Price drop confirmed for PSP Go in Japan |
Listed in: PSP Tags: psp go, SCEJ
Ó

According to SCEJ, PSP Go will now be priced at JP¥ 16,800 (US$ 200/ UK£ 132). This is obviously in the hopes that the lower price point will lure in new consumers amd thus buoy up sales numbers for PSP Go, which has so far been miserable since it launched last October.
So far, the price drop is confirmed only for Japan. Still no word on whether Europe and NOrth America will be following suit, but we'll be keeping you updated on that.

Thats pretty much the only way I use my PSP now.
I almost never use the UMD drive.
The biggest problem I see is sony is almost guaranteed to abuse that to control your options for using your own console and make it difficult to access things that you already paid for like steam does sometimes and how sony already did with the other OS.
I would prefer the games to have some sort of physical hardcopy, but I'm sure sony wont adopt a medium that seems to much like a cartridge.
It wouldn't look like the next gimmicky step in technology.

It would still tether you to owning or having access to a PC, but that wouldn't be much different to tethering you to broadband access and you would have a physical backup.

My guess is they'll abandon optical media altogether, but stick to physical copies.

Hopefully.
Thats almost what they did with the go, except they did it all bassackwards and screwy without physical copies and with the uncommon more expensive expansion slot media.
The kernal of the idea had some potential though.
Lets cross our fingers that next time they think things through a little further first.

It should have cost US$150.00 from the beginning.
A Walmart where I live has them on sale for $200.00, and the digital games should be cheaper.
PSP Go is soo cool. I have mines, and it "looks" COOL! It just needs cheap software.
I have re-playable games on mines, but it defeats the purpose to have a stylish device with nothing to do on it because of low support.
The new, and old price never made me upset. I was lucky enough to pay US$130.00 for mine, by considering what they do, they should all cost that much.

This device should have premiered at $149.99.
On top of this, the 'PSN' product model that they are desperately pushing for this device should have been fleshed out and LOADED with games for the PSP Go at LAUNCH. This list will become exhaustive if I continue.
So, I will just say as an actual owner of this overpriced and gameless paperweight, I am/was extremely dissappointed. But, I am so glad that they released it and handled it the way they did.
Why?
Because, I got the opportunity to get a first-hand look at how Sony operates and treats their most loyal first adopters. With this, I will never trust Sony again. Period.
I greatly anticipate the arrival of the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo has a proven track record of supporting their customer base. Also, the PSP is very much dead from a hardware standpoint.
As for PSN, im no longer concerned with that. Thanks to Wololo, TN, and the crew that my PSP Go will be FULLY functional in a couple of weeks. If it were not for those guys, my PSP GO would've LONG been Craiglisted. Fact.
