New God of War pictures of mayhem and destruction (YAY!) |
Listed in: PSP Tags: EGM, Kratos, Sony
Ó
Consolewars managed to procure some scans from gaming magazine EGM, showing off even more of everyone's favorite half-naked Greek protagonist Kratos. Yep, he's in his fighting skivvies once more, and he's out to smite his enemies big time in Sony's God of War: Chains of Olympus.
What's in the pictures? In addition to death and mayhem enough for everyone, the scans also show Kratos fighting against Persian soldiers and what looks to be a goat man with triple-edged katars. Obviously, katars are no match for chain blades, but we'll leave the gruesome death of the poor little goat man up to you.
In the meantime, enjoy the scans, and try to read the captions. They give some extra insight into what else is going on in these pics.

The only time it looks like PSP gfs is when it's zoomed up and you can see the textures/poly's.

It's not OUR fault that the Ps3 isn't selling as much as the Wii.
(No, I'm not bashing the Ps3. I think it's pretty good, because you can install linux on it.) PSP God of War is looking sweet. Ready at Dawn have done the graphics justice here. Usually PSP graphics look all blocky around the edges. Untold Legends being one such example.

I don't like much of what's on the Wii (mine is collecting a nice layer of dust), but you're just biased.

You seem like the kind of fellow who has objected to playing the Wii or the NDS simply out of spite. I suggest you actually try the thing.
Between me and my friends, we own a PSP, three DS's, a Wii, two XBoxes, a couple PS2s, and a 360. The Wii, everyone admits, is more of a party machine than anything else at this point. Its low price point and innovative (has anyone else designed a motion sensing and orientation tracking controller? Not even SIXAXIS can claim to know where the screen is) controller make for gameplay to be very interesting. However, due to a lack of third party support, the only games that are really fun happen to be the ones that are best played in a group.
The NDS doesn't have a FF7:CC, or FFT, POPS, a ton of emulators, or anything like that, but it DOES have a ton of single-cart multiplayer games. PSP can't claim that. It also has a ton of fun pick-up-and-go games, like Lost in Blue, The New Super Mario Brothers, and Custom Robo. There's always Puzzle Quest, but the game cheats.
The PSP has a few knock out hits too, like Lumines, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, Me and My Katamari, but its higher price point, and the fact that in some areas no one else owns a PSP kind of keeps people shying away from it. Likely, the lower price point of $139 in some places will start to see a shift in paradigms. While I am the only one of my friends who owns a PSP, one of them is planning on getting a PSP when he gets a job this summer.
Truth be told, the PSP actually has had very few "AAA" productions. The reason Nintendo sales are up is because it has a lot of good games. Phoenix Write, Trauma Center, Advance Wars, and Tetris DS help with that. The DS is the Dreamcast of portables: lots of different and creative games that keep people entertained. The PSP is more of a traditional console, where it's try to be the biggest and the flashiest. Both approaches work, the DS just got lucky because of it's lower price point and wider appeal (well, viral marketing doesn't help Sony either).
So, do me a favor. Get up out from in front of your computer, go find someone who owns a Wii (honestly, calling it the "Pee" makes you sound like a three year old), try a few games, find a few friends who own DSs (Calling it the S-NDS is pretty lame too, and I have no clue what you're trying to say in that line), play some multiplayer games (to be honest, I've been considering buying a DS for the multiplayer factor alone, but keeping the PSP for the single player games and multimedia), go back to your English class, learn to write, remove your single-minded if-your-not-with-us-then-you're-against-us mentality, and form an opinion.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a Microeconomics final to take.

thats the company that made daxter

This is why all consoles have a ton of games with good graphics and crappy gameplay. I'd rather have a so-so looking game that keeps me busy for hours and hours rather than awesome graphics that I finish the game in 2.

Everyone I've talked to, who owns a PSP, never realized they could hack it. Those whose PSPs I have hacked don't go much further than emulators and custom XMBs.
Poor PSP game sales are attributed to the general lack of OMGWTFBBQ kind of games. The only games worth investing money in are Lumines, Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Valkyrie Profile, Me and My Katamari, Loco Roco, Metal Gear Solid (Ac!d, depending, Portable Ops definitely) and Fireteam Bravo if you're into it. Work Time Fun, Guitaroo Man, Ace Combat, Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble, and PowerStone either suck in their PSP incarnations or don't get advertised. In fact, the only PSP-related advertisements were for the PSP when it first came out, and for Ratchet and Clank. Do you have any idea how many Wii ads I've seen? Hell, I saw more ads for Final Fantasy IX, X and XII (individually) than I've seen for the PSP and Ratchet and Clank (combined). Since the PSP has come out, Ken Kutaragi has completely botched advertising and public relations, and with his yes-man taking his place, that's not likely to change. THAT, my friend, is why PSP games don't see, not piracy.

Besides, I played Daxter. R@D did a good job with it.

oh rly? dreamcast failed miserably and also different and creative? does anyone actually know how many mario games there are? or has everyone just died trying?

I totally agree with what you said. The Dreamcast failed because of the PS1, and also about Mario. Holy crap. How many damn Mario games are there now? ENOUGH.
Let the freaking plumber brothers take a damn break.
BTW, the GOW graphics do not look bad at all. You people are blind. They're the exact same as the trailer. Either you think that they both look bad or both look the same, because they're no different.
Try to tell the difference from actual gameplay and cinematic -__-;.

Nintendo games used to appeal to me once upon a time, but I've grown up. The world has moved on but Nintendo hasn't. Until their consoles offer games that suit my taste, I am not going to give it unnecessary support so that Nintendo can continue milking people with their rehashed garbage. Their strength is their nostalgic fanbase and I have no problem if you like to play dozen more Mario games. I'll play God of War instead.
I may be biased towards Sony, because they make good consoles and games that I enjoy, but I'm not biased against Nintendo for the sake of it.
