Ó

PMFJoeyT2005 and mupet0000 have released a very interesting codec, that I'm sure will be used by a lot of you. Essentually what this is, is a decoder that allows you to play PMF files (Playstation Media Files) in the H.264 format on any media player on your PC. The problem before was the audio didn't work, but now this allows for the audio to be heard crisp and clear. In our tests it worked with all PMF files used, and the install is simple and hassle free. Requirements are only 2mb of free space.

Download: [PMFplay H.264 Decoder]

Thanks to JoeyT2005 for emailing this in to us...

...then the encoder isn't far away! Keep the good work!

» No sound

This is really good, now there is no need to waste time transcoding movies to huge AVI files to be able to play them with Lande PMF player.

I don't get any sound though.

Glad that this has worked out so well! Enjoy it!

» No sound!!

no sound here either...

by ro0kie42 - 2006-06-04 09:01
» There's no sound

I can only get video to work. Probably 'cause I can't install msvcr71.dll (from the file) on account that it's being used (even AFTER I exit everything and I have one in my Windows/System32 folder already

by mupet0000 - 2006-06-04 09:12
» Sound

The "msvcr71.dll" is NOT required to be installed if it is already in you system32 directory.

There is a slight bug with this release as it does not come with the required codec to play the sound.

by simmcity - 2006-06-04 09:14
» cool ure pants

Its just a elecard codec . Ive used it to play PMF's a long time ago. The only way to make the sound work is if u can get the properiatary AT3 codec working.

BTW: if u see a cube like logo in the video. Guess what logo that is...

» omg

Has joey gone and done it again? ffs.

He didnt tell me he used somebody elses codec. He told me he made the icon.

I am gonna kill him.

by u - 2006-06-04 09:31
» Hmmm

Are these two the pair that told everyone they made a player to play pmf files, when actually all they had done was change a few things in media player?

by mupet0000 - 2006-06-04 09:43
» wa

We made a PMF player, no we didnt change anything in media player.

Baiscly it used somebody elses (yeah someone elses) exe and dll to decode a PMF and then play it.

He told me he made them himself both, but no. I just worked on making it look nice and i was gonna make this one look nice as joey was gonna bring out a nice player for it he told me. If he wants to do it, i am no part of it any longer.

by Hmmm... - 2006-06-04 09:53
» Hmmm...

This excites me, because something like this may eventually lead to being able to convert h.264 files INTO .pmf format, and that could be pretty interesting to play around with when editing the eboots of files, for animated icons and what not.

by pmf agent - 2006-06-04 09:56
» audio codec please

Hey mupet0000 you said this does not come with the required codec to play the sound.

I don't care how this thing came about. It plays pmf files that's all I care about. So can you tell us the link to get the correct codec to make the sound work.

This one does not work :

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Sony_ATRAC3_Audio_Codec.htm

so if you can share which one does work. Thanks.

i downloaded the audio link and the H.264 Video Decoder still no sound !

by $n!pR - 2006-06-04 11:10
» Ok I know what he did....

He took the evaluation version of the elecard codec (which is why theres that ugly logo) and bundled it with some other files, then used a free version of Clickteam Install Creator to create the 'installer'.

i was looking for one of these yesterday lol well beter late than never right? This is going to be very usefull! good job!

by RaiderX - 2006-06-04 13:47
» its great

well he pretty much did just throw other peoples stuff together, but it works! except souind, I want soem sound, Ive had the AT3 codec for a while. I use it to save AT3s in GoldWave for custom eboot sounds, but yea, the codec doesnt work for this.

also, the codec only works with windows media player for me. I can get it to play on any other media player, winamp, VLC, quicktime. o well

Oh and luckily, the codec works for my converter, so I can now convert PMFs to MPG! but still, no sound... fix that sound, and ur a PSP god!

» Sound Schmound RaiderX

Post a tutorial on that so people can start making .PMF icons for homebrew eboots

by $n!pR - 2006-06-04 15:25
» Hmm...

Well, at least I managed to get rid of the ugly logo =]

by Illegal Machine - 2006-06-04 18:39
» o wait

I guess you can't convert TO .PMF huh

by CyRu5 - 2006-06-04 19:03
» FFDSHOW

ffdshow decodes both video and audio.

