Head's up folks! Homebrew coder extraordinaire wololo and his team is back once again in the homebrew scene to release revision 95 of their Half Byte Loader project, along with the release, the team also updated wMenu to version 0.2, which now allows you to "add as many wallpapers as you want in the “Res” folder."

Developer's note:

With this new revision of Half Byte Loader, I’m happy to announce that picodrive finally has sound. Be sure to select 44kHz in your settings though, because the 22kHz mode might sound funky…

Additionally, I fixed a regression introduced in R94, which prevented some homebrews (such as PSP KVM or GoEar) to run. For those who want the technical bits, there was a problem with the way I violently decided to unload all libraries between each homebrew :D

This revision also fixes saving issues with Snes9xTYL (and maybe other homebrews).

Finally, the distrib version of Half Byte Loader 95 ships with wMenu 0.2. Check this article for details on wMenu 0.2, but basically the major improvement here is that you can add as many wallpapers as you want in the “Res” folder.

And in case you were still wondering what are the best brews for the Half Byte Loader project, check out this list of "15 Essential Homebrews that run on Half Byte Loader" courtesy of wololo and his team. Enjoy.

Big thanks to Cynthia for the tip!

Great article Ryan!

Compatibility in this revision is very high, anyone who was hesitant to upgrade past r85 should give this version a shot.

Majority of apps will now return you to the wMenu but only if you exit through the emulator (not by using the home button)

MasterBoy v2.10 (the ff13 version has problems with save states) can replace smsplus and Homers RIN, but sometimes hangs on exit.

i always wanted a gba emulator that works with my pp go =P the one they mention works amazing on all versions of HBL on any psp firmware (excluding the newest) but the only thing it doesnt have is battery support (like the internal battery that keeps track of the time on pokemon games)

Try "Gpsp kai 3.2 64M test 02"
It should be available here on QJ in the DL section, don't forget to put the BIOS in the emulator folder.
MH gpsp is kinda unreliable at the moment. The internal battery clock should work on this version, I haven't seen any problems firsthand. let us know if this worked for ya. ;-)

you may have to upgrade to OFW 6.20 to use Rev 95, I believe older versions of HBL work on your current FW, but not many HomeBrews will load.
