firmware 5.50 GEN-D3.

Developer's note:

"Well here it is HostCore for 5.50gen-d3. it was done with modification to the original source from Poison. Contains all the original features from the previous version plus the 5.50 compatibility. I only did modification to the usb portion so wifi may or may not work. It's only been tested on a psp phat. if you're having problems with it on a slim. or wifi isn't working correctly let me know i'll see what i can do. BTW I'm not a programmer nor do i claim to be one. I just wanted to get HostCore working on 5.50. it should also work on older CFW versions as well."

BETA 2 Update
decided hostcore wouldn't be hostcore without wifi, so i have gotten it to work with phat. still a few bugs and slim compatibility issues but hopefully will have it fixed with next update.

Let me get this straight... You can run games from the PSP using your PC ? Like an emulator ?? Interesting... However, it's a PlayStation PORTABLE for crying out loud ! PORTABLE. Might as well buy a component cable and play on the telly (or a PS2, PS3, etc).

Unless you have a PSP 1000 (no TV-Out) or it's really really broken, like the screen, buttons, the joystick, etc. Then such a feature would probably be useful.

U got it backwards.

This allows you to access "GAMES" "MOVIES" ad "MUSIC" that are on your computer from your PSP via USB or WiFi.

Okay, he said "you can run games from the PSP using your PC".

Anyways, this seems interesting. I haven't used it yet, but how does the WiFi connecting works? I seem to remember a PSP homebrew that allowed the PSP to connect to your computer and control it with designated controls. It was fun playing PC games on the PSP :P

It not useless. For people that wish to patch games and make games smaller it is fastest method to rebuild and test because it require no transfer to mem card.

What hostcore does is let you store psp games on your pc and play them on your psp over USB or wifi
so let's say you only have a 1g stick but want to play a game that's 1.4g with hostcore you can. There are many other reasons as well.

Oh, so the music files, videos and games are stored on the PC and are played from the HDD, not the other way around. I remember IR Shell had something like this but was called something else (USB host?).

Yes this is basically USB and wifi host except the games, music, Pictures and videos will show up in the psps menu instead of you having to open up a separate program to see them.

"to install just overwrite the old hostcore.prx with the one included"

That's it? You're not going to explain you need the original files and that this is just an updated prx? No wonder people here is clueless regarding wtf this is....