CoreAVC decodes the video better than ffdshow and PMFplay both.

by Lukahn - 2006-06-04 21:15
» PMS

The next step would be decoding .PMS , so we can watch UMD movies on PC. UNIVERSAL media disk should mean just that.

by dds - 2006-06-04 21:52
» so no sound

so does this mean there is still no sound :( ?

by I NEED AN ENCODER - 2006-06-04 22:10

now we need only a decoder and boom, custom gameboot I come

by Unknown - 2006-06-04 22:35
» PS2

Does anyone here get the sound to work? Btw i know this is little offtopic but are there pmf files in ps2 also coz i cant find any in my disc.

by RaiderX - 2006-06-04 22:59
» @Illegal Machine

PM me on the forums so we can talk more directly, but as it is, I can only make AT3 sounds for eboots and convert FROM PMF to other formats, no converting TO yet. Im thinking a good coder could reverse the process though, but its kinda like when you learn to read you still dont know how to fully write.

by Codec9 - 2006-06-05 01:45
» Interesting... What about a pmf muxer???

Hmmm, I think its not hard to create your own pmf files. There are existing some h264 encoders out there.x264, Nero AVC, Elecard, ...

Encode the video to AVC and then use Sonicstage to get the audio into the right format: Atrac or Atrac+ maybe?, I don´t know.

The only thing which is needed to get the movie working is a MUXER,

which can combine the avc video and atrac audio in one file and writes the PMF File Header....

By the way is there a homebrew pmf player existing for fw 2.01 till 2.6???

Ps: I hope there will be a prog which can mux pmf files, cause Avc is definitely the better codec. ASP codecs like Divx or XVid are only great with higher bitrates. In my case I watch Avc movies on my psp, because of the smaller filesize and better quality.Maybe after the fall of umd videos, Sony will remove the resolution limitation in their pspown player....

» Surprise!

This has been out for a while now, actually. It's called "MPlayer" and it's an open-source video/audio player. These guys just made a frontend for it that doesn't do anything MPlayer can't do. Meanwhile, while they were making it, they kept claiming it could ENCODE PMF files. No such luck. Best bet is that they were lying.

Oh, and no sound? Not all that surprising, given their past record.

by Ryalla - 2006-06-05 04:30
» MPlayer

MPlayer has been out for a very long time and it's purpose ISN'T to encode .pmf files. MPlayer is an open-source video/audio player that uses codecs from windows and linux. That's all it is. Unless somebody makes the codec to get full .pmf audio, it can't play the .pmf audio.

by bobknob - 2006-06-05 05:21
» lame

Yeah, the audio is crisp and clear SILENCE.

by elecard knows ;) - 2006-06-05 15:03

wonder wht elecard thinks of there filters being ripped and hacked ??

to #32

Yes, coreAVC is the best decoder out there. It doen´t need much processing power and so its possible to watch High resolution Avc movies with slower machines...

If you watch a pmf file two codecs are used video and audio. So the right audio codec is needed.I don´t know, if the proper audio codec (atrac 3), i think is avaiable. The point why you can watch the video is, that the stream is a normal h264 video....

I hope someone can create a proper muxer with the pmf specs...

....

by Cyanide - 2006-06-06 21:18
» cant fault that...

for once, i cant fault that, well done guys, PMF converter is getting close now.

by Ikariya - 2006-06-09 08:34
» omg, what lamers...

I'm sorry to say, these guys are merely seeking fame.

My eyes lit up when I saw this page, but my hope quickly dwindled when I realized they simply packaged already existing software + codec, and claimed it was their own... Blatant lies like that are a disgrace! :/

None of this is new, I have played .mps (UMD movie) on my PC before (though with glitches and some instability). You can extract the raw video stream from the .pmf and play it that way also.

BUT as of now I don't believe there is any way to mux a .pmf/.mps that works, OR get any audio playback happening on your PC. I read that the audio codec is Atrac3Plus, for which there is no publicly available decoder/encoder.

So, for playback I guess the PSP is the only way to get sound... and encoding, well, is impossible.
