Phantasy Star Portable 2 coming this year? |
Ó
That's right, appreciate the multiple stresses on that "2" attached to the PSP. While we have no official word from Sega regarding the reported sequel for their action RPG title, we did pick up that the budget priced PSP offering will have an opening cinematic for PSP2 (obviously not PlayStation Portable 2). And get this, they're even reporting of a Winter 2009 release window!
Again, until Sega officially signs, seals and delivers good word on this, we're hard pressed to tag this under rumor. Nonetheless, it's nice to have it on board our rumor-wagon, right?
The Video UMD is said to have a total of 63 minutes in running time. Phantasy Star Portable was released in Japan last year, while the US and EU only got it this March and April, respectively.

Hell. Yes. Phantasy Star Portable 2, baby. Though unlikely, I really wish this one will be a port of PSO instead. However if anything, perhaps Sega will include the stages from the old game (that they SHOULD HAVE HAD in PSP1. How are you gonna let me dress up as a HUmar and NOT let me run around a remake of Forest 1, Sega!?)
hopefully the second installment of the game will support online play -.- this game could have been amazing if they would have added online support. i know there are ways to play adhoc games online but when a game comes with it built in, there are always 10x as many people playing it online.
Every time I hear or see "portable" or "freedom" and even "dissegaia" or (whatever that last ones supposed to be) it usually means watered down to fit the PSP with some method that makes the graphics appear with dots, similar to viewing things from a fishing net. I understand making things perform well is probably top priority in making PSP games, but is it really necessary to dumb down to what looks like 16-bit mode? This drives me to ditch my PSP and play a PS3. For an art-appreciative person like myself, I cannot stand this and I ponder why everyone else can. Game-play and story are not enough to keep my attention (screw FF7. booooring). Is that why? I play MHF because of it's thrilling monster battles with (aside from gravity) semi-realistic physics and environmentally perfect instrumental pieces - what game has these things in one?!
The "fish net" filter is the dithering used to make 16-bit graphics more pleasing to the eye. Compared to 32-bit graphics it saves memory, which can be used for more/higher quality textures and models and for special effects. Also, it reduces the amount of time to "paint the pixels" (in basic terms), so it helps if there are a lot of translucent or "cut-out" shapes such as windows, hair or grass. It also helps if you have a bad engine with lots of overlapping objects (overdraw), but there are other/better ways of fixing that.
But I'm guessing you wanted to say "pixel fill-rate" and "tearing". Nice use of the laymans terms. Bravo, man.
