A screencap from the trailerWe previously wrote about Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded for the PSP. and just recently, we saw a trailer that got us all excited. Apparently you can play a few of the games, like the arcade shoot-em-up games, in a "vertical" mode.

Even if you knew nothing about CCCR, you can guess a few things by the name of the game:
  • It's a collection of Capcom's classics.
  • Chun Li is in it.
Actually, it's the second classics collection (the first was Capcom Classics Collection for PlayStation2 and Xbox; I don't know why they didn't call it "Capcoms Classics Collection 2" or something like that; maybe they're just big fans of "The Matrix").

The collection spans Capcom games since 1984 (were some of you even born yet?). There are at least 15 games in this release; that includes Commando, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Street Fighter II (it made us nostalgic to see both Hyper and Champion modes in the trailers we've seen so far), Mercs, 1942, 1943, Eco Fighters, Higemaru, Gun Smoke, SonSon, King of Dragons, Exed Exes, Knights of the Round. It's definitely a worthwhile collection for your PSP promising "hours of nostalgic gameplay."

Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded is scheduled to be released October 24, 2006.

As for the trailer, it's a very recent Japanese one. If you don't know Japanese, you can still look at the pretty images. I'm not leet enough to embed that video here, so you can check it out at our download site. It's a .MOV file, so you'll need QuickTime or something similar.

I'm not even gonna bother with this collection...I can play most of those games on NJ's CPS1 & CPS2 emulators. The only game I would ever consider playing on that collection is Gun.Smoke. I've wanted to have Knights of the Round on the go for awhile now and that runs great on the CPS1 emulator. I'm sorry but I won't be one of those suckers who falls for all these collections. There's probaby just one or two games that interest you and you go out and buy it just for that one game. And that's exactly what these companies what you to do, waste money so they can say their plan was a sucess. Put together a collection that everyone will pay money for like throwing together all three Street Fighter III games. Or putting together all the Marvel fighting games. I see the Street Fighter Alpha collection was a good try by Capcom but who in their right mind would perfer that over Street Fighter III. I know that the Marvel fighting series will never happen due to them not having the exculsive rights to developing Marvel games. But that's what NJ's emulator is for. Capcom needs to take some lessons from SNK. SNK is smart, they're releasing all 6 Metal Slug games on a collection for the PSP. Now that's a collection I would not mind wasting my money on. Too bad they're not throwing Metal Slug 6 in there (MS6 is actually the 7th game in the series considering there is Metal Slug 1,2,3,4,5, & X).

That's the exact same thing I was thinking when I read the list of games in the collection. NJs emulators are great and you can customize the collection with the games you want. So you are not stuck with 2 you like and 6 or 8 you don't. Also I didn't know about the metal slug collection that's a great collection I loved those games.

In Sony's defense, they're obviously not catering to the homebrew community and "filling in the gaps" by packaging only games that haven't been emulated yet.

1997, As Street Fighter III : New Generation.

I didn't like it very much to be honest.

SF2 was the pinnacle of the series.

7, you said SF2 is the pinnacle; Let the people be the judge of that: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ElsA0rSGqjc No fighting game can top the excitement that is SFIII:3S

... um, yeah. Or you could do a collection OTHER than \"Third Strike and two completely useless redundant games as far as most of the world is concerned.\" Or give SF3:3S the SFA3 home treatment, and add World Tour, Dramatic Battle, etc. and make it a worthy stand-alone purchase.

On topic ... excited about vertically-held games? The first one had that too. But it\'s good to see again, that\'s what separates the decent collections from the Emu-fests. Resolution adjustments, unlockable stuff about the back history and creation of the games, etc. It\'s the little things like that which mean something to the \'old fogies\' that played these games back in the day, when gameplay was more important than the number of pixels your console could potentially produce.

Infact if there was no Street fighter 2 there would be no street fighter alpha etc. I can also say that if there was no street fighter 1 there would be no street fighter at all.

# Waste of money for 1.00 to 2.60 PSP ownersGuest 2006-08-10 04:56
This is probably good news for people with the newer updates, since they can't benefit from emulators...but most of us in the PSP homebrew/emulation scene can already play all these titles and more...for free. All it takes is a couple of downloads, putting it into the MS and you're done...Waste of money, if you ask me. When is Capcom gonna give us something more recent and demanded by the true fans, like Street Fighter III, SNK Vs. Capcom, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 or something the likes of Resident Evil? I think their only good releases so far have been the remastered versions on MegaMan and the new Monster Hunter series...Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max was nice (even though it was badly stretched out)but everything else is just old and moldy....C'mon Capcom...What's going on?

CCCP is the way you write the transliterated USSR in the cyrillic alphabet. Aamof, I'm wearing a CCCP* shirt right now. What a coinky-dinky.
